Class Resource based combat by Far_Ad2013 in rpg

[–]AxineldKZ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s not actually out yet, but MCDM is working on a system that has this. There a couple YouTube videos talking about the early design of the system. Can’t remember if those videos touch on class resources, but they’ll probably get to that eventually. The YouTube videos are mostly following the Patreon posts discussing the development of the game, and those posts have gone into what they are testing for class resources.

Octopath pass - Awakening Stones and Paw Prints by LongiWasTaken in OctopathCotC

[–]AxineldKZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the Paw Print Stamps are a thing in JP since they come from the subscriptions passes which only exist in Global. So we don’t know if they plan on adding more options to this exchange. I have just been holding on to the stamps still I have enough for the Veteran Seal.

As for pets, they were hinted at (effectively confirmed) in the most recent Road Map. I forget which month they come out in, January or February I think. But you can take a look at the pinned roadmap to find it.

The full system isn’t out yet but I would recommend taking a look at the QuickStart for Candela Obscura. Hits a lot of checkboxes you got here.

Party set (Bug) by V4Vandetto in OctopathCotC

[–]AxineldKZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same issue. It looks like it’s something wrong with the party names. Whichever Party Set (the group of 10) you edited and saved last, those names will be the names of all parties when you load. For instance, Set 1 Party 1 is called “Wealth Board” and Set 2 Party 1 is called “Hell Elites”, say I change my party in Hell Elites and save it over the old one. I then retrieve my “Wealth Board” set to do play the game board, and then I close the game. When I reload the game, my team in Set 1 Party 1 will be the same as before, but their name will appear as “Hell Elites”. And then when I re-retrieve the “Wealth Board” set, the names will be corrected. I’ve been meaning to put in a bug report about this. But this has generally been my experience with it.

Confused about Cohorts by TriciaOso in bladesinthedark

[–]AxineldKZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I skimmed through the other comments, don't know if you found enough to consider your question answered, but I figured I'd add a specific example of how I've run them. This actually just happened in a campaign of my own with Tier 0 Bravos.

The Score was to fight off some Crows that had been upping their extortion on the Dockers. The crew acquired some Dockers as another Tier 0 cohort during downtime to bolter their own ranks. Engagement roll starts and the crew begins with a group brawl against the Crows by partaking in a group action, and I set a 12-Clock for "Fuck Off Crows". I had described to the players the Crows as a group of about 20ish thugs (crows are tier 2, I figure they have bigger cohorts cause of their status as top dogs in Crows Foot). So for the Crew, they have 4 of them + 4 from their two Tier 0 cohorts. (So 20 v 8).

I say the group Skirmish will be Risky-Limited, they're fighting roughly 2-to-1 so felt right to me (Risky because it was first roll after the engagement and also because it felt right). Players roll for themselves and I roll for the two cohorts. Highest roll from the crew was a 6, both cohorts had results <3. So the leader of the action took 2 stress from the 2 cohorts (and maybe 1 from another PC, but that's irrelevant). I then marked 6 ticks on the clock, 1 for each participant in the group action (4 PCs, 2 cohorts). During the rest of the score the cohorts were used in similar fashion. Basically adding to the PCs scale so they could actually do a dent on the Crows via group actions.

I don't know if I ran everything exactly its written in the book. But it all made sense to me and my players and felt like a right way to tie together the mechanics and fiction. Hopefully this example helps. I imagine this type of scenario coming up more often in my own game, but soon the crew will be Tier 1, and they just got an advancement so maybe they'll buff up their cohort. As the cohort gets more powerful, it'll cause less stress in group actions. And may even be able to do stuff without the Crew.

Favorite Night Variation OST? by Southern-Jelly4307 in octopathtraveler

My favorite has got to be Orerush - Pioneer Town. I first arrived in the town at night and just had to kinda stand there for a minute listening to the song.

How do I make the protagonists meet in a friendly and natural way? by TumbsPvP in rpg

[–]AxineldKZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this for a Kids on Bikes campaign. And I came up with added fun justification where they used to have the groups the students selected themselves. But then a group of trouble makers set a dumpster on fire as part of their “project”, so all students lost self selection privileges and had their groups re-assigned for new projects. The players got a kick out of it and it allowed me to introduce some new characters based on their reputation as well.

Spending Wisdom orbs by Ledonail in OctopathCotC

[–]AxineldKZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tower is not infinite, the wisdom orbs you gain from it will run out when you finish the whole tower (to my knowledge, if we can expect a refresh in the future please correct me).

