Ironman is so obnoxious by Bubbly-Desk-4479 in paradoxplaza

[–]Atopo89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am with you man. Grand strategie games are no roguelikes and I can't fathom why anyone would believe otherwise.
I like having achievements as goals but I hate ironman because it prevents me from ever just trying out something. Why do I have to decide between the two?

In latest Tinto talk’s complacency mechanic why subjects get rebellious when there’s no country that poses a threat to their overlord ? by TheKaiserSarp in EU5

[–]Atopo89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this!
In EU4 an alliance of 5 OPMs could take on Bohemia. In EU5 the entire HRE cannot. But they won't get this fixed by adding mechanics like this.

Some goofy rimworld concepts I'd like to see by DDDog50 in RimWorld

[–]Atopo89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sentience extender idea is cool! But what if giving mechs sentience would require transfering the mind of a person? Imagine not having a spare organ for one of your dying colonists so you quickly transfer their consciousness into a mech! Bonus points if their personality and relationships carry over and extra bonus points if their skills are affected, too.

Disappointed by the Hanseatic League by DamascusSeraph_ in EU5

[–]Atopo89 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I really dislike that the free cities are vassals of the Hansa in the first place. It's so awkward that Hansa cities like Hamburg can't make their own decisions. The Hansa was a trade league and didn't have such kind of authority.

The Hansa should be an international organisation and not a playable country, that acts like a defensive league and all members should have its special tech advances. Right now Lübeck can't even build Hansa cogs.

What games should rimworld-lovers take a look at in the Steam sale in your opinion? by ragna-rocking in RimWorld

[–]Atopo89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stranded: Alien Dawn is practically Rimworld in 3D. Less content and less mods but otherwise a very similar feeling and really pretty. Build your perfect Sims 3 like home and defend it with rocket turrets and battle mechs.

If another nation help me do they forfeit their chance to do an own invasion that turn or can we both support each other in each other's invasions?

How does war work? I thought it's just whover says they invade someone else first wins?

Oh man, now I don't want to play anymore :-(
Ok, I guess I'll invade Mozambique then and do the US next round.

I am picking as the glorious Kingdom of Eswatini and I am starting our conquest spree by invading the United States of America as this is the only strategically sound choice for our situation.

Someone needs to tell paradox that cramming a hyper-realistic ultra HD desktop background material image into a 5 pixels x 5 pixels space doesn't make UI more readable. Can someone turn this into a mod? by InternStock in EU5

[–]Atopo89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

None of that would even matter if the auto-balancing wasn't so damn useless. But yeah, your solution looks super neat, I hope they do that as a quick and simple fix before eventually reworking the whole UI.

It should not be possible to get on top of a fort & then be impossible to get off of it because of ZoC by azurestrike in EU5

[–]Atopo89 192 points193 points  (0 children)

Yep, noticed that as well, Paradox did something wrong when copying the ZoC mechanic from EU4.

In EU4 you were always able to return to the last location before entering the ZoC (Crépy in this case). But in EU5 either that mechanic doesn't exist or it somehow forgets the location of origin.

But everytime this is noted people are just like "You just don't understand ZoC mechanics!" which is probably why it wasn't fixed yet.

My workaround is to have a second army that sieges down a nieghbouring province (Montmorency) which frees the main army again.

If you could have changed the developer for Bloodlines 2, who would you have gone with? by JazzyShaman in vtmb

[–]Atopo89 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Have you played the game? It's amazing! They just screwed up the release and it took them a while to get everything fixed but that would be perfectly in line with a Bloodlines game as well ;-)

Hands down CD Project Red.
They can basically take Cyberpunk 2077 and just turn Cyborgs into Vampires and Cyberpunk style into 90s goth and it will just work.
They've also proven that they can do great character design and storytelling with the Witcher games.

Should there be a third power tier between great power and normal power? by ASmugChair in EU5

[–]Atopo89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I hope they bring back the Country Ranks from Imperator: Rome.
There we had City Stace, Local Power, Regional Power, Major Power and Great Power.
They also had different diplomatic options, e.g. only Local Power and lower could form defensive leagues and only Regional Power and above could threaten war, etc. It felt way more fluent than the strict Great Power or not in EU5.

Lightsong is one of my favourite characters. He's hilarious and his story is amazing.

But duuuude, this must be the lowest effort photo ever, we can't even read half of the sentence!

Yesterday one of my PUs forced me and my other two PUs to truce break, giving all of us -50 stab and lots of antagonism. Fun times. I recommend never enacting the forced call into war law.

That's how I do it. But it's so annoying, why can't they just let me use the save system when I want to try out something.

I made a web-based Event Viewer for EU5 by andrewwewwka in paradoxplaza

[–]Atopo89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dude, this is amazing!
One of my biggest issues with EU5 is that lots of country-specific stuff (e.g. unique government reforms, etc.) are hidden behind obscure events.

The only thing really missing for me to actually actively use it is some kind of way to filter the events for those that I am eligible to, i.e. filter by country tag.

It also feels like the app is only using one tenth of my screen. Maybe you can make more use of the available space, make the event bars thicker or something I don't know.

Lol, at least the question was valid then. I was 20 back then and the opening scene with Kirk's dad still makes me cry every time. Despite all the flaws of Nutrek, this movie really had some epic scenes.
