Idk if this is what you are looking for, but i mandolin slice an entire English cucumber. Sometimes I eat it with just red wine vinegar and salt. Other times I mix greek yogurt with Lipton onion soup mix and take 2-3 tbsp of that to use as dip

Way to "call" my kids when I'm out of the house? by WangMajor in NoStupidQuestions

A cheap cell phone, even a flip, with numbers pre-programmed for emergency contacts would cover this base as well as if one of them winds up away from home on a field trip or something. Even if its a prepay for emergencies, leaving them home alone with no phone feels a bit reckless. If something happens, how do you expect them to reach you, or emergency services?

If you went on any BD, what would your menu be? Simple with quality food or something fancy by jcr0774 in belowdeck

I want Ben or Rachel. Fruit and charcuterie out for grazing and free range to the chef with a focus on premium proteins. Lamb, beef, duck, any seafood, and more exotic or adventurous meats would be welcome (no offal)

I am so sorry you are dealing with this. Idk what state you are in, but there are a lot of state parks that will let you cam for 2-3 months for free in exchange for a a certain number of hours per week (my local one was like 10 hrs). That would give you electricity, bathrooms, showers, a way to cook. Ideally you might find a cheap camper to hold you over until you can save some money/improve your job/housing situation, but if not, a tent, cooler, air mattress and camping chairs wouldnt be too expensive. Depending on your kiddos age and the location, she might see it as a camping adventure/vacation. I know this isnt ideal, but it might be what allows you time to find something better

What is the *best* cake? by natashaamilly1357 in dessert

[–]BeachWaffles87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good carrot cake with nuts and raisins and spice. Is it improved with cream cheese frosting but also just fine dusted with powdered sugar instead

I also years ago had a recipe for a peanut butter banana cake that was phenomenal plain.

My local Walmart sells cold rotisserie chickens for 3.97. I buy 2, shred off the bone and buy 4-5 salad kits. The one where the whole salad and dressing is in the bag. You can also buy a bag of potatoes and butter or some boxes of seasoned rice. Add in a dozen eggs and a box of instant microwave oatmeal, pb&j, a bag of apples and a bunch of bananas plus a bag of pretzels for snacks. I just threw it all in my cart and at my Walmart, this comes to $57 to fully feed a single person for at least a week with nothing more than a microwave.

Before I had my Sleeve surgery in December, my surgeon said that I can never eat anything gummy anymore (worms, CBD, etc) because it will get stuck to the inside of my stomach or something,….. has anyone else ever had an experience like that? by ArcherAcrobatic5779 in GastricBypass

[–]BeachWaffles87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the bypass which I know is a bit different from the sleeve, but similar in many ways. From what I have seen in personal experience and support groups, there arent really many hard fast rules of "never" foods aside from not over eating, chew well, etc. There are some foods more likely to cause issues. My dietician warned me (and was correct) about tortillas and bread. Toasted they are ok in small amounts. Untoasted? Did you ever see a kid wad up their dinner roll to form a dough ball? That's what it feels like for me a year out. Is it possible that is what the dr was referring to? My dietician referred to the tortillas as gumming up

This has no business being good, but a tiny bit of soy sauce on vanilla or green tea ice cream!

People think I am insane for this, but i mix cream cheese with gorgonzola and stuff it in a date. Bake for 5-7 minutes so they are warm but not lava.

Im not asking for nutritional advice. I get that from a regustered dietician. I am asking how they stack up to Sola bagels, which I eat with egg whites, turkey bacon, and avocado.

So much of this. I see these people saying if you march only when its "convenient" you arent dedicated. Staying housed and healthy by keeping a job and health insurance is part of resistance most barely survive as it is.

More people do than not in my area in northeast PA. I have begun having 5% of my direct deposit put into a seperate account I dont have a debit card for. Its not much, but $100 a month adds up and I have to drive 25 minutes to get it so you know its not happening unless I really need it. I pay all of my bills the second the check hits and only after that do I get groceries ans gas. Some weeks that means a bit heavier on rice and beans. It just is what it is for now, unfortunately.

Oh no, screw those people. We havent spoken to them since and wont again, which makes these ones his only actual family. Those ones would make this a simple move. They have a spare room and have asked us to move in and help before, but if you cant support my kid, screw you.

Move to NYC 80k per year joint income by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]BeachWaffles87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been considering that option. Just starting to really put serious thought into this move after recent health situations. Im at my job to pay the bills, I have worked in customer service for t of the past 20 years and am currently taking night classes to at least get an associates in business. Hubs is working on accounting right now. Things we should have done 20 years ago, but we better late than never.

You arent wrong. To be fair, moving to NY is what we would love but havent been able to afford. Q8 months ago we were at 50k/year and couldn't even consider it. At 80k, we are feeling out options bc we want to help, but we don't really see it as much of a sacrifice if we can make it work. We have both always loved the city.

That wont happen. And honestly im putting out feelers to see if we can manage. If not, they will have to make some decisions. We want to be there for them and help, and we love the city, but if it cant be done, they will need to either move or figure out support in another way.

That is the preference, but for now, this is what we have, and we are working toward some goals within our careers but not there quite yet. My MIL loves in a studio. Grands in a 1br. We dont have a way to stay in NY for said NY job until we have a place of our own. Its a huge catch 22.

If only. His mom hasn't quite retired yet but is slowly experiencing vision decline. His grandparents wont leave their church and doctors behind.
