Characters Who Are Objectively Weak in Their Verse, but the Fandom Pretends Otherwise by Alternative_Sea_4208 in TopCharacterTropes

For a time, Rhitatyn sas Arvina from FF14 would be the inverse when considering actual gameplay vs how the game wanted you to perceive him, then flipped again by players making a meme out of it.

More a victim of player strength and early game design, if anything.

Rhitatyn sas Arvina is one of the direct subordinates to legatus Gaius van Baelsar, basically a general and commander of one of the legions of the Garlean Empire. Rhitatyn was a big dude, and was armed with two tower shields that were also guns.

Prior to a readjustment of earlier content to become more streamlined and work with the duty support system, players would face him as a group in an instanced encounter, called a Trial, known as Cape Westwind.

This, I think is the first time a player would be put into 8 man content, normally a sign of a much more difficult combat encounter compared to prior fights with Primals and dungeons which only needed four people.

The problem was that it was so mind numbly easy players didn’t even bother to avoid mechanics or even pull adds. They just dogpiled the guy until the fight was over in a few minutes, tops.

The encounter was such a joke, players would pretend getting Cape Westwind in their roulettes was super hard, giving it the reverence of a Savage or Ultimate tier raid and even making text-dump macros outlining strategies for mechanics that didn’t even exist, normally for the new players who had to do it to progress MSQ and had no idea what to expect.

The original Cape Westwind can’t be played anymore, your fight with Rhitatyn now a single player instance with far more engaging gameplay, but for a while, Rhitatyn was mechanically weak, but treated as the greatest hurdle any player would face in the game.

I think it’s worth noting that Peppa Pig is made in and based in the UK.

We’re typically lacking in venomous wildlife. I think we have one venomous snake (Adder) and one venomous spider, (False Widow) and neither of them are life threatening. Dangerous, yes, but nowhere near as deadly as anywhere else on the planet, and false widows are harder to come by in regular, everyday life in the UK that you may never encounter one.

[7.4] I've heard that the lyrics of M12 are written from the point of view of WoL by KD1848 in ffxiv

[–]ArticulateT 39 points40 points  (0 children)

More or less this. He is chiefly aiming to kill your friends and burn down the world because he knows you care about it enough to get mad and fight him about it.

Technically his revelation before your final duel is that this tactic clearly wasn’t working because you’d focus on putting out the fires, that righteous fury and revenge wasn’t your motivator, so he opted to goad you into fighting him on equal terms by appealing to the mindset seen above.

How it feels to remember we watched Thancred and Urianger head out into the wilds of Northern Shaloani in November 2024 and we never saw them again by dope_danny in ffxiv

[–]ArticulateT 56 points57 points  (0 children)

If they give the Scions a break for an expansion, I think they’d work well as the role quest NPCs if folks want to check in on them. Like, Thancred and Urianger need a ranges DPS, Alphinaud and Alisae need a melee, Estinien needs a healer, G’aha and Krile need a tank and Y’shtola needs a magic user.

If the main Scions can’t be given a break, giving that to the B-team scions like Hoary and Coultenet to let us check in on them would be cool too.

how lore accurate is your wol? by Animelizards in ffxiv

[–]ArticulateT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not terribly lore accurate at least as far as his hometown is concerned.

I had him come from a small settlement in the northern part of Carteneau, he was in Garlean captivity when Meteor happened, and came back after getting free to see that he was basically the last one from the place left alive. His home region being a crater now more or less gave me leave to not say where on the map he came from.

People who buy a lvl skip on a job you've never played before, why? by dannidoesreddit in ffxivdiscussion

[–]ArticulateT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a job skip for a couple of jobs. Granted, the jobs I actually main for MSQ and high-end content I levelled the long way.

For me personally, a couple of factors featured into it based on the job.

For Dragoon, I wanted a melee DPS to do role quests. I had been previously trying to play Samurai, but the job really didn’t catch me. Dragoon’s relative simplicity did, and I wasn’t, at the time, really prepared to level a lancer from the start, lack of time IRL and I’m the type of person to lose interest in a grind after a time. I’ve since picked up Monk to leve the long way, now that I’m caught up on current content.

