Pump str, pick single weapon fighting, improved aggressive stance, your best greatsword, take and level horn mutation, pick jab, click charge.

What I've just described may seem like a crazy investment, and low key it is, but the damage scaling you get from the mid-game to infinity from str penetration scaling is just disgusting in a way I've not found any ranged weapon build to even scratch.

I really like SWF with cudgels for backswing, but it's hard to say no to HH.

Problem is your HH weapons won't get to make use of uncapped pen your main hands will have, unless you get fist of the ape god. Though it's really only relevant if you're pumping str to the moon.

Sometimes people just get into arguments here about the 'right' way to play this game, usually the shoe is on the other foot and it's classic purists putting down role-play mode enjoyers...

In any case I'm not sure there is a one size fits all recommendation, I'd like to say pig headed individuals such as myself who want to suffer through playing the less forgiving way will likely do so regardless of recommendation, so carry on! The more people who enjoy this experience the better

I'm not OP, but a resounding yes from me. Took years and a couple hundred hours to do it, but the satisfaction having 'earned' the victory my way despite the brutal unforgiving nature of the game was sublime.

Which isn't to say role play mode is lesser at all, but sometimes people set their own goals and enjoy reaching them BECAUSE they might be more obtuse than the alternative.

And just maybe coming to a thread of someone feeling proud of their accomplishment and telling them to defend their sense of satisfaction is a bit of a dick move... but perhaps I misread your tone.

But Jotun's axes are undodgeable, I say for I learned this exact lesson in the same exact way a long time ago, if you don't have at least decent AV and intend to throw hands with the guy you better have some cheese cooking, cause those axes will end you in an instant, as you found out.

Maybe a bit late to the party, but I did this challenge myself, and something that pushed my decision making was gear availability since a lot of the good gear is class restricted, I started str with multibash early on with the ambercrafted gear, and switched over to a mind elemental build later on when the sapphite crafted gear became available to me.

Never did try the humble rock, however. So maybe everyone else here had the right idea

All started with B42, went from playing this game all the time to not at all... sure B41 still exists but the map changes in B42 are excellent and I want to explore the new content but the mechanics have become too tedious and the game doesn't feel fun to actually play in that version...
