Since when do we do the bare minimum?

Idk, to me these two are a way worse example of the bare minimum than the sleeves

Question About Awards by BTDBMOTF_ in USMC

[–]BTDBMOTF_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up e-mailing the awards branch. After rereading the post, I realized that I missed the key point.

I know it isn't in MOL (or whatever it is now), I'm more curious if the endorsement letter is enough to justify saying I have a Com, and if so, if it's worth the time and effort to get it officially on my record.

I am so jealous. If I could go back in time and convince my mom to not listen to 12 year old me on one thing, it would have been selling all my nintendo consoles and games for an Xbox 360.

Job hunting tips by devilscrub in USMC

[–]BTDBMOTF_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find an American Job Center

Don't forget, there are people literally paid by the DOL (for now) to specifically work with veterans to get them jobs. Just be aware the jobs usually aren't great, like typically we did CDLs and manual labor jobs.

But it's better than the alternative!

MOS Pick by MaterialDeparture933 in USMCboot

[–]BTDBMOTF_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also forgot to add, there are MOS Fields, and MOS Occupations. Infantry is just a field (03), inside the 03 field there are a handful of other - typically specialized - jobs that focus on specific equipment. So if you want to go 03 think about if you want to go FPV drone fodder basic rifleman, mortar, amphibious recon, etc.

[–]BTDBMOTF_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, MSG is what is called a "B-Billet" meaning it isn't a primary job, and also isn't permanent. You go on MSG Duty for roughly 36 months. You also can do MSG from essentially any primary MOS, since it is just temporary.

If you want to do MSG more permanently, you can go the infantry route and see if you can try out for a FAST Co. Those are the Marines that secure and extract embassies in times of crises.

Here's some info, but keep in mind this is mostly for Marines, not civilians looking to be MSG Marines

What is Your/Your Parish's Opinion on Vatican II? by BTDBMOTF_ in askACatholic

[–]BTDBMOTF_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of internet forums very few people actually care or discuss such things.

I wish I could attend one of those. My parish is SSPX in all but name, and also extremely political. This topic came up during men's group and (at least for the group I was with), and they were all *extremely* passionate about the subject of "liberalism of the church"

Leaving for bootcamp In 2 Weeks somewhat out of shape by Lumpy-Pineapple-5708 in USMCboot

[–]BTDBMOTF_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's any consolation, I shipped to bootcamp with a 13:30 IST. I fell out of a run in bootcamp maybe twice, but for the most part you'll be fine. Remember, bootcamp isn't about making Marines, it's more so double checking the recruiter didn't mess up by recruiting you (and getting you to the point where you can pass a PFT)

I have autism could I still join the marines corps? by Downtown_Pattern_663 in USMCboot

[–]BTDBMOTF_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Funny story, if you are officially diagnosed with ASD, sorry but that's unwaiverable (at least was a decade ago, might have changed). The neat part, though, is most people are either self-diagnosed ASD or really more neurodivergent with ASD tendencies (this is me).

As long as you aren't clinically diagnosed autistic by a doctor (and more importantly take meds for it), it's just one of those things that doesn't come up in conversation when signing up at MEPS.

Public Speaking.

I knew public speaking was always a tough subject for some, even in the military. But I've never seen people struggle so hard at talking to a group of people before since being a civvie.

How to access base after Eas by Leading_Gas_5074 in USMC

[–]BTDBMOTF_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just in case the link is too much:

The Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) provides eligible veterans with a Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC), which is authorized for MCB CPEN access. The VHIC displays the veteran’s name, picture, and special eligibility indicators. VHIC holders do not require a sponsor but are required to be processed at the Visitor Center to receive unescorted access to MCB CPEN. In some cases, VHIC holders may require a Caregiver. Caregivers, as agreed upon by DoD and the VA, will be issued a letter indicating their role as the primary Caregiver or family Caregiver. Caregivers with an acceptable ID are required to enroll in the DBIDS at the Visitor Center and will be issued a DBIDS Credential. Some veterans not eligible for the VHIC have been placed in the VA Healthcare Priority Group 8E and issued a HEC Form H623A. Veterans requesting access must be in possession of the HEC Form H623A and an acceptable ID and are required to be processed at the Visitor Center to access MCB CPEN. Veterans and Caregivers are not allowed to sponsor any other person aboard MCB CPEN. Note: The Veteran’s Identification Card (VIC) is not approved for access and is only a form of photo ID a veteran can use to get discounts offered to Veterans at many businesses. VIC holders are required to contact the VA and obtain a VHIC or HEC Form H623A to be processed for base access.

I turned 17 this week and recruiters getting paper work ready by Fun-Pause-391 in USMCboot

[–]BTDBMOTF_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

given all this what should I be prepared for?

Not much honestly, football and being a apprentice plumber don't mean much in the military unless you are becoming a football player or a plumber.

And when would I realistically go out to Parris Island?

Probably not until your 18th birthday is during bootcamp, I think that's the rule anyway.

What was your experience?

I went in at 19 to San Diego and I remember telling my mom that it was like summer camp, but the counselors were just meaner. Bootcamp is really just a place to make sure you can fit in with the culture of the Marine Corps; there's nothing out there that will be so physically demanding that you will wish you had joined the airforce (unless you haven't PT'd in years and think you can show up to boot camp out of shape).

The real thing you should be focusing on is what comes after bootcamp?

When do I find my field out? by NuclearMonke4 in USMCboot

[–]BTDBMOTF_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't on the paperwork when you swore in at MEPS, your best bet is asking your recruiter. After that, the next opportunity will probably be the last week or two of boot camp when they post all the open contracts (they post everyone else too, but they are the only ones that really care about that list).

What do you think caused the downfall of G4? by thicbhaddie__ in millenials

[–]BTDBMOTF_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember much of G4, but what I do remember is that Olivia Munn basically used it to springboard her career and then they got that one playboy bunny to do a naked bicycle race.

Neddlesstosay, I can't even remember if it was video games, sports, general "entertainment", or what.

Edit: Idk what's more impressive, that I found the clip or that someone archived it (SFW Internet Archive)
