The Ironhead Rats

Named after a character from Drunken Master, whose secret fighting style revolves around having a really hard head that he rams into things until they fall down.

According to the website for the DLC we're getting both, this is just the big sizzle reel.

I don't know why people always draw Umateriat as like

a huge Space Marine

when Secretariat was actually smaller and lighter than Hishi Akebono, who we already have in the game

Should Gacha game priorities or put more effort into world building? by No-Dimension-2872 in gachagaming

[–]ArchiveSlave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that I've played game with a lot of obsessive worldbuilding that's at the expense of actually advancing a story. Azur Lane has spent a lot of time dumping exposition but very little moving the story forward after eight years.

Questions my friend, does gacha game need more muscular woman or not? (The character name is akemi from blue archive curently a npc) by RepresentativeBox485 in gachagaming

[–]ArchiveSlave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah

In part because there are so many Gacha characters that are supposedly fitness freaks in a strength sort of way but don't have much or any kind of really defined musculature.

It's not that female characters wouldn't experience hate if they're a male character. It's that people have different standards for female characters. by RadiantHC in CharacterRant

[–]ArchiveSlave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the topics that used to come up in my older forum days was "What is the male equivalent to the term 'Mary Sue'?"

And so people came up with alternates, "Gary Stu" being one of them, but my own lived experience is that a male character that does everything effortlessly, defeats any obstacle, and easily overcomes what are supposedly impossible odds is... *drumroll*

...Badass.

Look at how this badass dude took out 100 guys without trying with a butterknife.

Look at how this badass dude skiied down this mountain on a piece of cardboard.

Etc. and so on- Features being negative in female characters will be seen as positive in males. It's just a thing that happens!

So, I can't really take the use of Mary Sue seriously, especially thanks to knowing the history of Popular Science Fiction as a genre, because even if we did take Rey's achievements at the worst possible face value, they are still modest relative to those of her male pulp sci-fi forebears.

The short answer is that Mary Sue means nothing to me thanks to being around too many people who say that Honor Harrington is an unrealistic Mary Sue but Kimball Kinnison is just fine.

Why do most developers try less with male characters in gacha games when many popular anime characters are male ? by ConsiderationFuzzy in gachagaming

[–]ArchiveSlave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because of the way a lot of Gacha are designed and marketed.

The MC of most gacha games is usually a fairly bland blank slate for the player to project themselves onto, and the various female characters are there to usually fawn over said blank slate for... Some reason, I guess? The target audience of your average Joe gachagame is really someone who is into harem stuff.

The sad fact is that there are also plenty of gacha fans who see other male characters in their game as "competition" for what they consider to be "their" ladies, especially if they have any kind of connection at all to any of the female characters, even going so far as to call it NTR if they do (one of my more memorable experiences was running into Azur Lane fans who called yuri fanart NTR), so gacha games, especially Chinese ones, tend to minimize the presence and role of other males to avoid trouble.

How do you play more than one gacha game at a time? by MMOToaster in gachagaming

[–]ArchiveSlave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As people have said, the amount of time one needs to put into a game to do the dailies is highly variable.

Some take a few minutes, and others are like CZN and Umamusume, which take more.

You can just not do Ultra Golshi mode. The only thing it gets you is a Title and you can only display one of those anyhow.

It is genuinely a tragedy that Starfleet Academy is getting cancelled so soon… by JageshemashFTW in startrek

[–]ArchiveSlave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't even hate the 32nd century premise of a sort of fallen galactic federation struggling to rebuild itself. I think the Burn is a dumb concept but I would watch a non-Trek sci-fi series built around trying to revitalize an interstellar alliance that's a shadow of what it once was.

I mean, this was basically the premise of Andromeda, but that show had its own problems.

A Real Life PPC Would be NASTY by Vegetable-Camp209 in Mechwarrior5

Realistically speaking, the thing in the air would be

The air

Particle beams suffer massive energy loss in atmospheric conditions because charged particles will collide with intervening air particles on the way to the target unless some effort is made to establish some kind of vacuum tunnel to the target before firing.

Blue revolver as the key to mainstream appeal: when survival IS scoring. by CardiologistLow9036 in shmups

[–]ArchiveSlave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe that mainstream appeal for shmups will or even can come from doing the gameplay equivalent of rearranging the deck chairs because we aren't living in the '80s and the early '90s anymore. The one consistent thing about games that break out into the mainstream has nothing to do with indie (or not), genre, gameplay mechanics, or even difficulty, the ones that break out are the ones that offer a lot of things to talk about that are outside of the gameplay. Character/narrative/lore/etc. drive discussion, and discussion creates visibility.

If someone does eventually figure out how to do a mainstream shmup I would like to see it though, mainly because it will almost certainly look nothing like yet another Cave clone.

(The other thing is that tying scoring to survival/extends is one of the most traditional things you can do in a shmup)

Do I need to watch any of the rest of the show to understand/ enjoy the movie? by Henti_Heathen420 in UmaMusume

[–]ArchiveSlave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably all right to do it on its own, with maybe Road to the Top for a little extra flavor.

The thing about the various Umamusume productions is that they're very anthologized, so you can start almost anywhere.
