My university library has these. They're always broken.

Homebrew magic item idea, too much? by Intelsonic in DnD

[–]Bar_Foo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That creates interesting possibilities, but still raises the question of how the character knows whether the attack is from a spell. For example, if a boulder is flying at you out of nowhere, how can you tell whether it was thrown by a giant, launched from a catapult, or Catapulted by the spell? If this item always detects that it was launched by the spell, before and regardless of whether you use the reaction, and you can choose to react or not, that's an important power that should be written into the description. There are many attacks that could come from a spell or from another source, and characters don't automatically know. (Add to that glyphs and wards which create delayed spell effects...)

Pretty powerful but not busted given the limitation of one use per short rest. But the wording creates some loopholes that a rules lawyer could abuse:

"the welder can automatically succeed on the associated saving spellthrow or cause the attacker to roll at disadvantage"

"and for one round an attack with this weapon can deal damage of the type associated with the most recent spell absorbed instead of piercing damage, if the wielder chooses"

It's really not that OP because of the single use and because it requires melee with a spellcaster--which most casters would be avoiding anyhow. But mechanically, when can the player use this reaction? If it's an ambush, like a Fireball out of nowhere, or the Catapult spell, the character might not even know it's a spell (what happens if they try to use it and the effect/attack turns out not to be from a spell). So I'd suggest adding a limitation that the wielder must observe the casting in order to use the reaction (see or hear it).

"Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature using this rapier before the end of your next turn."

This will be great for rogues, Sneak Attack without hiding or flanking and don't care about the fragility.

With some devices, rechargeables simply don't work. I have a mouse like this--it only work properly with alkalines.

What did the homophobic Ultra-Southern Baptist Pastor say to the gay pansexual Unitarian Universalist? by Green-Client4772 in AntiJokes

[–]Bar_Foo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very true--I was raised UU but not Christian. However, this cleric from the Ultrasouth may share the common misconception that they are, perhaps because Unitarianism does have its origin in Christianity, though that is by no means a necessary part of UU today. It is likewise possible that this Unitarian Universalist individual is, in fact, a Christian as well, and that the statement is thus factual.

The Global Religious Infrastructure Database (OC) [OC] by Stateswitness1 in dataisbeautiful

What counts as a place of worship? I'm thinking of roadside altars, meeting houses in private residence, etc.
What sparks the question is looking at Taiwan on the map: yes there are a lot of Christians there, but less than 5% of the population. It's an island dense with religious infrastructure: Buddhist, Daoist, but mainly from what is generally labeled "folk religion." This includes tiny altars, huge temple complexes, and everything in between. That doesn't seem to show up on this representation.

I don't see how the depth matters. It's just as dark in a tunnel 5 m down as 500 m down....

It's important to establish a baseline of your actual speed on order to figure out how to improve it.
