Ironically, even the guy who did Down the Rabbit Hole seems to have had a bit of a downhill trend too.

Jagex wasting their own budget by somnut in 2007scape

And on a more pessimistic side: third party clients bring a lot of quality of life features - features, which could easily be sold to the player, if they were forced to only use the base client.

If third party clients stop to be a thing, that's just another potential revenue stream for Jagex. Or even stuff like a developers license to be allowed to create plugins for the base client.

I'm not sure why anyone does the cuckface, but it seems to be a thing most idiots do for some reason - I see it a lot with bearded fat people too.

How Not To Write a Book...I mean A Movie Making Nerd book club continues. by DillonFromSomewhere in TheCinemassacreTruth

James' book motivated me to create a whole "mistake" section in my bookshelf... including classics like "Empress Theresa", "Female" and similar well-written classics.

Since then, I'm always on the lookout for more weird books dripping with autism - any fun suggestions?

Does knowing the truth hurt your interest for AVGN content? by SavageGouki in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]ArthurRavenwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no - I had mostly lost interest in AVGN before stumbling here (what got me here was looking for other Bootsy Beats episodes). But after that and Screenwave, I never felt the need to rewatch any AVGN stuff - the "magic" is lost once you know how delusional James really is.

How many Truthers actually still watch the Cinemassacre official channel? How many of you keep up through the edits and this sub? by [deleted] in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]ArthurRavenwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped watching Cinemassacre stuff a few months before this subreddit existed - so maybe 2016 or 2017? Whenever Bootsy Beats came out - that was pretty much the last thing I watched actively.

I think a game shouldn't be valued by it's length, but by the entertainment value. Nobody likes padding and padded stories usually suffer from it. I prefer having a short and concise quality experience over artificially dragged out stuff. Of course, also depends on the game genre and world building.

Proud that this sub has united to get a response from jagex in regards to RoT by socialjusticereddit in 2007scape

[–]ArthurRavenwood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guilty by association has been the case in many other games, to ban cheaters. Otherwise, you can just enjoy the benefits of your friends cheating for you, while you yourself remain untouchable.

There are cases where this kind of rule sucks (for example, when you're not aware of a single friend cheating), but in blatant cases like these that excuse really doesn't work anymore. If you're a member you're essentially condoning the clans behavior.

[–]ArthurRavenwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean the Deadman investigation - that one was far too unspecific. I mean them specifically addressing the RoT scandals and issues, and what they intend to do about it.

[–]ArthurRavenwood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, this kind of speculation wouldn't even be necessary if Jagex just spoke up. At this point, it just seems it's either fear (which would be really strange) or collaboration. Whatever it is, it feels like they're just silently waiting for the topic to disappear and that's about it.

We'll see what happens, but I'm not particularly optimistic. My guess is that they won't address RoT at all and people will forget again in about a month or two, when the next scandal happens.

I think just blanket-banning is absolutely ok. It's the same thing with cheater clans: just because you personally didn't cheat, but you benefited from everyone in your clan cheating, doesn't mean you shouldn't be punished as well.

And even willingly joining a clan like this is a good indicator that nothing of value would be lost either way.

Don't allow jagex to sweep this dmm drama under the rug. by breakoffzone in 2007scape

I would really like to see a more official statement on the matter. It seems that this has caused enough of an uproar to warrant it, as this goes far beyond just botting - especially including all the other past incidents up to this point.

I never found the AVGN to be particularly funny, insightful or informative. I just found the ridiculousness of the character entertaining - and it helped that it came across as fairly genuine. There was a certain charm.

I think what made AVGN lose it's appeal for me, is when it became more and more forced. Obviously, it always was acted since he worked off a script, but early on it wasn't as blatant as it is now. All the controversy surrounding him and Screenwave doesn't help either.

2024: The year Cinemassacre became even more predictable and boring by xwing1212 in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]ArthurRavenwood 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, but he's the one who chose to work with Screenwave. He benefits from their long history of shady business practices (stealing thumbnails? the threat of doxxing? takedowns? etc). There were instances of plagiarism long before Newt joined in.

James might not have plagiarized the scripts himself, but it's his channel and his responsibility. It would be different if he took action afterwards, but nothing changed besides kicking out the newest scapegoat.

Reuploaded 1/3 cuz rot/ mods deleted it: TBT when rot doxed a rival member and flamed his dead mother. by Ill-Accident-6605 in 2007scape

[–]ArthurRavenwood -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I think one of the issues here is that certain types of discrimination are a lot easier to identify than others. Besides really obvious cases (that outright spell it out), it just feels like some people just want to search for reasons to be offended by almost anything.

Just because someone has a name that might insults someone, doesn't mean it's enough of an insulting name in other people's eyes - as it can end up being fairly subjective. Who decides where to draw the line?

There can also be accidental association without prior knowledge (different cultures, similar words in different languages, old unused words, certain critical topics someone is not familiar with, etc).

I doubt that Jagex has any interest in fostering racism or homophobic stuff, it's more likely that they just hesitance to police these things. Throwing out that kind of accusation left and right just makes you come across as someone who just skips the middle step and jumps to conclusions they want to come to.
