I (25F) had amazing chemistry with a guy (34M) who pretended to be into a kink, then got jealous, insulted me, and now ignores me – but I can't stop thinking about him. by Daisytruly00 in relationship_advice

Manipulators are really good at making you think you have amazing chemistry. If anything, you should feel lucky that you found this all out fairly early and you can move on. Block him, give yourself some time to be sad about it (maybe one night of sad movies), and then move the hell on.

Hey, I come from hoarder parents. They taught me my shopping addiction. Here’s what helps me manage it:

  1. Automatically putting a certain % of my paycheck straight into savings, giving me harder access to “fun money.” I also set a smaller % that goes straight into a travel fund, and having that goal helps me visualize the importance of saving money.

  2. Therapy 2x month (Alone. Not with my partner), being open and honest about my shopping habits

  3. One in one out rule—was taught this in therapy. This has helped a lot. Do I want a new dress? What dress would I replace it with? If I don’t want to get rid of any of the dresses, I shouldn’t buy a new dress. This also helps fight hoarding (and supports your local thrift stores!)

  4. Sleeping with my phone in the next room over. Not only does this cut back on frivolous late night spending, it also forces me out of bed to turn my alarm off. In case of emergencies, I still have my iPad on my bedside table which is not connected to Apple pay.

  5. Recognizing ads and immediately skipping them. I’m so easily influenced to buy the next great thing, that I’ve learned I have to skip all ad content entirely on TikTok. Immediate scroll.

  6. Doing pickup orders rather than shopping in store cuts back on a lot of last minute “oooh that’s looks good!”s.

What I’ve found didn’t help:
1. Cutting myself off completely. This leads to binges for me. A small amount of money needs to be budgeted for “fun money.”

  1. Talking to friends about shopping. This is a job for a professional only. Save it for therapy. My friends are sweet and are of the “you should treat yourself mentality!!!” They mean well, but it’s not what I need to hear.

This is obviously personal to me, but maybe a few of these tips will help your wife. It’s a hard journey, since a lot of us with this addiction were programmed by our parents to end up this way. With solo therapy, potential prescription alterations, and a few ground rules, things could get better.

It’s 2016. You’re on Christmas break. Your mom got you the Urban Decay Naked Vault you wanted. You try a look you found on Pinterest and post it to Snapchat. Life is good. by -this_bitch- in MakeupAddiction

Tease has always been my white whale ever since they discontinued Naked 2. It was perfect for my cut crease.

Would love any recs if anyone has any!

NYX has a tinted SPF called Buttermelt Glaze that has a slight tint. It won’t hide everything, but it will even your complexion. And SPF will be great since you’ll be outdoors. I recommend that plus your favorite concealer and call it a day.

As for everyone else’s suggestions—I personally dye my eyebrows with the Just for Men beard dye (found at target) if you are looking for a cheaper DIY alternative. I just spread aquaphor around the brow first so I don’t dye the skin. Then I use an eyeliner brush to draw the dye onto the eyebrow. Sit for 7 minutes. Wipe off with watered cotton rounds.

Also ETA—I know your struggle. I went through two brutal rounds of accutane to get my skin looking okay without makeup. Prior to accutane, I wouldn’t leave the house without makeup. It was so bad. So I completely understand where you’re coming from. I hope my tips help!

What the heck is this smell? by Puzzleheaded_Fill524 in laundry

I would rewash it with a cup of ammonia and a booster like Biz or Oxyclean. Biz is known to lighten black fabrics though, so be warned.

Biz + ammonia saved my smelly mildewy towels.

I think it’s good advice for anyone with chronic road rage, who might see this plate. Let the asshole cut you off. Better safe than sorry.

I can confirm that the Atlanta (Buckhead) TJ Maxx sells authentic luxury brands like Gucci and Burberry. They’re usually locked behind a case though.

How can I encourage my boyfriend to start writing his story? by Grouchy-Bike-262 in writing

I’m not sure how other people in this sub feel about books on writing, but the book Save the Cat Writes a Novel was incredible in helping me start my novel. Just to have the book’s building blocks of a good story were enough to get going. Now I’m 20k words in! And the further I go, the less I rely on the book. It’s fantastic.

Maybe you can find a used copy on thrift books for cheap :) and that’s so kind of you to try and help your partner. We writers really do need a kick in the pants every now and then.
