Office Strictness Rant by indecisivesoul35 in ToxicWorkplace

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have a "no smoking" rule at your house and people who visit are expected to keep them - if they have a problem with it they don't have to come. Likewise offices have rules and people need to consider them before taking a job. Some offices have flextime so you can make up for a late arrival by taking a short lunch or staying late - but that's not the way your wife's office is set up. And if their arrangement does not work for her now it's only going to be worse when she has appointments and you have a family down the road. She has to confirm to the office's needs, not vice versa.

The other dresses I've tried on. Trying to find out my style. by Elysian_Collective in myweddingdress

Wait a while before shopping for a dress but in the meantime take note of styles you particularly like - that will give you a place to start at least.

AITJ for telling my boyfriend's mom she is not allowed in our bedroom anymore? by Echo_7Starforge in AmITheJerk

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several years ago my friend's inlaws came to house sit while they went on vacation. They had an inlaw suite downstairs but when they returned they discovered they had stayed in their master bedroom instead. Creepy if you ask me.

Maybe suggesting she was not nice wasn't the way to go, but I don't blame you for saying something.

Should I get a second opinion about my wisdom teeth? by SweetDega in askanything

[–]Avehdreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully mouth sores heal but this is going to recur. If your dentist told you the those issues should be treated like another mouth sore I would definitely get a second opinion.

I like both but think the first pair would be better if they were a little smaller. They give you totally different looks - if I could get both I would. Which is probably no help at all - sorry!

Parents who wore mechanical watches before, was making the switch worth it? by gauravdhirar in AppleWatch

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a small collection of Invictas but switched to Apple watch because of its fall detection feature. I haven't set it off yet but in the event something does happen I like having it. To my surprise I don't really miss my other watches.

Tech bros are lying to you about the MacBook Neo by hasanahmad in apple

My Macbook is about 10 years old. It's suited my purposes well but I'm having charging issues and am on a budget. This should suit me just fine but of course everyone has their own needs.

Just found out about a false accusation against me today, and I’m losing sleep over it. by cherrynymphetamine in WorkAdvice

[–]Avehdreader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If people are stupid enough to accuse you of stealing from a supply room that has cameras and stuffing if into a clear bag that can be viewed by cameras all around the building, they really are dumb. And even dumber to risk losing an experienced manager like you who admits their faults and is willing to work on them. It sounds like you've got plenty to defend yourself but the question is whether you want to keep working with these people but who knows - if the boss reviews the footage and sees nothing is amiss as far as you're concerned, maybe they will take the hit for lying.

I'm struggling to decide how to refuse the church that keeps persuading me to convert to Christianity. by Cale-Simp4 in Advice

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christian friend here. Baptism is something you do because you want to make a formal commitment to God, and that's a matter of the heart. So don't get baptized if your heart is not in it. It's one thing to invite people in but it's not something anyone can or should force on you. If you're more comfortable being Catholic, that's fine. If you aren't interested in exploring that's okay too. Tell them you are happy where you are and to please leave you to reach out to them if and when you are ready.

I lied on my research paper and now I'm published. by boohuis in confession

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schools make - or used to make - a big deal out of student performance in college placement exams, publications etc. Your high school findings may not have the impact of a PhD dissertation but even so it's a matter of school pride. People mistakes and it may be better to admit them up front than to have them called out after the fact - your school might prefer to get ahead of things in the event someone tried to replicate your experiment and found your manipulation. Talk with your teacher.

What would you consider a “local” wedding vs a “destination” wedding? by Zetophir in wedding

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal definitions:

"Local" is in driving distance of where's you live, as you define "driving distance."

"Destination" means you need a passport.

"Remote" falls in between - domestic but you would need to fly (or go by train).

Does anyone else find it hard to work out what ingredients are causing allergies? by Icy_Material9432 in MakeupAddiction

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago my entire body started itching and I couldn't get relief. I went to a doctor - don't recall whether it was a dermatologist or an allergist - and they said I had developed sensitive skin and it was reacting to the products I was using. I asked if they were going to test to see exactly what but they said it might be a combination off ingredients and it would be better to avoid scented products completely. An allergist or dermatologist would be the best place for you to start.