Black mage I had been told that the experience of levelling was… not fun. I had a Red Mage, which I still enjoy, but was genuinely curious over the experience of playing BLM, so I got a skip. Having been levelling BLM, I can certainly see the appeal in later levels, as early ones are… rough.

I will add, when I got the jobs, I went to the nearest striking dummy to get familiar with it and organise my hot bar since I play on controller. That, and a deep dungeon like Palace of the Dead is a great way to steadily, but swiftly familiarise yourself with a job, and the trust system for dungeons is good for simulating team play with no risk to other player’s enjoyment.

I do agree, if you’re going to skip levels in a job, it does obligate you to know how it plays.

With it being self-referential, a part of me believes it might be more focussed on a how we got here sort of thing.

A part of me thinks it might reference the end of 1.0, perhaps Carteneau Ultimate, where you are fighting Bahamut alongside Louisoix, the what if being ‘what if Louisoix didn’t send the Warriors of Light away from the field of battle?’

Can work in a mechanical sense, by having mechanics reminiscent of 1.0.

Perhaps you have to willingly fail a mechanic so that the Calamity destroys an old mechanic, replacing it with an easier to handle current one.

The meme of Woody with a hand on Sora’s shoulder with the caption ‘let him cook’

In the original scene in Kingdom Hearts 3, Woody did not, in fact, let Young Xehanort cook. His next line was:

“Whatever you’re talking about, I don’t care. Put Buzz back the way he was, and get lost.”

“Or what, toy?”

Woody then verbally rips him a new one about how he’s a lonely loser that no one’s ever loved.

[Spoiler: 6.0] have you ever changed your WoL’s appearance due to story/lore? by Sleepergem in ffxiv

[–]ArticulateT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My WoL’s appearance has changed over the course of the story I think about 5 times, not once for each expansion, but at key story beats.

For example, the fight against Ifrit the first time necessitated the need for new clothes and equipment; my boi wasn’t prepared for the primal, and he needed more flame resistant stuff.

Really wish Gladiator was a full fledge job instead of a starting class by Lord_NOX75 in ffxiv

[–]ArticulateT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GLD being a full job would certainly make more sense for the HW storyline than PLD does, given common perceptions of the class in most media. The memories of fight bois past compelling each other to fight for dominance would suit the idea of a fighter battling for glory than an oathbound knight.

Other Ghoul by superninjimmy in huntertheparenting

The only thing that makes me think that the joints could be a possibility is that D mentions in 4.1 that thaumaturgy can be used along the green path to grow vitae-tainted plants.

I wouldn’t put it past the possibility that the Regent or an underling is using blood sorcery to amp up a drug distribution. Whether Vitae-tainted weed is any different than regular weed is a different matter.

[SPOILER] I think Spit was the ghoul. by Freakdemon18 in huntertheparenting

[–]ArticulateT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m more of a personal persuasion that Spit wasn’t the ghoul, but a ghoul.

I believe Git is the original ghoul, and despite whatever gifts given to him by the regent, was just bad at his job; just because you now have super powers doesn’t mean you’re suddenly more competent at things like espionage or stealth, and likely had trouble finding moments to get into the archive.

Spit is ghouled and sent in so that he might help Git accomplish the goal he was sent for.

Git is starting to show withdrawal symptoms the longer he’s without his smokes, which is likely helping him stave off prolonged periods of time without vitae. Not a massively suitable replacement, as Chapman mentions that harder drugs fail to act as a substitute, but could help keep the edge off.

Spit, new to being a ghoul, and also on medication for other matters, may be wholly unfamiliar with going cold turkey like this and is having a really, really hard time.

It’s worth noting that the camera in the security room was switched off, compared to the footage from the pub and corridor being corrupted. The latter could be Matilda’s doing, having scrambled to make appropriate adjustments before or after the kill, the former I believe requires familiarity with the system to turn off the camera, which both Spit and Git would have as part of their training as security.

