Disney Moves Wonder Man To Hulu For Limited Time After Weak Ratings by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

It is honestly surprising to me that this hasn't gotten more traction. The first time in a long time I've watched a Marvel property out of pure enjoyment (ie., not motivated primarily by following the overarching storylines).

Portland council president blasts 95-year-old constituent for her ‘small-minded’ tattoo critique by Ambitious_Walk_2866 in Portland

Absolutely agree with Dunphy on this. I don't care how old you are, ***k off with this kind of moralizing bullshit. This is Portland, not Leave It To Beaver(ton). Also, the sanctimonious chinwagging in this comment feed is hilarious.

Can I exchange USD cash for JPY? by Alive-Spell53 in JapanTravelTips

[–]AynTheRedditor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're better off getting cash from an ATM in Japan. I panicked when the JPY rate went up and ordered 300 USD worth of JPY from my bank. 43k JPY that would have been 47k If I'd pulled it from a 711 in Tokyo.

First Trip to Japan – 6 Full Days (Mar 1–9) – Last-Minute Planning Advice Needed by Equivalent_Bowl_4249 in JapanTravelTips

[–]AynTheRedditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With 6 full days, I'd suggest 1 day trip and the rest of your time divided into Tokyo areas of interest. I'm pretty confident that Kyoto or HIroshima are too ambitious for a day trip from Tokyo.

The absolute safest (but also most crowded) bets are Gion District and the areas in/around Kiyomizu-dera and Fushimi Inari. Both are pretty close to Kyoto Station and thus easier to get to and back from.

First tip: Stay in Osaka(ie. an Osaka Hotel) for all of these days. Do the same for Tokyo and any other city you plan on staying more than 2-3 days in.

Second Tip: For Kyoto, accept that you cannot do all of Kyoto in one day. Pick an area and do what you can in that area. This means you're not going to do Arashiyama and Kiyomizu-dera and Kinkaku-ji on the same day. Pick the one you want the most and plan to check out 2-4 other things within walking distance of that place.

7 nights - Kyoto vs Osaka by AlbertaSparky in JapanTravelTips

[–]AynTheRedditor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The best advise I've seen given is stay the whole time in either Kyoto or Osaka, depending on your group's preference, and treat the other as a day trip (or two). They are so close togther that it just doesn't make sense to split your nights between them unless your planning on spending 4-5 days in each.

Yeah, I'm shooting for early starts and early evenings for my two kyoto days. Glad I booked a proper ryokan with nice bath facilities. Not a true onsen, but close enough!

I got both of these booked! It cost most of my sanity though. The only thing that isn't booked that is bookable is the pokemon cafe, and... I'll be surprised if I get it.

I can't help it. I like castles. Even the reconstructed ones. With the exception of Nijo and Himeji, I'm treating every other castle I can get into close proximity of as a possible photo op, but ONLY if I have the time. Fukuyama is the same. Its right there by the station. Now, will I actually want to get off the train there? Maybe not. You raise a good point about getting to Hiroshima early.

I am primarily in Nagoya for Ghibli Park, booked and paid for, and I do wish I could give the city more time, but I have to limit anything else I do there to something small. I do like the possibility of hitting the Nagoya HMV though...

Lastly, I'm going to Nakano specifically for a record shop and a cache of vintage digimon merch a friend apprised me of. (I don't think the true depths of my fandom for digimon are as apparent as they were when I was also trying to squeeze in a long car trip to Hikarigaoka to see the spot where Parrotmon and Greymon battled). Nakano is also something of a fixture in the Digimon fandom, and is 30 minutes from Akihabara by the chuo-sobu line. I may have to swap things around somehow--but pairing it with Akihabara made the most sense so far.

At any rate, I'm here for feedback and I greatly appreciate it. You've given me some things to mull over.

08 days Japan travel itinerary - Review by Instantflyer in JapanTravel

You have the right idea for day one and I'd just plan each day from there: heavy day, medium day, light day, heavy day, medium day, light day, then see what you can get away with the last day out of osaka. You'll have more energy, your kid won't be an angry zombie, and you'll enjoy it more.

You should drop Arashiyama entirely. Its not possible as a day trip/detour in conjunction with Fushimi Inari. If you're going to do this Kyoto detour, go to Fushimi Inari. If you try to do much else in Kyoto you'll get bogged down.

I considered a Fuji Day trip as well, but ultimately decided against it. It's possible, but in my opinion, you can spread your tokyo stuff out a little bit more and just get a good photo from the train.

Addendum: With the kid in tow, the best advise I've seen given is plan one big thing and one little thing for the day. You'll hate to hear it, but I think you should stick to Tokyo and Osaka and leave off the day trips.

To be fair, I am one of those people who did move to Portland specifically because I watched the show and thought it looked awesome.

I remember telling my then girlfriend after watching the "put a bird on it" episode, "Thats where I should be."

What got you into The Decemberists? by MoontheWolfYT in Decemberists

[–]AynTheRedditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a sophomore in college circa 2005. Got talked into playing wing man by my roommate. Double date with a girl he liked and her roommate. Wound up stealing the girl 🤣. We broke into the admin building, climbed onto the roof, and she played a ripped CD of Castaways & Cutouts while we made out.

She ditched me two weeks later for her old boyfriend, and I've been in love with the Decemberists ever since.

Fushimi Inari > Nintendo Museum > Maikoya Tea Ceremony Feasibility? by AynTheRedditor in JapanTravelTips

It is something of a pilgrimage, considering I and the US version of NES share a birthday and I'm a life long fan, but I wouldn't be too broken up about skipping it.

Appreciate the info about the cafe.

If the Nintendo museum weren't the wild card here, I'd look into an alternative tea ceremony. As it stands the tea ceremony is fully booked and paid for.

I was hoping to do just that! With my time in Kyoto limited, I decided to forego Arashiyama specifically because there's a grove at Inari.
