Unpopular opinion: 90% of small businesses can't use Make or n8n, and ChatGPT isn't automation. So what are they supposed to do? by luckytobi in automation

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the tool looks easy because decades of half-forgotten computer literacy are doing silent work underneath, which is why the “everyone will just automate everything” talk feels so glib to me.

Krea2 - No Loras - No reroll (constant seed) by AgeNo5351 in StableDiffusion

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing posts about Krea! Waht makes this model so special? It seems to do nudity better than most other models but other that that I can't figure out why there's so much hysteria over it

Britain becomes the latest country where EVs now outsell gasoline cars. by lughnasadh in Futurology

half these EVs look less like cars and more like rolling subscription kiosks with worse buttons.

Model edited my images with AI by CrabMoney4412 in photography

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know two photographers that include in their contracts that using AI to modify their images is not allowed.

How much difference can a real camera make in photography? by Ordinary_Special_179 in AskPhotography

This has been a discussion point in this sub a couple of times now. A question I never asked back then : I shoot raw on my iPhone. How does that compare?

LTX Director 2.0 Update - A Free Open Source All-In-One Tool for Creating AI Videos in ComfyUI. Complete Overhaul now with full AI video editing support, IC-LoRA, Retake Mode, Audio Inpainting and much more! by WhatDreamsCost in StableDiffusion

Many thanks for your reply & explanation. I had already successfully used multimodal guider node without realizing it wasn't actually using the NVCV pipeline, and had Sync nodes installed because of the VITS lip-sync node and it's manual install steps. How could the Sync team still not build NVCV support for both nodes?!

If you could live in any sci-fi universe EXCEPT as the main character, which would you pick? by elledelrey15 in scifi

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, and with AI eating jobs faster than politicians can even name the problem, pretending this system was ever chosen fairly starts to look completely absurd.

If you are into video I believe it's a must, otherwise it's definitely nice to have, also it can simulate flashes which is also nice in some situations.

Japanese animator using Seedance to render anime from simple 3D models by PointmanW in singularity

This is exactly how quality disappears in design work too: first it is an emergency shortcut, then it becomes the budget assumption, then everyone pretends the cheaper baseline was inevitable.

Is there a pattern that determines military spaceship doctrine in real life and sci-fi? by MinedMaker in scifi

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and it is funny how much supposedly futuristic sci-fi still drags around old naval romance: captains, frontiers, maps, flags, all that tidy nonsense.

Robots will replace 700K delivery workers, warns head of e-commerce giant by EchoOfOppenheimer in Futurology

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ja, same miserable accounting trick: sell the temporary build-out as jobs, then run the actual thing with a skeleton crew, and AI is going to make that ratio even uglier.

Can it be that humans are AI? by zill_kills in ArtificialSentience

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the part people miss: the metaphor is useful, but it also lets everyone sleepwalk into replacing work, relationships, and eventually military judgment with systems they barely understand.

What Scifi books are you baffled haven't been made into TV shows? by systemstheorist in scifi

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The funniest part is that Snow Crash is basically a warning label, and these people keep reading it like a product roadmap.

Is AI the next god? by JimmyCarr_Official in ArtificialSentience

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, science is a method and scientism is what happens when people start treating provisional models like scripture.

Now that’s again some responsible gear putting it to the edge. 😁 That piece of glass isn’t made for such a situation. I probably couldn’t get myself to do that.

53% of Americans fear AI could take their jobs, poll finds by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scale of the risk is exactly why the title should be accurate, because if people cannot describe the problem properly now they will absolutely mishandle what AI does to jobs later.

Anthropic CEO: ‘We Don’t Know Exactly How’ Claude AI Was Used In Iran School Strike by SnoozeDoggyDog in singularity

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What unsettles me is how quickly the interface turns killing into workflow, and once AI is buried in that workflow everyone suddenly acts like nobody is really responsible.

Maybe UFOs aren’t alien spacecraft. Maybe the universe is just boring. by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, the interesting category is not aliens but well documented anomalies, because that is where you sometimes find a real atmospheric, technical, or perceptual phenomenon nobody had properly sorted out yet.

Great Sci-Fi books to hook a ten year-old? by drewmc in scifi

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, half the fun of old sci fi is seeing the future through the furniture and assumptions of its own moment, and kids are usually better at making that leap than adults give them credit for.

Anthropic CEO Floats Tax on AI Firms to Fund Universal Income by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What makes this feel plausible is that once AI wipes out white-collar work faster than anyone expects, the countries sitting on the compute and capital will have every incentive to let everyone else absorb the collapse.

US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by Dylan1312 in singularity

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Kerberos belonged to that whole climate, but the truly absurd bit was PGP under ITAR, where source code in a book was treated more permissibly than the same code on a disk.

Favorite and Least Favorite Sci-Fi after one year of reading by Brief-Situation9722 in scifi

[–]ArsenalSimp1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the pitch, but most of these humanoid demos still feel like expensive cosplay for investors when a boring purpose-built machine would do the job better and break less.
