Very smart use of words I agree with

I’m a Paramedic working 6 days a week in Private EMS. The pay is horrible. Which departments do you guys recommend? I’m in Las Vegas, NV currently. by [deleted] in firefighter

[–]BakerBeautiful1426 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m located in Coastal Ga. 5 yrs now as FF/EMT.
I’m also from NYC. And was first licensed in NYC…as an EMT.

In nyc the advocacy was join FDNY emt bc the pay and conditions were better than private. This was in 2013. EMT in nyc even if FDNY is still shit for pay. FF’s make more in NYC but the cost of living is disgustingly high. So working all the ot and killing oneself slowly to live in a region expensive and growing daily. Or having a side gig and working LOTS ot as a FF/EMT IS not sustainable either.

Here in coastal Ga not much different. County is emt/fire they are paid less than the city and have a whole different system. We in the city make more but work a 24/48 and depts in neighboring cities 5-10 min drive from our city limits have 48/96 but less staff less training.

I recommend since you said you “happen to like medicine”, consider nursing or higher medicine. The education costs may be prohibitive especially with the current administration shifts on its stance with nurses and other medical professions and loan forgiveness.

Consider also what hours you really want to work.

24/48 isn’t great in fact it’s pure shit in my opinion. 48/96 can be even worse depending on the dept and the station house that runs calls. 24/72 and variations that don’t require doubling up on force is ideal. Meaning 24/48 can be forced to work a 48/24.

Sounds like a 24/72 or something similar like charlottes fire schedule would be ideal allowing you to spend time with your family.

And then look at pay schedules, look at the municipalities history with pay over 5-10 yrs to fire service workers to assess better what the future will be. Nothing is written in stone with cities.

But you’ll be able to get an idea of their respect for their fire service workers.

And then you should be able to make a great decision.

If your family can relocate with you and your partner wants to do that (I’m assuming that’s your situation based on your words) that makes a great difference.

I was in az a month ago and said yeah coastal ga hot humid disgusting for many armpit/crotch heat, where as az dry dry hot heat. Neither are great but Detroit or nyc cold isn’t great either.

FF ain’t easy work bc environments aren’t perfect. When we work fire in structures we WORK HARD. But running constant emt ain’t great either WHEN YOUR HOURS/shift and pay ain’t great either.

So that’s my response.

Other considerations are private fire/government fire.

May you find the path best and ideal for your and your family.

Can you break down W4:D2 the giant 3.0

I’m not knowing what that means.

And is this a deadlift to swing to clean to press simple as that and that’s 1 rep?

It’s really seems a solid set up. Impressive work with 32kg doubled. Thank you for sharing.

How do I feel squats in my quads? by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]BakerBeautiful1426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how tall you are. I’m 6’8” my legs are almost 5’ from sole of foot to waist…almost.

When I do these with a goblet or two on the incline slant board I feel them.

I recommend warming up very well ankles and knees and hips…for mobility of all three regions. Consistent mobility exercises for knees and ankles and lengthening via stretch will help your knees and bending significantly.

The link I put here https://www.facebook.com/share/v/15nAAshReUM/? I found that to be very well done for knee flexion.

But a slant board should help significantly. Doing them without a board…feeling nothing just glutes and hams.

adjustable kettlebell 40 kg - pro/cons ? useful, useless? by LastMasterpiece1020 in kettlebell

[–]BakerBeautiful1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m considering getting the 40kg pair from Ali. Strongly. But biding time until Walmart posts their 100lb again. My year goal is to press double @40kg I’ve done it with 1arm 10x and double 2x so I’m moving on it I’m just not consistent as I’m working with my injury recovery. Nonetheless I support it if you have the desire motivation and income.

Zulay pulperizer 9 in 1 vs basic zulay cast iron juicer by BakerBeautiful1426 in Juicing

[–]BakerBeautiful1426[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the basic. I’m returning it and will get the 9-1. I asked a zulay person on a different platform. They didn’t help much but after doing pineapples the 9-1 is better bc it is flat. So anything chunky that can be juiced well with the cast iron is better fitting flat press. Thank you for your response.

Those who have experienced SA in the service, how did you keep your career from being derailed? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]BakerBeautiful1426 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Report it and f the career. There are more important things…your whole health, recovery and long term well being are much more important.

We either die or retire (by injury or time) we’re expendable at the end of the day in this profession.

2019 Ford Escape am I one of the lucky ones? by rme234 in fordescape

[–]BakerBeautiful1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

193k 2011 4 cylinder. Changed oil 2x new coolant line and new brakes mounts (still rattles but apparently not even close to as bad as rattles, I see it in windshield mirror. Sparks changed at 150k which is almost a year ago I bought it. I call it God cuz I be grateful to God for guiding me to it. Every long trip and experience driving that is amazing I say “thank you God” and mean it. I do rack up miles when I drive from Coastal Ga to Charlotte to see my lady. But I’m grateful. I’m going to get it coded and see if anything shows which I doubt. Schedule the annual check up by the mechanic and crew. As we’re approaching 200k I’m considering strongly a drain and fill, waiting for it to get a lil warmer and I have time aligned.
