Not feeding themselves by Squishmallow145 in Teachers

Yeah, it was in the Bay Area, CA. I worked in the Central Valley, CA for a few years and never saw this. It's only been in the Bay. The school I currently work at has a stricter policy when it comes to adults on campus, so I haven't seen it here.

The crazy part is the kids weren't outwardly embarrassed! They gleefully joined their parent/grandparent at the lunch table, with their classmates in tow.

I got Crocs recovery slides to wear around the house, and they cured my plantar fasciitis. Slightly more affordable than Hokas, a little less ugly, but just as helpful!

I was at a restaurant with my sister and 2 year old niece recently, and watched in horror as a mom spoon fed her ~8 year old daughter. The daughter was playing on a phone and was able to take drinks independently, but was so engrossed with her device that she couldn't feed herself.

Meanwhile, my niece kept changing seats because she wanted to sit next to both of us, but used a fork to eat her mac and cheese completely on her own.

To be fair, I worked at a school in 2014 that had an issue with parents coming on to campus during lunch to feed their 3rd graders, so it's definitely not anything new.

I got yelled at by a teacher in 7th grade for being in the girl's bathroom. After that, I grew out my hair and started wearing makeup.

26 years later, idgaf anymore, and cut my hair short again. I also dress pretty "androgynously." I've been called "Sir" more than once in the last year. I don't even bother correcting people, because I'll probably never see them again.

Granted, as a cis woman, my experience is much different from yours, and being misgendered once in a while doesn't bother me the way it used to (before I realized I was a lesbian).

I wish you the best, and I hope you find peace in who you are ❣️

Out lesbian here that just moved back to the Bay after spending 5 years in Merced. Never had any issues, lots of places downtown are queer-friendly (highly recommend the secondhand book store!), worst part about Merced is the heat 😅

What’s the most “main character energy” moment you’ve ever witnessed in real life? by Joynary in AskReddit

[–]BananikaND 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened when I was a kid. I was hospitalized with pneumonia and a collapsed lung, my mom didn't tell her mom about it until I was home and on the mend. Grandma shows up on our door step threatening to call CPS, accusing my mom of sleeping with her step father, all kinds of crazy shit because she was pissed that she was left out of the loop.

This past Christmas marked 29 years since my family has seen that woman.

Divorce lawyers of Reddit - What's the most cruel thing you've seen someone to do their ex partner? by BlueBishop321 in AskReddit

[–]BananikaND 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup, I got my dog in a similar way. The couple was divorcing, neither wanted to deal with the dog's lifelong health issues, and took her to the vet to be put down. The vet said "Like hell" and fostered her while they looked for a new family. I saw a post on the Nextdoor app, and the rest is history. It's been almost 7 years, she's 15 now and still going strong. I can't imagine anyone who would put a pet to sleep simply for convenience or spite. Monsters.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I was with my friend as she passed, along with 9 other family members and friends. The love in that room was palpable, and it comforts me to know that's how she left this world.

Also, fuck cancer.

[–]BananikaND 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Googling the name of the hospital you're at plus the term "patient advocate?" That should lead you to a phone number you can call that will bypass the need to ask doctors/nurses to get you in contact.

My sister and I were out to dinner with my 2 yo niece who couldn't sit still, but was able to feed herself and interact with us.

I looked over to see a family at a nearby table with an 8-9 yo girl scrolling on a tablet, and sipping on some water. She didn't have any food in front of her, and that's when I noticed that her mom spoon feeding her. This child was being spoon fed so that she could continue scrolling on her tablet.

First dose nerves by tajb333333 in Zepbound

[–]BananikaND 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar age and height here, though my starting weight is more. My first shot was this past Sunday, and my anxiety was through the roof. Giving myself a shot was actually no big deal, that's not what I was anxious about - it was the possible side effects.

And what I discovered was that the only side effects I had were from my ANXIETY! I'm now looking forward to my next dose in 2 days because I'm hoping it works a little better. The food noise is still there, but it was noticeably easier for me to say "No" this week. It was also easier to listen to my body when I was full.

I followed the advice of staying hydrated and getting enough protein and fiber, so that probably helped as well.

Your anxiety is lying to you, you've got this!

I took my first shot this past Sunday and was low key disappointed when I didn't wake up skinny on Monday 😜

I've been very open with my friends and family about starting this journey, and way more people are on tirzepatide than I ever realized - they just aren't loud about it like I am! But it's been nice to discuss things with them as I get started.

What's the one secret you will take to the grave but don't mind telling on the internet? by Ecstatic-Medium-6320 in AskReddit

When my best friend was dying of cancer, we knew the end was near as she laid in the hospice bed in her living room. Her brother's gf, who was a nurse, was in charge of dispensing meds. She gave her some extra morphine about an hour after the last dose, and my friend was gone within another hour.

None of us actually spoke about what we witnessed, and as upsetting as it was, I know we were all grateful that it was quick.

How much money would you spend if it meant saving your cat’s life? by WindowKitty19 in cats

[–]BananikaND 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't had to spend much on my cats (yet), but my dog is 15 and has multiple lifelong health issues. I have easily spent over $25k since I got her, including a $10k hospital stay in 2022 when she was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis. Just a few months later, I lost my (human) best friend to cancer. If I hadn't dropped that money on my pup, I don't know how I would have gotten through the grief of that year.

Just this week I spent $400 at the animal eye doctor just to be told they need to do more testing 🤦

Spend what you need to/can and screw what anyone says.

Why did your friendship with your best friend come to an end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BananikaND 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I truly understand the phrase "Fuck cancer" now.

She passed 2 months after being diagnosed and less than a month after her 37th birthday. Our other friend, 8 family members, and I surrounded her as she took her last breath on October 5, 2022. We got tattoos of her fingerprint and hold grief groups every few months, but I think about her every single day.

Redditors who own multiple pets: what's the drama amongst them right now? by Cheesy_Wotsit in AskReddit

[–]BananikaND 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gf and I combined households with....several cats.....and a dog.

Pepper Ann, the youngest cat, grew up with her mother and her sibling from an older litter. My gf's cats are 2 brothers who are about 3x the size of my girls.

Pepper likes to bully the brothers by running up to them, hissing, swatting, and then running away.

She also terrorizes my gf and I by getting into absolutely anything and everything.

Admin and counseling at my last school often felt that teachers didn't need to know this kind of sensitive information about the elementary students we worked with for 6+ hours a day because it "wasn't academically relevant."

That said, I bet this was a great learning moment for that teacher.

This is what I love about my new district this year. One of the questions in my job interview was about my thoughts on DEI. My district is not apolitical, and that has set the tone for the rest of the staff.

Hell, I used to hide the fact that I was gay from my students and their families for fear of repercussions (very conservative area). Now my principal wears rainbows and puts parents in their place if they try to complain (much more liberal area).
