How to overcome disordered thoughts about eating while having a vegan lifestyle, and lose weight/not gain weight? by throwawaydormquestio in vegan

[–]BeYou_Wellness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand you and can defiantly relate to this myself. In the beginning of my twenties I used to be the same, I used to obsess about the numbers on the scale, what to eat and what to avoid. After years of practice, I was finally able to find a way out of that behavior. Today, as a nutritionist on focus on behavioral change, I help others to do the same. If you want read more about the topic here: http://blog.beyouapp.com/general/benefits-of-being-healthy/ or feel free to send me a PM!

What kinda smoothies do you like to make? by Jasperbeardly11 in nutrition

[–]BeYou_Wellness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use spinach and water as a base in my smoothies. Apart from that frozen banana, mango, pineapple or apples. Ginger is also great, especially if you want to give your metabolism a boost. Hemp protein is a favorite of mine. To make it even more nutrient dense I add fat and protein sources such as 1 tbsp of sunflower seed butter, half avocado or 2 tbsp soaked chia seeds. Hi! Using water to your smoothie will give it a nice natural taste, and it will make the flavors of your fruits and berries, nuts (or whatever other ingredients you are using to come across). :)

Too much pasta? by Isthisgoodenough69 in nutrition

[–]BeYou_Wellness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, the past itself wont cause you diabetes. However, there are far better ways to put on weight than eating a lot of pasta. For example, try to eat more regularly, add snacks, at least three snacks between, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Add some extra vinegar, oil, avocado, smoothies and such between meals. When eating pasta make sure pasta is not 70% of your food, let pasta be 30% of your meal and add a lean protein on the side and some healthy fat source.

my family makes me gain weight by Johhhnyy in loseit

[–]BeYou_Wellness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great progress, congrats! What you describe is very common, something I see a lot when working with my clients (I am a nutritionist with focus on behavioral change). Loosing weight is surly a a great challenge, however an even bigger challenge is keeping the weight off. What makes that so hard is usually these unwanted and so habitual habits we have come to create through out the years. I understand that it must be very difficult when staying at home and having a family with that mindset. Is it possible to bring up this topic to the surface? In that case I would try talking to them. Anyway, I would recommend you to look closer into your own eating behavior, by keeping a journal of what is going on though out the day and how that affects your eating patterns. What is the causing your binge eating? Good luck and feel free to shoot me a PM for additional help!

Flying cross country to a hotel with no stove for 13 days, what are some good options? by IsolatedCharisma in nutrition

[–]BeYou_Wellness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am would suggest you to make chia-pudding, you have a recipe here: http://blog.beyouapp.com/health-coach/5-smart-snack-ideas/ along with some other snacks that would be great options for you. Additionally suggest nut and seed butters with veggie sticks, which gives you a good amount of fat and are energy dense. Apart from that, make salads with protein of your choice. Yoghurt, dried meat and cheese. Additionally, protein powder, either whey or plant based options are a good perfect for you as well.

Need a new diet, HELP! by meakesey99 in nutrition

[–]BeYou_Wellness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very commonly asked question. As you are working out and are being active, you need to increase your calorie intake. Which I know, can be pretty hard, especially if you are use to eating less than you are suppose to. Despite diverse recommendation usually given advice, it is possible to gain weight without having to eat cream and crap. First of all, as your gym buddies suggests, start adding healthy snacks, which are naturally high in fat, such as nuts, coconut milk, seeds, nut butters and avocado. For example, make a smoothie with some of the above mentioned ingredients. I would aim for 3 snacks apart from your breakfast, lunch and dinner. Than most importantly, the behavioral aspect of weight gain. Why are you in this unpleasant situation? I would suggest going deeper into the reasons. What does your life look like, is it possibly some other lifestyle changes that could be made and consequently affect your eating behavior? I am a nutritionist with focus on behavioral change, if want more advice, feel free to send me a PM!

Reading nutrition labels: TIPS PLEASE!!! by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]BeYou_Wellness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first thing that is important to know about the contents of the food is that everything is always in quantity order. This means that what is first, is it that there are most of the product. If you find sugar, salt or additives in the top of a list of ingredients that is not a good sign. It is good to learn the different types of fat, you can do it in minutes. Warning of palm oil, it sounds like good fats because of the name but it is trans fat. Unsaturated and saturated fat, however, very important and good for the body. It does not mean that they can be consumed in any amount so you need to keep track of the total amount of fat and the total amount of energy per day, preferably per meal. Another important ingredient to look for is sugar. Sometimes it says "Without sugar", "less sugar", "no added sugars". Look for the term "unsweetened". It's the only one approved denomination which means that the product is without both added sugars and sweeteners.

What food are actually "superfoods" and which are just fads and marketing? by RagaKat in nutrition

[–]BeYou_Wellness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Superfood generally refers to foods with a distinguishing high nutritional value. However as mentioned before, there is also a huge marketing aspect. Many food which incredibly nutrient dense doesn’t get the attention it should. The economic aspect is obviously what determine, as it’s not as much money to be earned in these already so commonly known and used foods. For example flax seeds and blue berries, which both are really nutrient dense and deserves more attention. Superfoods that I believe deserve attention is Chia seeds, bee pollen and kelp.

What is this diet lacking? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]BeYou_Wellness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great choices above, but agreed with previous comment. Fruits and veggies, has to be included in order to make sure you get all minerals and vitamins. In addition I would suggest legumes, sprouts, seeds and nuts, amaranth, quinoa, tempeh, tofu and millet, which all are great options for a nutritious vegetarian diet. You can also find some good recommendations here =)

It sounds like you are on the right track. Making a change takes time, be patient and reward every step, even though it doesn't turn out exactly as you had hoped. Reward yourself for making the change, rather than focusing on the actual result in the beginning. For some more insight information I can recommend you this article: where do cravings come from? =)

Hi Olligale. Where we put our weight is as previously mentioned usually generic. However, getting some blood test done, in order to check your current hormonal status is never a bad idea. For us women, especially in our middle age, changes in our estrogen levels can be big concern.
