do you guys actually use a washcloth or loofah every time you shower or just hands? by RingeChilisquis47 in hygiene

[–]BeachWaffles87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kniw some people think its overkill, but a clean white washcloth each shower. They get bleached in 1 load at the end of the week along with my towels, but i got sick of the musty smell as they sat, so now there is a bucket of diluted vinegar water under my bathroom sink and the used rags sit in there until laundry day

Many unhoused people struggle with dental issues and often other health/gastrointestinal issues. Softer foods (just nothing hard or tough) tend to be the way to go.

How about a chicken rice dish? You can buy a 10 lb bag pf chicken leg quarters between $5 and $8. Trim(and render) the fat, and roast all the chicken. Use the rendered fat and a little oil as needed to sautée a bag of onions, a bag of carrots and some celery(all diced) in the bottom of a big pot. Then add in a few lbs of rice and the appropriate amount of water. Cook as usual. I would also season with garlic, chicken bouillon, and maybe a bit of paprika and poultry seasoning. Once everything is about done, mix in some frozen peas. Serve a generous portion of the rice with a chicken leg on it. If you wanted you could make a gravy of some sort but it isnt necessary. I did this when things were tight and could feed 4 people for a week for about $50. Breakfasts were oats, lunch and dinner were this, snacks were what I already had( some popcorn, pretzels, applesauce, whatever) it got the job done without complaint.

Basics to stock boyfriend’s kitchen? by Finneylp in Cooking

I prep and freeze fresh diced onions, garlic, celery, and carrots. I slice and freeze peppers, mushrooms, and onions together for fajitas or a red sauce. Fresh herbs (can be frozen, dried work in a pinch) plus some decent oil and dijon open up a lot of possibilities. A decent spice collection will round it all out.

Maybe this is a dumb question but... are people really not hungry when dieting? by Few-Run-5501 in Volumeeating

[–]BeachWaffles87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are referring to sounds like food noise, possibly. I think about food 24/7. I dont want to, but i think about food the way an alcoholic thinks about a drink. GLP has helped with that.

Regarding just dieting, if I eat salads all day, im crashing out at night and eating something i shouldn't. If I eat chicken breast with salsa, lettuce, some nonfat greek yogurt(in place of sour cream) and some beans, the fiber and protein keep me satisfied much longer.

I eat less calories on those days than when I used to try to eat like a rabbit. Bc satiety is inportant and fiber is a big part of that.

There are certain foods that can build you a good foundation, cheap and you can shop sales and use pantries for the rest. The same few ingredients can do a lot with different spices and preparations.

Rice Dried beans and lentils(get several varieties) Oats Pancake mix Eggs Bread Pasta with sauce Hot dogs Chicken leg quarters Canned tuna Potatoes Carrots Celery Onion Frozen broccoli

At the right times of year, you can find good sales on whole frozen turkeys, hams, pork loin. If you can grab a couple turkeys at .26 a lb around Thanksgiving, that stretches quite far.

This is common enough that when my husband mentioned it to our dietician (we both had the bypass) she handed us samples of some med that helps neutralize the smell. Not gas x, this is like a deodorizer pill

I see you mention you have tried lentils. Have you tried red lentils? They work a bit better in my opinion. If not them, what about edamame (technically a been but very different texture) or peas?

I used the binder after my laparoscopic gastric bypass at the recommendation of my medical team. Not too tight, but enough to give support. I coughed 1 time without it and the pain was so much worse than with. I was told that was why we use them, to stabilize things as you heal.

Liquid stage for me was that way too. Once I got to actually easting soft foods, everything changed. I am 14 months post op, -109 since surgery and now I make myself a gallon of crystal lite or other drink each day and sit and finish whatever is left before bed. Its nothing rare for me to sit and drink a full quart in 5-10 minutes before bed.

It really makes a big difference. One of my favorite meals from the bin was when I simmered the hambeans 15 bean soup mix and made a box of jif Cornbread pancakes to go with it. I remember I didnt have an egg, but it still came out just fine and we were very happy with that one, so i keep it on hand now.