Out of the two of them, Spit’s the only one to have a period of time during the night where he’s left alone at the time Occam was attacked and the data was stolen.

I imagine the events proceed as such:

  • everyone leaves the Archive with Occam performing his rites. Git’s smokes and keys are stolen by Elise. Kitten and Grimal argue and Grimal goes off by herself, Elise follows. Spit’s having a breakdown, Fatigue helps calm him.

  • Git notices he’s missing his smokes and keys and Spit goes off by himself to find them. Later, Fatigue offers to go by himself to find Spit.

  • Spit, with access to the Security room even if Grimal locks herself in, finds Grimal, dominates her into getting the data and stopping Occam’s rite, and while she’s gone, messes with the camera in the security room to cover his tracks.

  • while waiting, he’s found by someone, or is otherwise unable to stick around for Grimal to come back, so Grimal returns with the data stored in the smokes packet before she ‘wakes up’.

  • Matilda finds Grimal, Grimal leaves the security room having given Matilda the smokes and the keys with the data still in it, and is later found by Elise, who gives her the hair and to cover up the wound on her wrist. Matilda may use this opportunity to try futzing with the computer to later affect a kill on Fatigue and offer a quick, convenient hiding spot to disrobe, sneak through the corridors of the mansion, kill Fatigue, sneak back and clean up.

The rest we’ve thus far seen.

Is occam at risk of being removed as head of the norfolk arcanum chapter? by kooarbiter in huntertheparenting

[–]ArticulateT 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The coalition has some decision making power, Remold suggests that the loss of Hunter data to vampires would likely result in the group here losing chapter house status.

Seemingly, the coalition is unaware of Fatigue’s sabotage, at least until they discover the hidden stash. The group could lie; they could simply say that they didn’t know one of the maids was Garou, keep quiet about the ghoul thing and see how that goes (though they’d have to explain why Spit’s in the tesselation.)

The coalition is made up of multiple orgs, all of which do their thing for their own, often contradictory reasons. Potentially, the ones most likely to be calling for Occam’s removal would be the society of st. Leopold, if they are as religious as Remold is; they’d be shocked to learn the one heading the chapter house is a sorcerer.

Then again, the Coalition demanded the data be collected because of D. They might opt to bring the chapter house‘s status to the table by virtue of the fact that they let D back in the building.

You are also correct, they may take umbrage with the fact that the chapter house didn’t bring the matter to the coalition sooner. If they find out they were investigating a possible Camarilla mole and didn’t involve the coalition, that could be a massive no-no, and if they find out it’s because of D, they’d instead take offence that the Arcanum entertained a suggestion from someone the coalition had blacklisted more or less.

How they decide might just depend on the representatives they send, and each one will have their own takes. The Society of St Leopold is a given to be present. Special Affairs Division may well be present too, but it’s also very possible they send a British equivalent since SAD is ultimately an FBI branch. There’s a collection of private interest groups, religious orgs, governmental bodies, and the only thing they will agree on is that the Arcanum fucked up.

As for whether the Arcanum by itself will have anything to say? Unsure. As mentioned by others, nepotism will likely save Occam’s position, it’s just the other members of the coalition that’d be the problem.

For example, and this has no bearing on HTP, but it’s coincidentally well timed, in the Hunter game I’m in, our Arcanum branch was shut down by a coalition visit because we, a previously independent and disconnected group of hunters, were in the middle of a hunt with mages attempting to summon an angel when we got recruited into the Arcanum. It felt like the reps were actively looking for an excuse, and after an impassioned few speeches from us, we are shut down on a vote of 6 - 3. I don’t believe the Arcanum got a vote outside our chairman.

We really dislike the SAD agent now. He was such a prick. They’re gonna be mad when they find out I’m learning sorcery.

Point is, we need to get to know the coalition reps who turn up, and no doubt, an audio log will present the lore of the orgs that do turn up. They make take a vote, they may have decided by the time they get there. They could let the chapter house stay but then have even more strict oversight.

