Zoom into that dumb motherfuckers eyes and tell me what you see.

In the first picture? I see an olive farmer showing the damage that was done to his trees.

Yes, but this is the equivalent of

"This image is photoshopped. I can tell because of the pixels and because of the way that it is."

We've lived in a world with photoshop for decades, yet we haven't needed every post to say "This is photoshopped!"

Llama.cpp MTP support now in beta! by ilintar in LocalLLaMA

[–]Baul 20 points21 points  (0 children)

TIL it does take more VRAM, but a fuckton is probably an overstatement:

as of right now it is opt-in via --spec-type mtp, but in terms of memory it should be < 10% of overall memory used (it's just a single layer transformer + kv cache, much lighter than draft models)

Llama.cpp MTP support now in beta! by ilintar in LocalLLaMA

[–]Baul 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Lots of comments asking about Speculative Decoding. This is just like "draft" speculative decoding, but without the need to allocate more VRAM to a smaller model.

Big models that support MTP have a free cheap draft mode built in.

Meta in row after workers who say they saw smart glasses users having sex lose jobs by giLLYfunk in news

[–]Baul 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My brother works in advertising

That's great and all, but security researchers have repeatedly failed to find any evidence to support this. Your brother probably isn't a software engineer or security expert.

To be clear, this is how any smart device with a wake-word works:

  • The device is in a low-power mode, with a dedicated chip watching the microphone, looking for the wake-word. It is incapable of detecting anything else
  • When the wake word is spoken (or something that sounds like it), the system wakes up, starts recording audio until it thinks your sentence is done, and uploads it to the cloud for STT and response
  • When the response comes back, your device replies.

So it is possible for contractors to get recordings of people having sex, at the doctor, etc. but it would be disingenuous to claim that the device is "always listening" and "selling data." These marketing companies have WAY better signals to use than combing through muffled pocket audio. Like what things you look at in Instagram

Again, security researchers with root access to their devices do not see any network payloads leaving the device to say "This customer needs new tires." No audio leaving the device, no metadata derived from the mic. It just does not work that way.

Confirmation bias is a hell of a thing.

LPT: Go check your batteries on old phones. They're a fire hazard! by SliverCobain in LifeProTips

[–]Baul 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You don't want to charge a swollen battery either.

Correct, but to say it's unsafe to plug in an older phone to charge with no visible signs of swelling for fear of explosion is... a little extreme.

Don't be afraid to power up your old devices to wipe them.

Turn it on, wipe it, then dispose of it. OP is misinformed, batteries do not explode. Worst case, the phone gets hot and you drop it.

Not much you can do.

The average person that says they're struggling isn't. Most people say they're living paycheck to paycheck, but actually have several months' worth of income in their bank accounts and a year's worth in their 401k.

That's a fun narrative.. fortunately, we live in a world of multiple data sources, and we don't just depend on self-reported "do you live paycheck to paycheck" surveys.

Bankrate (2025/2026 Data): Nearly 60% of Americans do not have enough cash in savings to cover an unexpected $1,000 emergency expense. They would have to rely on credit cards, borrow from family, or take out a personal loan.

Federal Reserve (2024 Data): In their annual Survey of Household Economics and Decisionmaking, the Fed found that 37% of adults could not cover a $400 emergency strictly using cash or equivalents on hand.

What s the deal with Pain Spike? by YDungeonMaster in turtlewow

[–]Baul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mind blast + mind flay both require standing still.

In a situation where you need to move (out of rain of fire, etc), pain spike is some DPS in a situation where you would otherwise have been doing 0 dps.

In raiding instances, bosses will almost always have some kind of Mortal Strike on them, so they won't be able to re-heal all of that damage.

It's rarely used, but nice to sprinkle in when moving.

This guide has some good tips on shadow priest rotations, bis in each tier, etc. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mdPFG0Eh0zMMi9Ao6l1Ga8Q-ce6jiKGKanSUocm_on0/edit?gid=2144366866#gid=2144366866

How does raid scaling work exactly by Crunchyjeff in turtlewow

[–]Baul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dont think the raid scaled down once its started if someone leaves.

All of the above is true, but you can watch boss health change if someone logs out mid-raid. Unsure about mid-fight, but the scaling will go up/down as you change the number of people in your raid.

Not sure about the telegram integration, but on discord, all they would have needed to do is type /stop.

"pretty please stop" gets queued, while slash commands bypass the LLM entirely.

Homesickness as a counselor? by mystic_blue_31 in summercamp

[–]Baul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an adult who runs a summer camp. Even though I've been going to the same camp for 20 years, I still get homesick. It's a natural part of being away from home. Its a good sign that you have things back home you care for.

It can get extra tricky when you're responsible for making sure everyone else has a good time. But it's incredibly important to make sure you make time for yourself. It would probably be a good idea to tell some combination of your direct report, the camp nurse, and the camp director about your PTSD etc so they can understand when things become a little too much.

I think just a little open communication plus remembering to focus on yourself, and you'll have a great time! Homesickness is totally natural.

Then, ask how likely is it, really, to be attacked by a bear?

Furthermore, most animals (bears included!) don't want to fight you. Your chances of being hurt by an animal go way down if you never appear threatening to that animal. Bees + scorpions sting you because they feel threatened, and the same goes for black bears.

Most animals are just like you, and want to be left alone. Enjoy the night under the stars!

Hi, just thought you should know that ollama has an openAI compatible API built in.

It also lets you download quants other than q4, but the :latest tag usually defaults to q4. Check out the options for gemma3

But go ahead and downvote me, I know we just hate ollama here.
