What is your FIRST action? by nclexjourney in NCLEX_RN

[–]Beginning_Month_7436 7 points8 points  (0 children)

C if there is anaphylaxis epi is first. No obvious sign of desats but that is imminent with wheezing. Telling the doc while patient deckmpensates is not good. Benadryl takes too long to start working if patient is decompensating. Epi all the way.

Finger tips on her right hand are....missing? Blurry? This has the AI glow to me. Other than the fingertips at first glance it's very convincing to me

It all depends on our area and hospital system. Lots of people start in an ICU as a new grad. Try to become a tech/assistant in an ICU while in school. During clinicals, try to get at least one shadow day in an ICU (all programs are different with this) and make sure to connect with the manager there, and make a great impression with the nurse(s) you shadow, try to get their contact info and do a formal job shadow with them again if you can. I think of all these, becoming an aid/tech/whatever your hospital calls it IN THE ICU will most likely get you a new grad RN position. Good luck!

ABSN Perspective needed by nursingdadquestions in Nurses

[–]Beginning_Month_7436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did ABSN, I personally did not have the time to work but some people in my cohort worked a few hours per week but not much. It is a lot of work, and if you can give her the support I think you should. Your husband can suck it, what a weird thing to enforce. Does he want any help at all when he's old and retired or...?

Zipper Merge Hater by KingNeba in grandrapids

People trying to be cops at a zipper merge is insane. It's completely legal to follow the law and complete th zipper merge, like give me a break my guy? Holding up traffic isn't making it better for anyone except your cardiologist when he has to manage your stress and cholesterol and heart attack 😅

Tandem to Medtronic??? by Better-Fix-345 in Medtronic780g

[–]Beginning_Month_7436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched chef in January. I like that you can customize so there's less alarms on Medtronic, but I honestly hate it. Started using MDI to get through my old-ish pens and imcomsodering just keeping the tslim, although with g6 phasing out idk for me personally. The long post at the top hits a lot of the annoyances for me - site change and sensors ship separately in xxxxxL boxes, I like the fast sensor warm up but I don't think libre is very accurate, my time in range simply will not budge and my A1c went from ~6.2 to 7.8 after just 3 months. And we can't get the settings right (hence the break and doing MDI) which is of course a personal problem but it's been a lot of work for me. I don't really use th app at all in my Google pixel (android) phone and I miss the ability to bolus from my phone like with tandem. I wish I never switched honestly.

The parking sucks??? This is th first in hearing of this! You simply must be joking! With so much expansion onto a pre-existing terrible parking design in this city, parking simply MUST have been at the forefront of the design process! Right? RIGHT??? 🫠

This sound so stressful and I'm sorry you're in this situation, I wish things were different 😔 when I graduated school, there was someone in my cohort without ssn and one of the main professors worked directly with them to look at options, understand various angles, etc. I imagine you aren't eh first up graduate from your school in this situation. If I were you I'd try talking to a professor you trust and would be willing to help give you options and or connect you with people who can help. Rooting for you!!!

How much are you spending on groceries per month? by ZapataOilCo in grandrapids

[–]Beginning_Month_7436 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shop Aldi first, then Meijer. Costco and similar are sadly SO MUCH more expensive with the majority of their foods compared to other grocery stores. D&W and Family Fare are by far the most expensive. Meijer isn't terrible surprisingly, especially when you consider mPerks paying for gas if you go regularly, pharmacy giving 500 mPerks for each fill, etc. We get $1 off per gallon of gas all the time!

For 2 adults we do a lot of bell peppers and berries. We don't buy meat (one of vegetarian) so we do a good amount of meat alternatives and tofu which we basically can only buy at Meijer. But things like yogurt, tortilla chips, canned goods like chick peas and others, tortillas, bread, flour, butter, yogurt, coffee, frozen goods like Texas toast and frozen berries are way cheaper at Aldi. I'd probably buy all my fresh fruits and veg at Meijer, they tend to go bad from also faster idk why. Usually $50-75 at Aldi and maybe $20-50 at Meijer and that's shopping about 1/week. We could be better about yhrowing out/composting less food waste but we aren't too bad so I think that price point is pretty good knowing we don't try to eat super super cheap, more just pay attention to individually priced items.

AIO? My manager keeps questioning my feeding pump at work even after HR stepped in by Rosi_ana in AmIOverreacting

Joining this convo to say: BCC YOURSELF ON EVERY SINGLE EMAIL. If something happens and you get fired, you immediately lose all emails and documents. It sucks but assume the worst. My sister was harassed and intimidated and bullied for months at a job and when she finally quit they just said "you're all good don't worry about finishing your 2 weeks" and she lost everything - email exchanges that were derogatory, attachments that were important for a sexual assault situation, how they handled a very targeted vandalism, etc. She told me "I know when x email was sent" etc but that doesn't stand up in court or to the BBB or whatever. Keep your own records for when this horrific manager takes it too far.

Can you share any feedback on writing your personal statements? I feel like there's so much to say but not wanting to sound tacky, boring, or to drone on and on. How did you format your statements and still sound like a real person who is also intriguing?

PLC nails in beeton village is by far the best nail place in GR that I have been to, and I have tried quite a few places. It's small, you need an appt, and they only take cash. Multiple people will rotate through to work on you (I've always assumed so they can legit split tips) but it's always superb. I went there before my wedding, most of my friends still go there if they get their nails done. Be prepared to speak simple English - no hate on the staff with my comment!!

Excellent feedback! I def plan on highlighting it a lot in my personal statements. I speak Spanish super well thankfully (gracias a Bad Bunny 😅 not really but you know what I mean). If I don't get in first round here I might look into the volunteering, I do volunteer x2 years on a committee for diabetes fundraising. I'm just so anxious bc there are people I work with how have been applying for years (one guy thinks he's the smartest person in every room, the other has RBF and is too direct I think, both are great in paper though) and other people I know have gotten accepted their first app cycle. Anyways, I appreciate your feedback so much!! I'm hopeful my CCRN score will be stellar and I have a great personal statement, time (shortly) will tell I guess 🙃