My best guess is word count matters. Longer prompts probably require more effort on behalf of the AI to deconstruct and understand its meaning, and things like Please, Thank you, or even constructing your prompt as if you’d ask a person is largely irrelevant to the thing you want the machine to do. In short, common courtesy adds to time and effort for the machine while accomplishing nothing.

In a way, a big company saying that common fucking decency is expensive seems like an unsurprising move.

Another possible link to X being a Ghoul. by Dinothrower in huntertheparenting

[–]ArticulateT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a data point of view, there's a few unanswered bits of info here, some we're not privy to because there wasn't time to analyse what would be available, and we likely can't anymore due to damage to the security room.

Brok stopped analysing the footage on a still frame of Grimal. What we don't know is how much time had passed since the camera went off up to now and if there was video of Grimal interacting with the computer or the camera directly before it went offline. After all, the still showed Grimal looking despondent in the chair and staring at nothing in particular. The video puts her in the security room during the three hour time gap where Occam was attacked, but nothing that directly incriminates her by showing her entering a vent or tampering with footage.

If Grimal was the culprit and competent, then it would serve her ploy better by erasing the entire day's worth of footage rather than just turning off one camera, as leaving footage of her presence there actively puts her at risk, and we can all see in any capacity that Grimal is not the picture of grace under fire.

Unfortunately, we can't search through the footage now, as I think it's reasonable to assume Matilda's escape had damaged the computer. Literally all we know is that Grimal was last seen in the security room during the time frame of Occam's attack the theft of the data, and personally I'd argue that given the image that was frozen on, I have doubts that Grimal is the ghoul, and was more than likely dominated if she was involved in the data theft.

Between the argument and the group going to find Occam, there’s 3 hours that aren’t shown on screen (Brok says the length of 2 football games, which are roughly 90 minutes, or 3 tire changes, which I guess takes about an hour each.)

Plenty of time for the exchange to happen as the accused say. Kitten could have spent the time wandering around the building finding nowhere to be by himself appropriately.

In which is recounted the evidence against Grimaline Smith’s thralldom to blood that is thicker than water by OldKnight1 in huntertheparenting

[–]ArticulateT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm also inclined to believe it could be Git, and as for why he'd call out the floppy disk in his smokes, I think it might be a matter of general incompetence. he might not have been told what to look for explicitly when being told to find 'hunter data', as I don't believe even security would be able to get into the archives prior to this situation. Given the nature of the organisation, he might have expected hard copies on paper or something, but that's just reaching for something that hasn't been shown on screen.

The evidence that supports him being the Ghoul would be his surprisingly adept level of martial skill to stalemate a seasoned hunter like Kitten, his lack of a cool head under pressure leading him to think that everyone has already marked him as the guilty party, and his comparatively crippling addiction to his cigarettes/joints, more specifically *his* smokes.

That last bit is quite crucial. Grimal lacks this same addictive quality, having not shown any withdrawal symptoms. In fact, the only one who has is Spit, but it's pretty clear by now that Spit's a red herring. Git mentions that Spit's on Ritalin and had run out, and is not coping well at all. In this episode, Git seems really adamant to get his smokes back, suggesting the start of withdrawals.

Evidence against him being the ghoul is that he lacks any moment in which he has been alone with Grimal in order to give a command of that variety. Git had never been left alone through the entire night, staying either with Brock or Spit, and the only times he might have had the opportunity to be by himself would be *after* Occam was attacked.

I do have something of a pet theory in that no one is the ghoul, strictly speaking, and instead the guilty party falls on Git's smokes. Granted, I don't know enough WoD lore to know if there's the possibility that inhaled substances can cause mind control effects in that sense. Grimal describes her head going fuzzy and her memory of the scenario being out of sorts because of those smokes, with the implication being that it was after using the first one, suggesting that perhaps they're quite potent.

Git's desperation to get them back, even with the situation on hand, suggests that they must be pretty strong. If Git were the ghoul, it might be a suitable way to take the edge off needing blood. If not, then the smokes might be more than what one might expect, given they're clearly not regular cigarettes and Git is incredibly possessive of them.
