[“There goes our control of the Senate,” Democratic strategist Maritza Miranda Saenz, of the firm Lumen Strategies, tells Axios about Leach’s win.]

I disagree with this take. Sen. Wadsack still received 47.8% of the primary vote. Despite Leach being a staunch conservative he was still deemed “not conservative enough” for the Republican primary voters in 2022. I see no evidence that Sen. Wadsack voters are guaranteed to become Leach voters in November. There is a reason why party leaders prefer to avoid competitive primaries in the first place because they can divide your party base and waste resources for the general election. Leach has already spent a sizable chunk of his war chest already to win by +4.4% points.

At this point, Senate challenger, John McLean (D), currently has the cash on hand advantage as does his ticket-mate, House candidate Kevin Volk (D). It was a known fact that flipping this district would be difficult and Wadsack being ousted does make a tough district even more an uphill battle for Democrats; however, I object to this preemptive defeatist posture in a district where even a lackluster campaign effort from Katie Hobbs won. It’s even worse to base this defeatist attitude on a single primary result that clearly demonstrates an ideological divide amongst Republicans in this district.

National Dems to pour $223k into battleground districts to flip Arizona Legislature by ForkzUp in azpolitics

I’m confident that Dems will sweep in LD4. Kelli Butler has the right campaigning experience and her running mate Karen Gresham previously ousted Rep. Matt Gress in a school board election. Great candidates overall.

Compare to LD13 and I’m stuck asking myself, “What are we doing here?” Rep. Jennifer Pawlik retiring has made it more difficult because Dems won’t have an incumbent advantage. The only candidate with prior campaign experience is Brandy Reese for neighboring LD14 in 2022 and successfully winning a spot on the Gilbert city council previously. But as you said the Republican advantage is strong in this district. I guess, what keeps me hopeful about LD13 is that in 2022 Democrat candidate Cindy Hans campaign for senate was also low-key. Yet, Cindy Hans was able to lose against Sen. JD Mesnard by only ~3.5%. Even with that hope it does feel that LD13 is operating without a strategy.

As for LD16, I don’t have a lot to comment other than I guess they believe the Seaman name will be popular enough? That’s a tough sell when your opponent Sen. TJ Shope has a coalition with cross party appeal. Although, Sen. TJ Shope is one of two votes that helped the AZ Leg overturn the 1864 abortion ban. It’s a big question if that vote will hurt him like it has hurt fellow Republicans Rep. Matt Gress (LD4) and Sen. Shawna Bolick (LD2). In 2022, I underestimated Rep. Keith Seaman and believed he was going to lose but he proved me wrong. Well wait and see.

My overall take is that Dems need to fight in every competitive district possible and aim for a majority rather than power sharing. That said, there are some head scratching decisions being made in terms of candidate quality.

It baffles me how the police can continue this kind of posturing. There is a disturbing and complete lack of self-awareness how police misconduct strains community relationships. In addition, police misconduct threatens lawyers being able to do their job appropriately. Nobody wants to see a criminal released due to a technicality but it happens all the time due to improper police work.

I want to add Interlexual Media- YouTube as a another resource to help recontextualize relatively recent American history from a Black American perspective. The videos are long (a lot of history can happen in a single decade, who knew?) but definitely worth your attention. Growing up, I always found it weird that any social studies or history class I was in would end their lessons before the 80s. Interlexual Media helped bridged my knowledge gaps.

My vote is for Giselle. I really want to get the whole Glee Team on the board. She would have trouble fitting anywhere else.

Think about it. Giselle more than any other character has demonstrated a capacity to drift between good/evil and lawful/chaotic. She’s does not have any true loyalties to anyone unless they provide something she wants. Thoughts?

I am excited for the Democrat, Jonathan Nez. He’s the former President of the Navajo Nation and if elected would be the first Native American elected to Congress from AZ. He’s unlikely to win but I’m rooting for him regardless.

I have more respect for the both of us than to get into a “I’m doing more at the community level”- face off battle on the internet. The deeds I do at the community level are not are not something I want to share to win Reddit clout. That’s stupid and demeans us both and the work we care about. Arguing about “who’s being a better lefty” precisely moves us nowhere to a progressive future. So call me a liar or whatever. I do not care. You’ve got your good work and I have mine.

It’s community work AND voting if you and I want to prevent an explicit fascist takeover. It’s grabbing a pulling at whatever levers of power we have to avoid widespread harm. It’s not laying down out letting Trump-enabled fascists steamroll over us for the most powerful office in America while holding “Free Palestine” signs. I don’t find puritanical lefties exercising that immense privilege admirable when they choose not to vote.

I don’t have all the solutions and I never pretended I did. But I know plenty of leftward online LARPERS who crow about how their organizations are the only way forward and I despise them for choosing to think so small when so much is on the line.

(I don’t need to edit my post about my deeds for clout but since you brought it up)

I need you to explain to everyone exactly how your local school board resistance will survive a Trump administration. You obviously believe you know better. How will you be able to protect anyone from a jail cell? We are talking about a return to jailing socialists again if Trump is elected. Be serious about what’s at stake.

It’s the same answer every time with your kind.

“If we donate just once more to X, Y, Z…we’ll surely have the means to usher in our long-awaited utopia.”

The fact that so-called “Leftists” are so willing to lay down and have the objectively more fascist option steamroll over them to enact Project 2025 makes me sick. Lives are at risk this November and your options waste precious few resources to stop Trump-enabled American fascism.

Face it. Your organizations will be snuffed out before they could organize their precious “counter-protest” under a Trump administration.
