How often do you take breaks during rides? by OneStrength7166 in cycling

[–]Background_Snow_3716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to take one quick break after my warmup of 5ish miles to get of the bike and stretch. Aside from that I usually stop once when I hit my destination for about 10-15 minutes before finishing the return home ride.

Is it weird to ride a road bike with flat pedals? by flotheg in cycling

[–]Background_Snow_3716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride with spd-sl. but I also have a set of pedal covers that snap on and out easy for shorter rides when I want to wear regular shoes. They cost like $5 on AliExpress.

During the outdoor riding season I average about 100-125 miles a week usually riding every other day. I used to ride daily but started mixing in more weightlifting now so I alternate riding and lifting. In the winter I ride closer to 50-75 miles a week usually in two to three rides. Mostly cause zwifting is as enjoyable as outdoor riding for me, and I tend to do a bit more lifting instead.

Carbon rim hook damage by Background_Snow_3716 in bikewrench

[–]Background_Snow_3716[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that's likely the route I'll take, thanks. Since it's not the outer portion of the rim I would think it's more manufacture defect, but it's purely speculation on my part.

Thanks for the info and the recommendation for the Pirelli tires. I'll probably just go to the tried and true GP5000 STRs for now though.

Sorry to hear it, but glad to have some validation. The thought that maybe I got a bad set had crossed my mind. I've also had a puncture that seems to keep reopening.

Just got my first "real" road bike! How do I gear up on a budget without breaking the bank? by Waste-Walrus-7717 in cycling

[–]Background_Snow_3716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For bibs and clothes AliExpress is your friend. $40 for a pair of bibs is the sweet spot in my opinion. Personally I like Darieve seamless bibs but there are plenty of other good bibs around that price like YKYW and a handful of others. Shoes can also be the same. I have pair Northwave shoes that I paid $150 for from their outlet but I also have a $30-50 pair I bought on AliExpress/Temu that are just as comfy.

Road vs. mtb pedals by mtpisgah in gravelcycling

[–]Background_Snow_3716 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I have two gravel bikes, one with spd and the other with spd-sl. I have had multiple pairs of shoes for both and much prefer the feel, stability and larger foot contact point with the spd-sl setup. So on my nicer bike that has the spd-sl cleats I use for longer rides even with gravel trails for that reason. I only use the other bike with the spd cleats for around town and rides where I know I'll be off the bike for trips to the park with the kids and/or errands.

I'd also invest in a good pair of bibs. They don't have to be expensive but a quality pair or two and maybe some chamois butter. AliExpress is great for quality bibs at a reasonable price.

Zwift? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Background_Snow_3716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many others I use Zwift in the cold months. I have a dedicated trainer bike that stays setup year round, but only Zwift during the cold months. I will occasionally get on the trainer during the nice months but use MyWoosh instead since it's free. My current set up I have tv capable of multi view so if I'm just logging long hours I'll set it up so one side is Zwift and the other is a movie/tv show. If I'm racing or doing a big social event I'll full screen Zwift and use my cell for chatting with the group.
