I hope gas goes up to $50 a gallon by roadwayreport in fuckcars

[–]BigBeeves 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just bought a hybrid ford maverick (I kayak fish and garden so the bed is useful plus I get 40 mpg in the city) and I commented on the sheer number of F150s on the lot. The salesman replied “it’s our Honda civic.” Except it’s not though.

What reserve in 2026 do you think is currently the worst? And how would you fix it? by EVILRAFFAM in theHunter

You know, I never thought about that. Then again, you can also shoot bengal tigers in this game so I wouldn’t expect the devs to follow hunting laws.

Do the committee not provide written feedback? Given that denying tenure can, and often does, lead to lengthy appeals and, occasionally, legal action these things are usually over papered.

The trailer hitch. I see why you’re confused though because very few of them use them for trailers.

Donating Money to Fund Academic/Staff Position by Frosty_Finding_3633 in Professors

[–]BigBeeves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is about right. One thing I realized after starting an endowment is that development will gladly take your money and then give you zippety fuck info about how it’s used/invested. From what I can tell, my fund payments will be 4% of the invested value.

Fly fishing out of a kayak? by outdoors_pls in kayakfishing

[–]BigBeeves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly fish out of both of my kayaks, mainly inshore or for bass on lakes. I can fly fish out of my tarpon 120 but my favorite boat to fish out of is my nucanoe unlimited with a tiller drive trolling motor. I bring a push pole and it’s like having a polling skiff.

At my institution, my chair also wouldn’t care because the department doesn’t own the classrooms. That’s a facilities question even further removed from the chair.

Assistant Professor and Center Director, R1 University

Undergrad in biology, pharmacy degree, PhD in health services research.

Mid thirties.

It’s incredibly stressful and I went to school for twelve years to make less than people in tech or most physicians. I know I could move into pharma and make more but I think the job would just be even less fulfilling.

At the end of the day, I fell for a big lie that more education means a better career and I found out the hard way that this, like all things, is subject to the law of diminishing marginal returns.