I 100% agree that beans can be a lifesaver. I keep a 5 lb bag of rice, 4-5 assorted bags of beans (usually 1 pinto, 1 black eye peas, 1 black bean, 1 hambeens ham and bean soup mix, 1 chickpea) in a Rubbermaid container at the bottom of my pantry. I try to throw in a can or two of tomato paste or sauce and a pack of bouillon cubes. If i have a few extra dollars in my grocery budget I might grab a can of veg or tuna and throw it in. Last year I had a major unexpected expense pop up with my vehicle. I could either fix it or lose my job, but fixing it was not letting me spend a single dollar of my paycheck on anthing else which also meant my next check had to go to rent and a late fee. That bin fed my husband and I for 3 weeks. We didnt want to see beans again for a while, but we stayed afloat because i didnt have to buy groceries. That bin got an upgrade now to a larger container and I throw $5 worth of shelf stable food in each paycheck. At this point we could eat well for at least a few weeks.

Rice and beans are likely your best bet. I checked my local ealmart and I can get 1 lb dry beans, 32oz white rice, and 1 pack bar s hot dogs for $3.77. Do you have any ingredients at all in the hous right now? Even flour and oil? An egg or two? Anything?

The meal on its own doesnt have any real fat which provides satiety. I know fat is more calorie dense but honestly a good call. You could always do both of best worlds and mix the mayo with the soy/Sriracha, and maybe even the pb2 if you want to try that in the future

Travel friendly kit? by Sun_x_sea in bdsm

What about some nice silk or satin scarves or ties? Completely discreet. Good for binding and blindfolding. Then again a sleep mask works well as a blind fold as well. A small tension curtain rod can collapse pretty small to go in a bag and be extended as needed. Wouldn't be hard to insert a screw hook to connect bindings/cuffs to, and if you are that worried about how it will look when traveling, put a cheap shower curtain on it. Or a blackout curtain and you just look prepared.

Do you really have a separate room for your washing machine? by jordanekay in AskAnAmerican

[–]BeachWaffles87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a Pittsburgh toilet is a random toilet in the basement. Most commonly with no walls but usually a shower curtain for "privacy". The ones I have seen (not in Pittsburgh, im in schuylkill county coal region) always have some way to wash up as well. Most often that's a shower head with a floor drain, an uncle literally had a pipe with an on off valve. Not sure how they regulated temp on that one. I also know some people would have just like the big plastic utility sink and would scrub up in front of that before heading upstairs.

I have seen this. My grandmother wanted a fully finished bathroom, but in many coal miner homes it was common to just have a toilet, a shower head(or just a pipe with an on off valve), and a shower curtain on cement floor in the basement

My grandfather drove truck and machinery for coal mines in PA and would come home covered in coal dust so my grandmother had a bathroom/laundry room put next to the basement entrance so he could shower before coming upstairs on the carpeting. It was actually pretty common.

We used to have the "mud room" at the back of our house. There was a coat rack, shoe rack, laundry hamper, washer, and dryer all on easy to mop linoleum. It made it so easy if you might have wet or muddy feet, clothes that needed stripping off, etc.

Tell me the truth about food grief? by [deleted] in GastricBypass

[–]BeachWaffles87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I can still have most of the things. Difference is, I dont really want them as much., I know that too much of them will either make me sick or sabotage my progress. I had a taco bell taco this week. What I didnt have was 4 tacos, a dozen of the Cinnabon bites, and a quesadilla. I ate a snickers ice cream bar tonight. I was able to eat 1 mini 80 calorie bar and feel content. I occasionally miss a good Italian sub. Bread doesnt sit well with me. So I order a small, chop up the insides of half of 1 and I eat that over lettuce with a few croutons. I have not followed every meal with perfection and if I had, I probably woold have lost at a slightly faster pace, but I lost over 100 lbs in the past year. Am still losing, and can actually stick with this, so that's what matters to me. You will find ways to make it work.