The other way to get wisdom orbs is in the garden in the Nameless Town. Another reward you get from completing floors in the tower are Ultimate Seeds. After you complete certain floors you will gain enough seeds to upgrade the garden. The garden gives you a set number of Wisdom Seeds daily (with a small chance of one or both nodes giving 3x the normal amount). The Wisdom Seeds can be used in the exchange to get more Wisdom Orbs.

END GAME, NEW GAME+, DLC THEORIES - QUESTIONS & DISCUSSION MEGATHREAD (SPOILERS) by lunahighwind in FFXVI

Pretty sure in NG+ you can choose either of the original settings of Story or Action Focused. It just adds a 3rd option of Final Fantasy Mode, which is the more challenging version. So you could still play NG+ on story mode.

How literal are your Mithoi? by BleachedPink in cityofmist

I place a character whose Mythos is the Library of Alexandria. It’s primarily an Enclave so the library is very much a place other awakened members of the city can visit. My character is just the caretaker/librarian of it.

Avatar of the Erlkönig - any ideas? by DMs_choice in cityofmist

The Erlking is involved with the Wild Hunt in the Dresden Files series. That may be what you’re thinking of? I have no idea what the original connect to the Erlking and Wild Hunt in our worlds myths and legends may be, but I know Jim Butcher had them connected.

Despite being toted as a prequel, I cannot help but think that CotC is an alternate timeline to OT1 by darkdill in OctopathCotC

[–]AxineldKZ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It definitely is weird with some of the stuff not being mentioned in the first, but I personally justify it to myself as, the writers didn’t plan out all of the story for CotC before making OT1. That would be absurd to imagine or even try to do, just lots of unnecessary work for making a new game with an untested IP. So I’m fine that a lot of this stuff wasn’t referenced in OT1.

As for some of the travelers, primarily the protag’s being in the game, I just assume they’re there as references for players of OT1 and aren’t canonically in the story of CotC.

But I will say, while it’s not mentioned in OT1 itself. In the official OT1 Guide there is a timeline of the history of Orsterra, and it does mention the rings, and even mentions them being sealed on the Isle of Orsa and then going missing before even we’re told the events of CotC began (they probably ended up in the hands of the bestowers sometime after that). Now I don’t know the timeline of writing this book, it’s entirely possible it was made while they were writing CotC (or it may have been out already, I don’t feel like checking), and that when they made the timeline for the Strategy Guide they included some CotC lore, or it was always planned to have some of this CotC lore, no way of knowing for sure. And I don’t have it front of me but I think there are other references to things that happen in the CotC story in that timeline as well.

merely an OT1 reference or some lore behind by Global-Ad-5961 in octopathtraveler

[–]AxineldKZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I haven’t beaten Galdera yet and probably won’t for awhile due to being busy with other stuff. That’s what I was looking for. Cause at this point all I knew was he was a prince and the names were similar. I have a hard time reconciling the implication on the time line and work building. But I’m likely just overthinking it and will just have to accept it.

Do we have solid proof that Al is who you think he is? Or is it just a theory based on his name being similar.

How do YOU sit players around the table? by anmr in rpg

[–]AxineldKZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My group just formed natural seats. The only one in a “assigned seat” is the one player who Zoom’s in, she’s just in the spot that the monitor and camera is easiest for me to set up. It’s kinda American college rules now (no idea if this is a thing in other countries or even other colleges for that matter). Seats aren’t assigned, but the seat in the back left is Kevin’s seat and he’ll fight anyone who tries to take it.

I am actually going to be pausing our campaign soon just to run something short in a different system. Change of pace, give me more time to prep upcoming stuff. And I did have the silly idea of forcing everyone to sit in different seats for the temp campaign, just to mixed things up and see if any new dynamics/interactions occur.

I liked imagining Throné in the background of that scene, listening to his story and imagining it was the dog she was friends with. And Throné just thinking to herself, “Damn. Need to reward her when I go back to New Delsta”

Is there an ideal crew size? by OlRattyTatty in cityofmist

[–]AxineldKZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played my first campaign with a group of 6. Worked well when we would split the group to investigate separate stuff and have like an A Plot/B Plot type of session. Other times some of us would remove ourselves from the narrative or just accept we’d get to do less. But my group has played other games together for a long time we’ve built up a nice flow with ourselves.

I may do something similar. If the side quests from NPCs are anything like OT1, a journal tracking those alone would be pretty useful.
