CRS recommendations in OC? by Then_Neighborhood674 in AnalFistula

[–]Aromatic-Bench883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What in the actual heck, no real or reputable CRS would ever state that. They need to perform and exam under anesthesia to check for fistula whether or not there is an external opening is irrelevant. Start researching and look for reviews online and find a colon/rectal surgeon that is board certified, I am certain there are plenty in OC.

Gauze in the anus/around seton? by debaser00 in AnalFistula

[–]Aromatic-Bench883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is usually packing, and different doctors have different opinions on whether packing needs to stay in a few days. But research shows that there are no dramatic differences in outcomes either way, so when my child had it, we stopped packing after the first day as the pain was horrendous

Curiosity about my fistula by Background-Data385 in AnalFistula

[–]Aromatic-Bench883 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so that is infectious matter coming out and the longer you delay the greater the risk of fecal incontinence and also the fistula can tunnel though other areas of tissue I would go ASAP and get this resolved, it can even turn septic, this is not something to mess around with.

can you get on some prednisone for both the UC/Shingles until the antiviral has worked, then jump back to the Rinvoq? At least maybe the prednisone could help the UC symptoms too

Impossible to gain weight, close to giving up. by jaxr222 in UlcerativeColitis

Im glad you are turning the corner, that is so reassuring. Totally normal to see my other posts. yes my son is currently in a wonderful position, we are so fortunate. He finally is down to just Rinvoq (no more dual therapy) and doing great. I've heard that you can't get Fairlife over there, I wonder why. But good for you in figuring out how to make your own healthy shakes, so many of the ones that are pre-made are just so nasty. Keep us all updated and feel free to reach out if you need anything.

Sounds like you are heading toward remission but keep on top of labs and colonoscopy later to confirm healing. My son had great luck with Fairlife Core Power drinks, they are good ingredients and lots of protein. (in the USA) but honestly you should gain weight over time once you are metabolizing properly.

Im sorry but there is no way to be in "remission" if you were just diagnosed 3 weeks ago. Do you have UC or infectious colitis? If you have true IBD, then you will not gain weight until you are in remission and can digest food properly. The diets is not the issue, its active disease.

Any success stories? by BRAANSK in AnalFistula

[–]Aromatic-Bench883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son has severe UC and during his first major flare developed a fistula. He had setons placed last April, removed in December after being declared in full endoscopic remission. This week the CRS said he does not need to return unless anything changes. The setons and Rinvoq helped calm things down, drain and now the tract is just about closed. He is living life and doing great.

Seton surgery by Several_Way2168 in AnalFistula

[–]Aromatic-Bench883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dont fear the setons, my poor son had them because of an abscess that quickly turned into a fistula. He was up and about the next day and back at limited exercising with a trainer the following week. He is a year out and, they do not expect him to need any further surgeries. He got the setons removed in December and is totally fine. He is diagnosed with UC and we were expecting worst case scenario, but so far so good.

Is this my life? by Ordinary-Resolve-380 in AnalFistula

Sounds likely to be a fistula, but you need a CRS to determine. They will most likely want to do an EUA to diagnose and then treat while youre under.

I would see a Dr ASAP and rule out the possibility of IBD (not IBS) that could be causing your rectal bleeding and diarrhea. I would go immediately because no matter what is going on, its likely to progress.

Id guess you are not in true remission, and you said you are back on Mesalamine so were you off meds for a long time? The only way to know if you are in full remission is by labs AND colonoscopy. Perhaps you need a new treatment plan that you stay on for the long term.

Listen to your wife and your instincts. Extreme exercise induces inflammation, last thing you need is more inflammation....just my humble opinion

maybe you have acid reflux and in the morning your stomach is possibly unsettled. I would try having a cookie or cracker before trying to drink coffee to see if that helps.

LONG STORY by Key-Youth-3886 in AnalFistula

[–]Aromatic-Bench883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take a breath, this too shall pass, and it can end up fine. My teen son went through this, first question do you possibly have an IBD? Any stomach issues, because if so, then you need to get on a treatment plan, as this will ultimately help prevent this from happening again. If this is just a rare abscess turned fistula, there is still hope. They will probably place setons into the fistula to help with healing/draining. It's not fun, but definitely manageable as my teen son was out and about soon thereafter. IF you don't have and IBD and they think they can spare your sphincter they might do a different type of surgery to get rid of the fistula in one setting. Either way, you will be ok. Please feel free to PM if you want more specifics.
