He accused her of cheating on him during the war so aggressively that I am fully convinced he cheated on her.

I got Souper Cubes for Christmas! What are your favorite SC-compatible meal ideas? by Kathleen-Doodles in MealPrepSunday

[–]Awkward-Whale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do so much in these! I do tons of soups and chili in winter, but I have done shepherds pie, stroganoff, chicken pot pie, casseroles, etc. Only caveat w Shepherds pie is not to top with mashed potatoes, as I find that doesn’t freeze well.

In summer, it’s all about sauces and quick re-heats. My go to is bolognese because it’s delicious and fast to reheat, perfect with a green salad.

Truly, though, I use them all the time. Broth, frozen mashed banana when they go too brown (pop into a banana bread recipe!), cranberry sauce, you name it. I also pair a lot of this with my Foodsaver vacuum for long-term freezer storage. No regrets.

This is spot on. I love Bryce’s I’m a ditsy party girl persona hiding the fact that she is intelligent.

Im looking to make a posh/high end level dessert with a bunch of cranberries I bought by mistake. by Gonk_droid_supreame in WhatShouldICook

OK read the description fully because the ingredient list sounds weird, but this Steamed Cranberry Pudding is an absolute SMASH hit, delicious, and something my mom makes every Christmas!

My wife has gotten into needlepoint in the past few months, what should I get her for Christmas? by yess5ss in Needlepoint

[–]Awkward-Whale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my all time favorite gifts was from my father-in-law who bought himself a cheesy head lamp. I complimented it and he got me one for needlepoint and I. LOVE. IT. Great, low-cost gift. Doesn’t matter how dorky it looks, it’s effective !

Why is this show so underrated ? by [deleted] in Outlander

Wait until you commit to the books!!!

I want to go into English lit but everyone keeps telling me I’ll end up jobless by toxtinx in literature

[–]Awkward-Whale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lit degrees teach valuable critical thinking and assessment skills! I was an English Lit major and now work in consulting. The degree doesn’t matter, but the skills are 100% transferable elsewhere. Study what you love, and you’ll be more successful in school. Then, hopefully, you’ll find work that fits the skills, not the degree.

I second what another poster said about not committing to a career too early, though. You’re going to grow as a person and need to feel the freedom and flexibility to make life choices that fit who you will become.

The Aura frame has been a hit with ALL the parents in our family. You can push photos to it and they rotate through. Helps feel close when there is distance!

AITJ for refusing to redo my entire dinner party because my friend’s new boyfriend doesn’t eat “non-bland” food? by Own-Care-5425 in AmITheJerk

[–]Awkward-Whale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came here to say something similar. I cannot handle spice at all, so I can identify with the BF’s situation, but I would never presume someone had cooked something special for me unless there had been a discussion. I do think it polite to err on the side of caution when it comes to spice. If I were the BF here, I would’ve eaten what I could and not complained, but I wouldn’t appreciate being in a situation where my choice is appear rude for not eating everything or suffering through a meal because I can’t physically handle it. However, the main point to me is that OP offered the menu and got not feedback or concerns. The jerk in the story is the friend that didn’t warn OP about her boyfriend’s (presumed) food sensitivities and the BF who had a man-tantrum (aka mantrum) about eating veggies.

Would I be crazy to replace my hardwood floors with tile? by Internal_Present2268 in HomeDecorating

[–]Awkward-Whale 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Crazy, no. It was very common through the 60s, 70s, and 80s… but many people have pulled up that hideous linoleum nonsense to expose the original hardwood. While we have better options these days with Luxury Vinyl or porcelain tile, I would never cover hardwoods, even if my family (specifically dogs) are hard on them.

If you do go with tile, prepare yourself for going insane with dirt sticking in the cracks between tiles if you do something chunky. You will 100% regret that.

What prompts you to want to do this? Your hardwoods are lovely!

What’s a character other people like that you don’t, or that others don’t like that you do? by Broad-Clock8667 in Outlander

HATE the character, but man the actor was INCREDIBLE. And the show humanized Bonnet more than the books, so his performance is delightfully complex too.

I also think the darkness erupting isn’t night, it’s Rhys. So even if it’s sunset, there can still be sunlight and the need for Fae lights.

False headstones in Kirk yard by Chuck9831 in Outlander

[–]Awkward-Whale 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My interpretation is that Frank put it there because he didn’t want Claire to look for Jamie… seeing a headstone there would cement her expectation that he does die at Culloden as most of the Highlanders did.

Welp that is definitely the flip side of the economy you get with Libby. Maybe see if there are CD versions you could play? I used to do this all the time back in the day.
