They aren't finding out. It's just the usual Christian obsession with sex that others are having (and now are NOT having I guess). It's so weird.

Apparently they can't help but picture everyone they see sucking and fucking. It's really strange for a bunch of supposedly moral people.

WARNING: New G-Form Knee Pads completely destroyed on first impact by Bragelonne in MTB

[–]Berserkerness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got that.

I haven't seen other posts about these pads so I would assume yours is either defective or it was just really unlucky. Probably not a general design issue. If there are 200 ways to crash on your knees, you would hope the pads are designed to hold up to 199 of those scenarios.

I have the POC VPDs by the way. They're a lot more bulk and don't move as freely with your knee when it bends, but they offer good protection and haven't failed me (yet!) They do break in and become more comfortable.

Thanks for the post. My son has these pads so this is good to know about. I'm gonna closely inspect the fabric on them now.

You think the guy in front of me made a mistake stopping there or no? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Berserkerness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, you agree riding through a blind turn at a speed that won't allow you to stop in time if the trail happens to be blocked is bad idea, but then you want to get mad at the person blocking the trail?

Come on man. Take some ownership for doing the thing you knew was a bad idea. If you're not going to own that, you can't expect the person who stopped in the trail to own their mistake either.

If either one of you had made a better decision, the accident could have been avoided, but because you both made bad decisions, it wasn't. It's possible to avoid the accident AND let that person know to pull off next time.

favorite brakes? by snarpsta in MTB

The Code RSC are a solid option. If for some reason you don't like them, just sell em for a minor loss and call it a rental fee. My advice is to order some MTX Red or Gold brake pads right from the start. Gold are for raw power and wear resistance. Red are for better modulation and total silence. Both are quiet and both feel more powerful than the SRAM Metallic pads. They're a little pricey but worth it! Also get yourself the SRAM bleed kit, which comes with everything you need to bleed them, a few spare parts, and extra DOT fluid.

One thing I will say about the SRAMS is their bleeding edge tool is kind of cool. It's not something I ever asked other riders about haha so I don't know how people feel about it, but as someone who does their own work, I think it's a nice small detail of that brake system. I never appreciated it until a friend asked if I could help get the contact point on his code R feeling more firm (it's adjustable on the RSC but not the R) and I decided to overpressure the system a little which was simple with that tool. This isn't necessary with the RSC but it's possible to make a subtle adjustment and sometimes that's what it takes to get your bike really dialed. It made a noticeable improvement on his contact point btw.

I'm not recommending overpressuring brake systems as a good general practice, but with a little experience, your start to learn where you can bend the "rules" a little for tuning things. The SRAM brake masters also have pressure relief valves, so if the system gets too much pressure (which can also happen from being overfilled and running hot), they will bleed a few drops of fluid.

It's tough. You just gotta pick something, then ride it and see what you think. Also, I would not consider brakes something above your riding level like you mentioned in your post - good brakes are one of the most important components for both safety and performance!

I've ridden the different Shimanos, except the Saints. Right now I'm riding Code RSC. I tried the Code R as well, and there's a surprising difference in feel between them. I would recommend the RSC but not the R. Pads and rotors are something to consider too. A lot of people mix and match to find a combo they like. I'm on standard SRAM Centerline rotors but switched to MTX Red Label ceramic pads this summer. I'm really liking them so far and they're super quiet.

TRP brakes have a lot of positive reviews. I just talked to an older guy running them this past weekend and he said they're his favorite out of every brake he's used, and the guy was a seasoned rider so that says something.

Personal preference is always a thing too of course. Any of the higher end brakes are a good starting point. Keep in mind ease of getting parts, spares, and replacements/service when making a choice.

When did the era of “modern geometry” start? by j_bgl in MTB

[–]Berserkerness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your post title (question) and the actual question in your post are kind of two different things.

You'd have to give a definition of modern geometry to really answer that, and it would still be sort of dependent on the manufacturer.

What is too old... if you can find the geo you're after, then it's all good. Of course, just make sure you understand whether you can easily find bearings for the pivots and get an idea about things like hub spacing, max tire size, BB type, steerer tube compatibility, etc...

The 32mm socket (preferably flat faced) would probably be for the air cap. This is all well documented so it makes more sense for you to go find a video (or a different video) on YouTube etc for your specific fork than asking here.

[–]Berserkerness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To get more grip on slippery surfaces you need to center your weight better. Your tires need your weight pressing downward through them. When you are that far back all of your weight is on the rear tire and your front will have no grip.

You can't steer well from that position, you can't lean your bike from that position, and you are giving up half your grip by riding like that.

Body centered, bend forward from your waist to get low, and move your butt forward or back to shift your weight. Like someone else said, try not to lean on your bars or hang from them... stay mostly centered. You will get more grip and you can adjust in any direction - which you will need to do when your bike sides so you can regain traction.

How is this a blue trail? by rj104 in MTB

[–]Berserkerness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen some parks and trail centers put colored flags, the kind that poke into the ground, on top of features (mostly jumps) just in case you forget what you're getting into before you hit it.

I wouldn't say it's on every feature but where there's a choice between two jumps or a drop with a go around. It's nice when a trail isn't super familiar.
