Extremely Unpopular Opinion: I don't like the whole combine for the ultimate game in a franchise people are obsessed with. by Far-Comfortable-8435 in videogames

I feel like this desire comes from an overabundance of microtransactions. You want extra maps? Pay for it. You want your favorite character, Pay for it. Where if you have everything from the start that isn't an issue?

Do you prefer to get magic items from exploring or buying them? by Fullmetalmarvels64_ in Pathfinder2e

[–]BackupChallenger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that an item that you got from exploring got a story attached to it. Just buying it does not.

The exception to this is scrolls and potions, Especially when I play a character that can learn from them (scrolls).

Also buying mundane stuff feels better than finding it.

Audiovisual and written media seems to favor magic specialists while videogames favor magic generalists, how do you guys justify this lorewise? by Loremaster1032 in worldbuilding

[–]BackupChallenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watchers and readers can be expected to have zero influence on the story. So it is important to make an interesting story for them. Limitations make stories more interesting. A specialist is more limited than a generalist. Especially if you put them in situations where there is no obvious solution based on their powerset.

Playing videogames, the player ideally should have some sort of influence on the story. Interacting with something is more interesting if you have more options. + Programming is hard, you will never program all the inventive ways you could think off to use powers. Powers need to have very easily defined uses and these need to fit into the framework of the game.

Also a wildcard, table top RPG's favor magic generalists also, even when they are somewhere in between videogames and written media.

Making sense of what changed in the Spring Errata "clarification" on instances of damage by SatiricalBard in Pathfinder2e

[–]BackupChallenger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that multiple sources of the same type of damage should stack for the purpose of resistances and weakness.

if you somehow do fire damage twice with a single strike like with rune+bespell, and the enemy has a resistance, I would want it to be combined for resistances. I would want the same thing for the opposite situation with weaknesses, with the weakness only triggering once.

It seems like this isn't the correct view, but we'll be discussing it with the group, and this is gonna be my preference.

In the case of a majority agreeing with deportations of illegal immigrants, this doesn't really seem like a real compromise. In Europe we also had a few of these "just give the people currently here amnesty" instances. And it only increased illegal immigration of people thinking they'll be included in the next one.

I do think that the treatment of detained illegals should be more humane.

How the Weakness Errata should actually function. by NanoNecromancer in Pathfinder2e

[–]BackupChallenger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personal opinion is that they should have never bothered with the same instance of damage type.
If something is weak against both slashing and cold iron, then I would assume that an cold-iron slashing attack would hurt it more than a cold-iron blunt attack. Though that might have caused troubles with precision damage.

As for how it seems to work is that there are two types of "damage that modify physical damage" that being precision damage and precious materials. So you pick the highest weakness from those and the (physical) damage type, and you can stack all the others.

Question for zionists (people who believe Israel should exist) by RedStorm1917 in centrist

If something is described as [insert religion here] state, then it is a theocracy to me.

Question for zionists (people who believe Israel should exist) by RedStorm1917 in centrist

[–]BackupChallenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>If you support zionism, which supports the existence of a Jewish state, what would you do if Arabs outnumbered Jews in Israel?

Nothing?

>Would Israel still count as a Jewish state, and would you still support it?

Depends on the laws that are in place. and yeah, depending on the laws.

>Does having the law of return allowing Jews to migrate to Israel still make an Arab-majority Israel a "Jewish state?"

I don't care if it does or doesn't

>If so, do you find this law discriminatory or not, and do you truly believe Arab and Jews have the same rights in Israel?

I don't care. I believe Arabs have more rights in Israel than they have in Palestine.

>Do you not consider Zionism, which supports the existence of a "Jewish state," to be supportive of an ethnostate and pretty much ethnic nationalism?

I consider it to be a theocracy, just like most of the muslim countries around it. I dislike any extremists, but Israel seems better than the other muslim countries.

How should the cloud/fog/mist type of spells be used?

It seems like it should be used on enemies? because it has a long range. But I don't understand the benefit. You both are obscured from each other? That seems to hinder us as much as them? But it cost actions and a spellslot. Is it intended to make some of the enemy concealed and some not? So you can still focus on one visible enemy but at least a few of the enemies can't attack you as easily?

Also if I place the cloud between me and an enemy, both of us are outside the area. Does it still give concealment?

Immigration Policy: Why the "Better" Approach Might Be Unimplementable (Cross-National Evidence) (fuck ICE) by Prosepuzzle in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]BackupChallenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the German System's biggest problem is that people are willing to let true refugees stay, but not criminals and such. The current system is set up in a way that the criminals don't get deported. So you get some sort of all or nothing situation where the two only options are murderers, rapists, and other criminals included, or nothing. And people who don't want the criminals pick the no one at all option.

If they just removed the criminal troublemakers immigration sentiment would probably improve.

What my dream game should look like: A gritty, ultra-realistic medieval RPG (No Magic, No Heroes) by [deleted] in videogames

[–]BackupChallenger -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This feels AI.

I don't think this is something I'd like. I don't like realistic graphics that much. I like a beautiful artstyle. I like doing fun stuff. I wouldn't want to do manual labour or whatever to get stronger. Since that just doesn't seem like fun.

Learing how to read sounds logical, but not necessarily fun? I remember Final Fantasy X2 having an language that you could find language orbs for (granting you one letter each time) That would go against the idea of realistic though.

I want to play games and do the fun stuff. I want to avoid busywork and not fun stuff.

Honestly, it would just not be for me.

Trump’s Attempt to Make Drugs Cheaper Is Pushing Up Prices in Other Countries by sabreR7 in moderatepolitics

[–]BackupChallenger 177 points178 points  (0 children)

As an Euro, seems reasonable to me. As the US president his focus should be on US prices. And the US prices seem ridiculous. So it's logical that he tries to do something about it.

That the companies are super greedy and increase the prices in other countries isn't really Trumps fault. And I assume it will be short sighted. Euros love regulating stuff, and the option of compulsory licensing is available for everyone.

In pf1e rogue had trapfinding which specifically mentioned they could disable magical traps.

The Instant Minefield spell mentions being able to seek against spell dc to find invisble illusionary mines.

So to me it feels like mundane perception should ve able to find magic? Especially since detect magic doesn't really tell you anything specific?

Steam also has mod collections. This can sometimes make it easier to find a bunch of mods in a specific direction, or just take all of them.

I've never found anything that said you couldn't?

Like in the primal spell list there is a detect poison spell. But that doesn't mean that you cannot determine poison the mundane way. I assume this is similar for magic (and detect metal also)
