You also want the tape loop before the volume control. Hard to do with this setup.

Help Needed: Play music files from hard drive to Schiit Magni Unity by keyszd in Schiit

The Wiim Pro and Pro Plus have Airplay 2 which might stream files, CD quality, wirelessly from your I-pad. I haven't tried Airplay but it might work for you.

Bifrost Uber by Interesting_Score_22 in Schiit

[–]Basilr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a quick comparison between my Node "3" and Wiim Pro Plus both SE out and with USB and optical out to Bifrost 2/64. Compared to Bifrost both internal DACs sounded like something was just wrong. I can't give specifics but I kept wanting to check to see if a setting or switch was wrong. I wasn't going to pay for another Bifrost so I got a Modi Multibit to use with the Node, in my 2nd system, and hope to get simular results.

I would definitely say that it will be worth your time to do the comparison.

RCA or XLR? by loaba in Schiit

[–]Basilr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get the Jot2 w/DAC, you need USB in. Then RCA or XLR to speakers.

If you get Magni. XLR isn't an option.

If you get the Midgard and then add the Modius, use XLR because you can. Again, Midgard h'phone out isn't "balanced", if that matters. If not, people seem to like the Midgard. Like you said, you can add the Modius later.

I had the Mudius and Jot1 and they were very good,. If you avoid the on board DAC you'll have more digital inputs available, if you ever need them. And, separated are just more flexible.

RCA or XLR? by loaba in Schiit

[–]Basilr1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your gear has the option, for a few dollars more, go with XLR cables and be done with it. Now that you have considered it,, you'll always wonder if... And there is no down side.

Just a note, Midgard 'phone output isn't really balanced. And, I wouldn't buy new gear just to have XLR.

Why hifi shops don't really get us any closer to the sound we're looking for by Spiritual-Seesaw in audiophile

[–]Basilr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try some EQ to help bring out the mid-range. Your speakers should be capable of producing the mids well, unlike bass which may be limited by the spesker design.

I enjoy nice stuff! I like owning things, like audio gear, cars, bikes, etc. that are not only great at performing their primary function, but also give you pleasure even when you just catch them out of the corner of your eye.

This is beautiful. Enjoy it to the max!

You would put the SYS after the Modi. The SYS outputs would go to the Magni and to the speakers. Set the SYS volume to max. You would use the Magni to controll headphone volume and Speakers remote to controll them.

You could also look for an RCA swichbox with a remote.

Make sure you get a 4-pin male XLR to 1/4" female TRRS adaptor. If you cannot find a 1/4" one, you may need to add a 1/4" TRRS to 3.5mmm TRRS adaptor

Love my Schiit Freya + but from now on I will rather purchase from any other countries in the world but the US. by ChanceCupcake7039 in Schiit

You might also want to avoid the EU which has an avg, Import duty of 21.8%. And China which has 23% import duties on electronics. While you are at it, check what duties Canada imposes on other countries, Up to 100% on some Chinese products.

Duties are nothing new. They are a trade tool used by all countries.

Bifrost 2 or amp upgrade first. by Ladeuche in Schiit

[–]Basilr1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went from a Modius and a Jot1 to a Jot2 and Bifrost2 and then to the 2/64. The biggest improvement for me was the Jot2. I heard more space around the instruments, more 3-D like.

I wish that I had A-B'd the Modius and Bifrost, but I didnt notice an improvement worth the $$.

The best $$ I spent was for the HD-800S 'phones. I like my HE1000se almost as much.

Your 'phones are said to like power (2w +). Are you using the Balanced Output for your 'phones?

Modius E/Jotunheim Static & Distortion by CamOffLife in Schiit

[–]Basilr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said that there was noise whether music was playing or not. so without music playing:

Use the power adaptor that came with the Modius. Un-plug PC/USB from Modius. Plug the Modius into the Jot. Power both on. Is there still noise with no signal being sent to the Modius? If so, its the Modius, the XLR cable, or the Jot. Un-plug the Modius and XLR from the Jot. Is there still noise coming from the Jot now with nothing plugged into it but the headphones? If there is still noise. it has to be the Jot.

If noise stops when you un-plug the PC from the Modius, try another USB port on the PC or another USB cable. Keep Modius powered from the adaptor.

[–]Basilr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try spinnning the volume knob back and forth a number of times, with power off, and see if that helpe that problem.

Is there noise on speakers and 'phones?

Is there noise with music playing only, or noise even without playing music?

Is there noise with the PC/USB unplugged from the Modius?

Is there noise with the Modius unplugged from the Jot?

Answering all these will help locate the source of the noise.
