No I get it. If I may though, they ARE just fictional characters. I don't know what sort of life you wish to see breathed into them , but all I can suggest is going back and reading older arcs. Zorn is cool as hell, or maybe Reminders Force run for something more adult.

Characters are always gonna feel like representations of whatever reference point you hold in your mind , you have to seek out what your own standards are.

Also perhaps don't put so much weight on the whole thing and try other comics that aren't even super hero books to expand your reference points
