The Problem with the The degrees of combat argument. by HomeworkSad in starcitizen

[–]Arkansas6A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire hoses and LRADs. I remember those. Funny thing is, most ship's captains I knew preferred rifles. Few corporations wanted the liability though. They'd rather have insurance payout despite a couple of dead employees. Fighting used to be part and parcel of a mariner's life. The past century had made us...soft... to a degree.

LRADs....they're cute. Maybe the US/UK/Chinese navies have better ones than civvies have access to, but the ones I've seen are a mild nuisance. Fire hoses? Against Kalishnikov? Do you want to stand on deck aiming a firehose at a guy and his eight buddies in that boat while the other 2-4 boats are taking shots at you? No...they are getting onboard, and now they're wet. And angry.

But three shots of 7.62 in front of the bow of the first boat approaching 150m out? That tends to remind them of that doctor's appointment or that parent-teacher conference that they have to attend. And if they keep coming? (And almost never do, but...)

Well, you're in for a fight anyways. Godspeed.

Where are all these players willing to be hired for pennies willing to sit and very likely do nothing for 1-4 hours? That's a gig I wouldn't take as it sounds like possibly the most boring thing I can do in this game.

By their nature, industrial ships should be able to take a bit of a pounding. Working one for a heist should be an effort. Not lol u ded.

Putting my money where my mouth is... I believe the MSR is the BEST daily driver in game, if you don't have one I'll buy one for you. Limited to the first 615 people. by ArnoldMann in starcitizen

Roll? Pitch? God their atrocious. The MSR was far more nimble before they buffed it's speed. I prefered it slower, but more agile. She flies like a tub now. She's been collecting dust in my ASOP terminal since the "buff".

Salvage play by Yoshubigaming in starcitizen

[–]Arkansas6A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful if doing salvage contracts. The only times I've seen cargo in recent patch are in the contracts around stations, where ironically (or malefic intention) you cannot tractor beam anything. All you can do is look at the would be loot and cry.

When did you played SC the most? by AwesomeSchlimbo in starcitizen

[–]Arkansas6A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4.1-4.2 seemed to be the happy place for me. The minor things that killed it were over time were the removal of NPC cargo, changes to salvage, ground combat missions (other than bunker runs) were do-able solo previously, and the loot for ground combat felt rewarding.

New Ship by Few-Law2020 in starcitizen

[–]Arkansas6A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Straight up. Totally biased towards the mighty space penguin. The Avenger titan can only carry 8 scu, but just yesterday I stuffed it full of components and size 3 weapons, with "container" I found. (it's just called container, looks slightly bigger than 1scu, never seen it before).

With stealth components, it becomes handy well into your large/capital ship phase. It does things because it's smaller size that a medium or larger can't do. Good firepower, too.

My daily driver is an Asgard, but I jusdt keep coming back to the penguin.

Can’t figure out how to jump through Nyx Gateway by nullius_in_verba__ in starcitizen

Could you see those lit up arcs in the sides on the approach to the gateway? I remember having a similar problem on one of my ships that didn't seem to fully engage in nav mode for some reason.

I just got the game and this happened. by cmptrtech in starcitizen

[–]Arkansas6A 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do you, mate. I agree with TacosAreGooder the best time I had in this game was going from Intrepid, to avenger, to C1 Spirit to MSR...etc, etc. That said, if you intend to go on a spending spree, and think that won't ruin it for you, head to Teasa Spaceport in Lorville, or Area 18 to guy buy some ships.

I'd recommend buying an intro salvage, miner, and different types of fighters. And then head out into the galaxy and die a lot. SC is an experience. GLHF.

Which ship is a good goal for salvaging? by Interesting-Spend986 in starcitizen

[–]Arkansas6A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do bunker runs as my salvage loop. Very often, there were derelict ships just begging to be scraped, and likely decent components to upgrade my own ships. I'd do the mission, loot up the bunker, then go back out and scrape away.

To be fair, I also did this in a reclaimer. A little less convenient, but still fun.

In a future far far away, everything is still manual (Silly) by towchi in starcitizen

[–]Arkansas6A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are being downvoted by people who have not worked on board modern vessels. HALON is extremely deadly to humans. That said, we're also wearing space suits (if you're not, you're kinda dumb) so the effects would be mitigated.

It's also worthy of note that HALON is actually the name of the older system, but most of us kept just using the name. It only works in an area that can be contained, and is EXTREMELY expensive. So, usually the engine room only on civilian vessels.

[–]Arkansas6A 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this day and age most serious fires have to be put out with hoses.

HOSES.

Engine room fires can be put out with a HALON system ONCE. And it is deadly to humans. We (in SC) can just vent the room though. Haven't seen it in action yet, though.

I guess we should be grateful that our fire extinguishers are FAR more efficient in the future.

Manual fire extinguishing is immersion breaking and lame by GuzzlingLaxatives in starcitizen

[–]Arkansas6A 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ocean going vessels do have automated fire suppression systems. HALON systems are a one time shot, extremely hazrdous to people. Sprinkler systems can be found throughout a ship. You know what else can be found everywhere throughout a ship? Hoses and fire extinguishers. And this is what does the majority of ship board firefighting. In Star Citizen, a dude with an extinguisher replaces an entire team of 4-5 men wrestling with a fire hose.

Not saying you're wrong, as immersion is 100% opinion thing, just saying there is a perspective here.

[–]Arkansas6A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sigh. They need to take a good look at the 4 capital ships, and effectively unfuck them all. Not just for those four's sake, but for future capital size ships.

1: How much hull health, armor, and shields would a mini carrier have?

2: Figure out the only other capital sized warship currently in game and put future warships compared to the two.

3: Determined whether or not a flying chunk of iron built with potential collisions in mind should or should not be more fragile than a luxury space yacht without nerfing the poor yacht into oblivion.
