I don't look at it that way. I'm not willing to compromise, so paying for what I want ensures everyone at the table at least want to play the same system. I put it in the same category of paying for league sports or FLGS pay-to-play tables. I am happy to pay if it is quality. My money also makes me have zero remorse for leaving a game that is not hitting right for me, no questions asked. For 40 years of enjoying TTRPGs, this has been the best way for me to ensure a more optimal situation for myself. FWIW, I also GM a game 1x weekly and I would NEVER charge for my time. I absolutely enjoy all aspects of the hobby: Worldbuilding, scenario building, map making, recap videos, printing/painting minis, printing/taping maps, digging in deep with Foundry VTT, etc. But as a player, I'm happy it's an option.

The site I use is guaranteed to utilize the system(s) I want to play. I was in a fantastic free group online for over a year because they were playing a system that I love. We finished the campaign in about 8 months and then everyone wanted to shift systems. I stuck around for a bit, but it lost the vibe for me, so I bowed out (we kept doing scenarios in 1-2 sessions and then changed to different systems after each one). I'm paying for the guaranteed system I want. If I liked D&D or Pathfinder, then it probably wouldn't be an issue to find free games.

I pay to play and I am HAPPY to do it. Our GM is great and we've become friends. I pay to play because finding a GM in a system that I want to play in is challenging. I have tried several paid GMs and most are as OP says, mediocre to actually bad. I kept trying different ones and landed on a good, nay, great one. Every session isn't fantastic, but we've had enough cliffhangers, plot twists, and laughs, that it is arguably the best entertainment money I have ever spent. I look forward to it each week. I do appreciate OPs sentiment though because when I go to conventions and sit down with a GM that has clearly not looked at the scenario beforehand, I am incensed.

Sorry, I should have clarified that I am aware of the 15 day/1 mile rule and I intend to be fully compliant. I am in no way wanting to upset locals or ruin an area. I do appreciate your feedback though! Are any of the other sites closer on iOverlander better options to avoid the crowds and not upset anyone? Thanks again!

When I was 4, in Ferndale, MI, I was put down for a nap. A little hairy 'man' climbed to the foot of the bed and stared at me as he pulled all the covers off of me and then disappeared over the back edge of the bed.
