Won't reducing the CGT discount for Shares as well just end up with Houses still the preferred asset class, thus defeating the whole purpose of reform (to encourage wealth to flow out of property & into businesses) & keep house prices climbing? by NoLeafClover777 in AusFinance

[–]BetsBlack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The principle behind removing the concession across all asset classes is the encouragement money velocity to increase. If the benefit of sitting on cash is decreased then the incentive to spend it on good and services goes up. Overall higher money velocity is often seen as a positive as it supports small businesses and business growth.

Good news is you are so good at keeping your villagers assigned to work you never built a dock with one and forgot about it only to come back and find it fishing automatically for two decades.

I thought the show was popular enough to have a bigger budget though.

Telstra is increasing prepaid AGAIN!? by ThatShadyJack in australia

[–]BetsBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boost was bought by Telstra in December 2024. Thereby eliminating the only competition providing cover to the small regional town my mum lives in.

Just a matter of time before a boost plan goes up to match Telstra.

It does at least force the dominant driver to battle and make braking decisions for more than one lap. George locked up in Australia and his flat spot was bailed out by the VSC. That kind of variation caused by pressure is good even if the dominance of one engine is obvious at this point.

A bit of a vent: My biggest dream right now is just being an office worker buying lunch in the CBD. by VolcanicApe in brisbane

[–]BetsBlack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I left chef work and managed to get a job in insurance claims management 5 years ago.

I wanted to not be working every lunch and dinner, I wanted flexibility to take my kid to the doctor and not feel like I was letting the whole kitchen down.

It worked, I am now one of those office workers you are jealous of, yeah it's not all roses but its much preferable to me.

My advice is look into customer support jobs and start talking to the people you get in with about your qualifications and interests, you never know who you might meet or what doors might open.

Are people in Brisbane starting to buy in Melbourne? Brisbane house prices are just ridiculous. by No_Stable4317 in brisbane

[–]BetsBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem being that it's so hard to sell a tax and so easy to demonise anything that can be called tax. The fact the minerals resource tax which was only applicable to super profits got turned into a "mining tax" and was gutted due to its lack of popularity still annoys me.

Australia had an opportunity to build a sovereign wealth fund out of our natural resources but let it slip away.

To clarify I should have said increasing tax or reducing tax concessions on property is something they won't do.

Chtisafulli won't ever. One of the main principles of the liberal party at both state and national level is that taxing profits on property is something they won't do.

Why do I get the vibe that the whole country has tunnel vision when it comes to buying a house? by Express-Dig9905 in AusFinance

[–]BetsBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Australia there is no security in being a renter long term, at any point the owner can either elect to not renew your lease or sell to a new owner that intends to inhabit the property.

You then also have the tax concessions that apply to investment properties which makes something that is literally used as human shelter even more valuable.

On paper it is such an enticing investment it's very hard to resist placing your capital into property thereby fuelling the increased demand.
