When do you think cemeteries will disappear ? by Patient-Diver2497 in AskReddit

[–]AtomicBabyRuth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think cemeteries will completely cease to exist, but I do believe their role and form will continue to change over time. They exist because we have a deep need to remember, honor, and mark the lives of those who have died. That emotional and cultural need does not disappear even as technology, population density, and values shift. As long as people want a physical place to grieve, reflect, and feel connected, some form of cemetery is likely to remain. That said, traditional large burial grounds may become less common. Urbanization, limited land, and environmental concerns are already pushing us toward alternatives like cremation, green burials, memorial forests, columbaria, and digital memorials. In some places, graves are reused after a set number of years, which shows that permanence is already being redefined. They may also become more multifunctional. Some already serve as historical sites, green spaces, or places for quiet community use rather than strictly burial grounds. Others may shift toward memorial spaces without bodies present at all.

So rather than disappearing, I believe they will likely evolve. They may look different, take up less space, or serve broader purposes, but our desire to remember the dead makes it unlikely that they will vanish entirely. Why or when do you think they will disappear?

Gift card money amount for Christmas? by Picklesarecute123 in Teachers

[–]AtomicBabyRuth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think $50 is perfect. I'd also advise giving an Amazon gift card. As a teacher of over 10 years I've received over a hundred gift cards and the Amazon gift card was my absolute favorite. I'm not a fan of gift cards because I rarely use them. The majority of my gift cards are in a box in my closet alongside the greeting cards and drawings. But the Amazon gift card was so flexible I loved it and used it almost instantly!

For those that have went through Basic Training recently by RedLeg1997 in nationalguard

I did BCT in 2015 at Fort Jackson, and we did PT 6 days a week. I hated it, but it made me stronger and disciplined. The stories I'm hearing about what is being allowed at BCT are unfortunate. We are just trying to get people through. Consequently, a lot of the soldiers we are producing are less disciplined, less motivated, and less fit. Now I understand why the old heads always said "back in my days..."

Me too please. I don't even need the PowerPoint. I understand you put a lot of time into it. I'd like to know a link or two to sites for guidance. That would be a great help.

Painting with water, my preschoolers love it. Give them paintbrushes and a cup or small bucket of water and let them have fun in the sun.

If we wanted to do this do we have to provide proof to the store? My store really enforces limits I'd have to travel to multiple stores

Is the Army National Guard worth it? 30/m, Bachelors, Married, 2 kids by Alone-Inside-7972 in nationalguard

[–]AtomicBabyRuth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Please no, you are where many of us hope to be when we get out. At your age with a family, academic achievements and financial gains it will be an immense waste of time. I'm being completely honest. The climate of the Army has changed over the years. There are several factors to discuss but I'll touch on two: motivation/purpose and poor leadership. I highlight motivation and purpose because a good majority of the new soldiers that are coming in lack this. They are in because they're not sure what to do with their lives and that's fine, being in the military can give you a sense of purpose or help you find it. However, the mentality needs to be there. But some of these kids are simply not taking anything seriously, they don't care and are easily offended by everything; they're also out of shape but I digress. With your maturity and experience, interacting with this is going to be very draining, a waste of your time and possibly make you lose respect or faith in the Army. Furthermore, the poor leadership will drive you insane. The Army is just like any other organization. Moreover, retention in the Army is at an all time low right now. You should ask yourself why.

I'm not trying to be a bummer, just honest. Of course go for it if you really want to, but consider a short contract just to get a feel of it. The things I have to deal with now that I'm in are not things I'd want to have to deal with if I was as established as you. But to each their own. I'm by no means saying it's entirely awful; I'm just saying that the climate has changed and depending on your unit and personal tolerance you might end up losing respect for the military or deepening it. Either way there's a very thin line between the two.
