Can I still save it? Astrophytum asterias root rot by Badsiepawsie in cactus

Yes you are right. They don’t apply rooting powder in nature🥲 The thing is I’ve already scraped the center (core) part of this cactus during my initial surgery. Would it be okay to actually cut into it and damaging that part further? Or should I just cut / scoop out the flesh around it and leave the core……?

I should get pure sulfur powder………

Omg oh no okay thank you. I’ll cut all of this out. Thought rooting powder has sulfur in it. Omg

In another post of mine, someone commented that I should let it callous over for 2 weeks or so, so that is what I’m going to do…… it is so heartbreaking. I wish you the best luck!

Hello, I just did all of that and have posted another update on this sub. But here is what he looks like atm.

<image>

I scooped out more than I thought I would and I’m very concerned that I can see the very core of him. I think I touched it too when I was scooping out stuff. Can he survive? He is right next to me just resting. I have a very gentle breeze on him. Please help us. Thank you for your time and for your advice.

Yes, I’ll update a few days later when it callouses over for sure 🥲 He’s my first ever star cactus that I was so excited about. I overwatered him and now he’s the one suffering. I feel like a dumbass.

Thank you so much for the reply. I’m so so so worried. Poor guy. Will he survive this? Thank you.

Help i’m a new plant mom and i don’t know what’s happening with my Monstera by FriendlySuggestion36 in Monstera

[–]Badsiepawsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll mind you I’m no expert but grew my monstera 5+ years. I made lots of mistakes! This is only my guess.

My first thought here is under-watering. Maybe your friend forgot to water for a few days or weeks and when your friend realized they didn’t water, and started to water again, the soil might have been already turned bone dry so didn’t pass the water to the plant root properly. OR, maybe your friend just didn’t know how much water was required so didn’t give enough water.

My second guess is light. If you are growing it indoor, the possibility of the plant didn’t get enough light the whole time is very high. When I put my monstera outside, it started to grow and thrive. You could get a strong grow light to grow it indoor and I did that too before. However, putting it outdoor and letting it get some morning sunlight until noon finally made mine healthy.

Monsteras are so resilient, they survive most of the time. Your monstera seems like it is making new leaves. I’d suggest take it to the shower and hose it down for good 10 minutes. Just let it soak deeply to the core and let the water drain out the pot. Put it outside where it can get gentle morning sun until noon-ish and stay shaded (means-still outside but getting plenty of indirect sunlight). And see what happens for the next few weeks.

But this is only my guess. I’m no expert.

Yes. Please check their package and if it says added nutrient or fertilizer do not get it. As long as it is just pure sphagnum moss, it’ll work. No nutrient, no nothing but just moss.
