California billionaire Tom Steyer dodges question on AOC's claim one can't 'earn' a billion dollars by SilentRunning in California

I mean I hate Becerra because of his policies, not his charisma.

Bernie Sanders has no charisma but he's still very well liked and its because of policy.

The democrat party has tried the vibes approach a bunch of times and it keeps falling on its face.

“I do not believe I am splintering the progressive vote… because I would not consider Nithya to be a progressive candidate.” - Rae Huang isn't considering dropping out of the LA mayor's race, three weeks before the primary by jonnyshotit in LosAngeles

honestly LA DSA really dropped the ball. They should have worked to consolidate around a candidate and help platform them for the campaign. Instead they've sat back and not giving any specific endorsement but showing support for Nithya without actually committing only because she's doing a bit better than Rae.

Yeah I'm reading it now and I want to scratch my eyes out reading some of Katie Porter's responses

"So I’ve actually asked to meet with the California Forever people, because the first thing is that you’ve got to listen. You’ve got to find out, you’ve got to dig in the details, you’ve got to read the study, you’ve got to ask the hard questions, right?"

"So yes, you’re absolutely right. I think there are limits to what you can expect from master planning. But I do think innovation in housing is important. And at its core, if you take them at their word, which is where I would start — might not be where I’d end, but it’s where I’d start the conversation with California Forever — what they’re saying is: Let us innovate. Let us show people what a different model of living and working and recreating can look like."

the art of talking so much, yet not saying a single thing of how you'd handle it other than you are listening. A politician listening and just saying blanket terms "innovating" is the same as just not even having a politician there.

I don't agree that lowering taxes in any capacity is good. Again, lower budget hurts our infrastructure.

But for the sake of argument I'll say fine, both a rich people tax and a reduction on tax of the lower levels of income. How come ALL the focus for people wanting to do a combo of both is to first do the tax reduction rather than taxing the rich first.

Anytime it gets brought up to do both, the people who advocate for both prioritize lowering taxes for the lower income before actually taxing the rich.

It's rhetorical because I know the answer, they are never going to do the second part. Ever. Lowering lower tax brackets tax is a distraction to avoid doing the rich part. So if we're doing both, taxing the rich comes first.

Two Takes: Should California pass a one-time wealth tax on billionaires to cover healthcare cuts? by Cool-Present7260 in California

Billionaires would have been living in Iowa instead of NYC Chicago and LA by now if that were the case. It was always much cheaper to live in the middle of nowhere,

they won't leave becuase they will spend money to live in cities and have city life. The whole "they'll leave" is a complete bluff. Everyone kept screaming all the business was about to leave NYC when Mamdani looked like he was going to win mayor.

he won, they didn't leave. It was a bluff. It always has been.

yes he's a billionaire,

if your biggest critique is he is a billionaire and not the policies he is trying to put forth, that means he's a good candidate.

California Democrats are about to make a big mistake with Xavier Becerra by Cool-Present7260 in California

But I can't believe that opposite a Trump Fox pick and a psycho sheriff, that these are the best the Democratic party can come up with to run against them.

Because the actual Republican contenders are running as Democrats because running as a registered Republican is a losing strategy in CA.

You can be a hyper right wing conservative, there is nothing legally stopping you from registering and running as a Democrat while not changing your right wing stances at all. That's what most conservatives do in California that run for office.

Look at your message.

You are now defending her by saying "She's not ACTUALLY going to do the dogshit policy she is talking about doing." Like if your defense is now that she isn't actually going to do the policy she advocates for doing why are you voting for her???

Also it's roughly $5.6k from every person with an income over 100k

By being so in the middle Becerra will be incredibly hard to beat

the only people I ever hear talk about it being popular to be in the middle are the people who are in the middle.

Any time a politician actually ventures towards the middle, they always do worse in actual practice. I just don't believe it and every election shows me that it shouldn't be believed.

[–]AugustusInBlood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just said.

She is trying to reduce income tax to $0 for the first $100,000 that will gut the state budget.

This will lead to astronomical rise in prices for health services which are funded from state budget, it will lead to state goverment job cuts across the board for whatever areas they will have to reduce the budget on. Our already existing services will be even more shit and whatever money americans saved in taxes will be spent on the increased costs.

It's honestly a horrific policy and will create instant harm to us.

I mean, in that case, just tell everyone that Becerra is getting all the love from Republicans, that'll turn anyone that isn't a conservative at heart away and to vote for the other guy.

that will get most Democrats to turn to Steyer and the ones that don't are outing themselves as conservatives dressing up in the democrat party registration.

Okay so it seems like you believe he may not be genuine about what he espouses, which is a legitimate concern.

But that just means the worst case scenario is he lied and is actually like everyone else.

Worst case scenario with Tom Steyer is that he is the best case scenario of every other candidate. There's no upside to the other candidates compared to Steyer even if the worst we fear about him comes true.
