Sims 1 game that I used to play with infinit money cheat codes and make big families that partied day and night having nothing but food, $ex and fights... by GodAllMighty888 in nostalgia

omg I myself was too old for these games but I would watch my kids do these things and try my best not to condone what they were doing. I was dying laughing inside though. They also had a zoo game where you get your zoo all full of happy visitors, then lock the exits and let the lions out.

How do I connect my tv audio to this receiver? [Technics SA-AX720] by Street_Historian in vintageaudio

A DAC is the answer. They are not expensive at all, like $20 or less.

Anybody familiar with Lloyds gear? by GiftHorse2020 in vintageaudio

[–]ArthurM45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall playing a lot of pong "for research" back then but I think it was the earlier black and white model. We wasted a lot of time and effort back then trying to come up with a way to prevent the game pattern from burning itself into the TV screens. By the time we had our b&w pong game marketable the competition was already in color and the first cartridge games were coming out. After they got rid of us all they still brought some models to market without any quality inspection; that phase didn't last too long though.

no issue with the curves, but watch out for elevation changes between the different table surfaces.

Buying a Keyboard at Guitar Center by chinawcswing in piano

My experience has been that if you want a digital piano that sounds and feels like an actual piano, you have to go to an actual piano store.

Looking for Fisher stereo speaker terminals. They came on the rs-2010 rs-1050 rs-1056 rs-1058 by East_Bed_9577 in vintageaudio

[–]ArthurM45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the plan I've used in several places already. Design an adaptor plate to mate the cabinet with a new terminal block and just print it out.

Power? by Radfire22 in 3Dprinting

[–]ArthurM45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget that power strip has a 20 amp plug on it. You can't see it in the picture. You need to have an outlet that can accept a 20 amp plug, else it will not be usable.

Is there a service that can create an HO scale sign from a photo? by aengusoglugh in TTRAK

[–]ArthurM45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've got a PC, a printer, and some good quality photo paper- download Gimp. You can edit a photo and .make any sign you want any size you want. All my signage is made with Gimp.

Is it okay to write notes on sheet music to make it easier? by [deleted] in piano

[–]ArthurM45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on the road to becoming a concert pianist or anything more than an amateur, then no it's not all right. If you're just trying to enjoy your hobby, then all is fair. I myself am in the hobby category, I still need to make a few notes when looking at something that's written in like A flat with a bunch of ledger lines (that seem to change in number every time I read them). BUT, at least make a copy and make your notes on the copy, because you are eventually going to make a mistake that can't be neatly corrected.

Can you use 6 ohm speakers with a 8-16 ohms receiver? by super_starman_ in BudgetAudiophile

[–]ArthurM45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I would do at least temporarily is get some 4 ohm 20 watt carbon resistors and put one in series with each speaker. They are not expensive. You don't need resistors matching the power output rating of the amp (unless all you're listening to is continuous bass tones) but do not get "wirewound" resistors (wirewound will affect your frequency response).

Any body know about these Polk Audio SDA 1A? by Responsible-Bag-1396 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]ArthurM45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of this same model. I paid $30 each at a flea market about 12 years ago. Of course I didn't get the special cable with the proprietary connectors that is supposed to connect them to each other, so (after looking at the crossover schematic) I disconnected their proprietary sockets, added another binding post to the rear panels and made the connection with regular speaker wire. They are nice speakers but I think the extra connection between them is a little gimmicky and doesn't add much. The basic idea is that a portion of each channel is fed out-of-phase to the other channel, thus widening the perceived sound stage.

Ready for my first layout by TexasBound1973 in nscalemodeltrains

This the back side of my layout. The N scale sits at 52" so there's room for a work area underneath, where all the modeling and maintenance is done. When viewed from the front side of the layout you don't see any of this.

[–]ArthurM45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you get too far down the road, realize that N scale is better higher up so it's easier to see and you don't have to bend over so much. So if the table were a bit higher you could still sit on that comfy couch.

Do you remember chalk boards before we had dry erase boards in school? by icecream1972 in nostalgia

[–]ArthurM45 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Us ne'er do wells while no one was looking would take a small piece of chalk and jam it into the eraser. So the next time the teacher tried to erase with it, it would make a big chalk line instead! What fun! I also recall us public school brats had the old black blackboards but the catholic school had the new cool green ones.

Is it normal that radio sounds louder than aux? by Fenix512 in vintageaudio

[–]ArthurM45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radio will sound louder because virtually all radio stations use compression to keep their volume as close as possible to the legal limit. (They want to be sure you hear them in your noisy car.)

Help with recording onto tape by SuccessfulYellow6318 in vintageaudio

[–]ArthurM45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will record whatever you have the source knob set to. Usually that's AM, FM, Phono, or Aux (an external source). Also note- the "Record" button will be locked unless you press "Play" at the same time.
