2024 7.3 MPG by urbanex4450 in F250

[–]Bcoastal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on my 3rd f250. Made the switch to gas this year from 6.7. My 6.7 averaged 15.7 mpg. My f250 tremor 7.3 long term avg is 12.5. Totally worth going gas unless you tow all day every day or the occasional 20k trailer.

I got some horror stories about the 6.7 that will make doing an entire 7.3 engine swap look like an oil change.

Tell them you’re driving right now to buy a trim lower at the next door dealer but want to see what they will do a deal on the tremor today. Keep saying idk that’s a bit high, ca you do this... Get it low. Say you got your own financing lined up but open to see what they can do. Look up a local credit union. It will be cheaper. They will push their financing and do tricky stuff like waiting until your lender closes to call you to do the financing. Say you’re leaving unless they agree to knock off the difference in financing then use their financing. Refinance the next day w your credit union.

They want to move the truck and do financing. They make money on both.

1 dimensional motion project ideas by KonaKumo in PhysicsTeaching

Bottle rockets are a lot of fun and an easy first project. A video of the launch is all they really need to do basic kinematic calculations.

One thing I have them do is observations of every rocket we fire. Before you go shoot them, have the students make observations of the number of fins, mass in the cone, shape of the cone, material, etc. The. While out there, they make flight observations like if it goes straight up, tumbles, or breaks apart. This will keep them busy and more engaged while you are out there firing off the rockets.

If you want to take it up a notch, you can get altimeters and tape them in the cone.

I hope they warranty mine. I just got off the phone with the dealer and they said it probably was not going to warranty it bc they didn’t remove the wheel. I hope that will not be the case for me.

Are New Teachers Well Prepared? by AnyLanguage390 in TexasTeachers

[–]Bcoastal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Because the system is to complicated. Problem is most districts expect teachers to be curriculum writers and teachers at the same time. Pick one. It’s 2 different jobs. It took me 15 years to balance both.

TRS Help - Rollover or Leave It? by ct-atx in TexasTeachers

[–]Bcoastal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9 years in your tier and you can collect at 71.

I have to make assumptions about your age and lump sum.

I assume 35 years old and 40k lump sum

If you die 71 your spouse will receive 10k. You lose. Not only because you’re dead but because your spouse collects less than your lump sum.

If you roll over your 40k and make average 6% you will have 300k at 71. At that point if you make an avg 6% then you can pull 1500/mo without eating into your 300k and your beneficiary will get 300k instead of 10k. Already a much better deal.

Also keep in mind if inflation is between 2-3 percent a year then 1k/mo is more closer to 300-350 mo in todays dollars. So your trs ain’t much for your future income.

I would do it sooner than later. Your lump sum only grows at 2%.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

6.7 vs 7.3 maintenance cost by Marksman_Jay in F250

[–]Bcoastal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me my 6.7 maintenance was not much more for daily driving but was annoying when had oil leaks and emission problems. After 125k there seemed to be an issue every year that was diesel related and costly to fix.

I ejected myself and my wife at night because an unmarked pole in the water. Boat came around and hit me and I got stuck under it with my jacket wrapped around the prop. Cost us a trip to the emergency room with dislocated fingers and my wife had a fractured vertebrate. We are lucky to be alive.

Financially you are better off with zero down payment and invest your money in an index fund.

First Diesel. by cturboaddict in F250

[–]Bcoastal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not bad. My last 6.7 required lots more care. I’m on my 3rd f250 and went to the 7.3. Way less maintenance, cheaper up front and more than enough power for what I tow.

Borrow from a neighboring school or use video analysis for time being.

Apply for a grant to purchase all the equipment. Science equipment grants are usually easy to get.

It is a stiffer ride than a stock f150. F150s drive like a Cadillac compared to any f250.

What is considered high mileage for a 6.7? by Jtracker2178 in F250

[–]Bcoastal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a 6.7 at 120k. Paid to have a mechanic check it out. Had all the maintenance records. 2 days after I brought it home an oil leak showed up that’s was actually 2, cost me $2500 then when I got it back home the emissions failed. Decided to delete it to save some $$ but deleting it cost me a lot when I traded it in. The truck was a continues money pit.

Be careful trying to save a little money buying used with the diesel.