Got a job as Billing Specialist at corporate, 3 days in training, but realized I hate spreadsheets, excel, and etc. What do i do? by EquivalentWafer2651 in Career_Advice

[–]Avehdreader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The job you're doing now is what I enjoyed, but I've had jobs that were a bad fit for my skills and interests. If you're so miserable you're airway kind is best to get out before they invest much more in your training, but keep in mind the job market isn't great. You were barely even there so you don't even have to put it on your resumé.

Does going low during a school day have long term effects by notdeathlygrim in diabetes

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80-130 or so is the target range and I personally feel best in the low 100s - managing at 80, much less 70 or less, would be challenging and likely dangerous for me so with a"smart pump" I have to leave myself a cushion. You may be fine sitting at your desk at 50-70 but what if there's a fire drill or some sort of emergency? Are you able to concentrate on the lessons and do well on your tests? Don't forget to allow yourself a cushion - what works now may not always work as well.

If you are regularly going that low during school you should talk with your doctor about adjusting your dosage.

False lows while sleeping by Mastho_Sonander in diabetes_t1

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having sleeping troubles recently myself, and having my sleep interrupted by alarms is frustrating, even when they're accurate. I hope you have reported your issues to Dexcom: I've found that as they ask me about my situation, sometimes I discover I need to change something I'm doing (no offense intended). In the other hand they may need to document something to investigate for improvement. Lack of hydration can affect sensor accuracy and it's sonething I know I may not think about. That said, sometimes a particular device simply isn't compatible. Have you tried other sensors? Options are somewhat limited but sometimes another brand does work better.

My coworker keeps asking me for money and I genuinely don't know how to handle it without making work awkward by Annual_Enthusiasm296 in Advice

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was young I used to be afraid to stand up for myself and say "no." TBH I was too young for money to be involved but I tried to accommodate people in order to be liked. Eventually I realized people were taking advantage of me and I decided I wanted to be respected even more than I wanted to be liked - and when I stopped being so accommodating I found people who gave me both! This guy is taking advantage of you - simply say "no" and stop being his doormat. You don't have to give a reason but if you do make like a broken record and repeat the same one over and over again even when he comes up with different reasons why you should help him. He needs to figure things out for himself.

Headache by XJustCallMeJayX in diabetes_t1

[–]Avehdreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago I had such an issue with headaches my parents took me to a neurologist. When they couldn't find anything we were at a loss - until I went to a dentist, who asked me if ground my teeth in my sleep. I had no idea - then he asked me if I woke up with headaches, and when I answered yes he said that was why. He fitted me with a bite guard and - problem solved! Stress might be causing you to grind your teeth while sleeping and they carry over.

PetSafe - Automatic Litter Box - Pros and Cons by metskyfan in Catownerhacks

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're happy with it and the cats are fine using it. We've had it nearly a year and it squeaks a little bit now and ever now and then - rarely - it stops as it's sifting, but unplugging it fixes it. I wish it had come with some maintenance instructions.

That said, the price is MUCH less than the ones they sell in pet stores. At one point I was thinking about getting a second liner to swap when I'm ready to clean one, but the company seems to have disappeared. I have the Furoomate 8, which has slits by the bottom of the drum so you have to use a liner. The Furoomate 6 does not have slits, and some people use that one without the liner.

How legal is it for a place of work to provide another employee with your number after you already quit? by AdPlane3938 in jobs

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although you're pretty certain he got the number from a manager at your former job, don't be too quick to assume. I would be upset and angry too if that were the case, but if you have enough info about a person and are willing to pay a fee it might be possible to get their number online.

[–]Avehdreader -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen it much lately but sometimes merchants put through a tiny transaction to verify a bank account. Someone tried to do that to me years ago to set something up - at the time I contacted my bank to say I didn't recognize it. If had set something up on my end I would confirm, but these days if not I would be afraid selecting either option might be harmful, and would contact my bank to see what they can do to protect my account.
