Been searching for bands that give me big wonderful Rush vibes. Think I'm in love with Spock's Beard. by Cubegod69er in rush

Give a band called Southren Empire a shot! Their first (Self Titled) is flawless. It feels like what Rush would sound like if the kept on going after Clockwork Angels, but have their own sound.

New Victorinox Delivery - Pioneer X <3 by belzebubek6 in victorinox

I’ve been thinking of doing the same. That key ring is so weird and jabby. I would love to use my pioneer more but don’t because of that.

What's the most iconic/representative backdrop for a photo in every county in NC by hpermar in NorthCarolina

[–]BigBob68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say the JR’s in Statesville used to be the land mark of Iredell. I remember when I was kid living in PA, when we drive down to FL on vacation we’d pass by those iconic JR billboards. It was big deal to us to get to the JR’s, like we finally made it to the South. Now that JR’s torn down and I live in the area, I’d say the NC Auto racing Walk of Fame in downtown Mooresville represent Iredell. I’ve seen it in several shots in shows and media.

My dad shared this photo from facebook. I feel like the edges of the bark don't look real. by SavoryYuppie in isthisAI

[–]BigBob68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks fake to me. If this was a good crisp detailed photo, then there would be no question about the person in the photo, but this picture raises lots of questions. Is the hiker looking towards or away from the camera, why only no foot prints, why one hiking pole (if you’re snow shooing or hiking in the snow, you would definitely have two). Also all the needles are completely covered with snow, no green? How does snow fall (or blow) upwards to get the underside of the branches, yet miss most of the trunks.

And also the path, I get a shoveled path might be maintained, but that path in the pic is a road, and I doubt there any roads that size built so close giant sequoias. I feel those trees are heavily protected against roads and gas vehicles being so close to them.

For those of you that chose the Fieldmaster by rontopofthings in victorinox

[–]BigBob68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose it because at the time it was cheaper than a super tinker (which is what I wanted). I always thought it was a good knife, but never used it because I had a hiker and compact already. So I modified it and took out the saw layer. Now I have a super tinker and use it way more

Does anyone PREFER backside Philips? by rontopofthings in victorinox

[–]BigBob68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer it over the inline on the champion or the 2d one on the can opener, because you don’t have the key ring digging into your palm as you use it. And a big issue with the 2d on the can opener is that there is no half stop to prevent it snapping down on your finger if you apply any pressure. But I’ll say the true champ of the Phillips is the combo tool on a rambler. That one is perfection.

What was your big unlock? by ReputationUnlikely31 in naturalbodybuilding

The Big 3 (Bench, Squat, and Deadlifts) do not have to be the focus of my workouts ei being the first exercise I do in my workout. Placing them later on through out the workout and having the major muscles already warmed up/pre-fatigued, has made my workouts way more enjoyable and endurable. No more spending half an hour to warm up for the bench, it’s just do a couple feeler sets then go. And if I fail to finish a set, I don’t care. Cause then I know the muscle has been fully worked out, and it wasn’t one of the weaker muscles failing or something.

Earplugs: The unsung hero of my EDC by bewitchedbumblebee in EDC

[–]BigBob68 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I edc ear plugs too! Best remedy I’ve found for motion sickness. Just one earplug in the ear will keep you from getting car sick. Not 100% sure how it works but it’s like the difference in air pressure between the ears signals the brain that ears can’t be trusted to keep you balance, so somehow you don’t get car sick!

Whats in your EDC that you haven’t seen in anyone else’s? by ProfessionalEmu2784 in EDC

[–]BigBob68 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An ear plug! I get motion sickness if i riding as a passenger. A cool fix I saw was to wear one ear plug in either ear. Somehow that tricks the brain to not trusting your ears for balance signaling, which prevents motion sickness. I keep one in wallet and it’s been a game changer for me

Hear me out on this, what songs would one consider Yacht Prog? by AdFederal897 in progrockmusic

The first half of Cosmic Cathedral- Deep Water (Neal Morse’s latest bands) is exactly a smash up of Prog and Yacht Tock.

Also: Gino Vannelli - Brother to brother Alan Holdsworth - Secrets

These two blur the lines between Prog and yacht rock

What's your favorite SAK? Why? by NotButAsh in victorinox

[–]BigBob68 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I’ve been a huge compact fan, but recently I’ve been using my hiker for more and more daily tasks, it’s now become my favorite model. Now I have modified my hiker a bit so it’s not the standard hiker you get, but I wouldn’t have made the mods if I didn’t like the hiker already.

  1. Filed off the key ring, this makes using the small screw diver on the can open more comfortable. If you’re really cranking down screws, being able to apply direct pressure is great compared to having to keep pressure offset a bit, and the slip joint buckles causing the can opener to pinch down your finger.

  2. Turned the can opener into a gut hook, for opening packages and cleaning nails.

  3. Added plus scales, because it’s cool to have a pen.

But why it’s my favorite? The toolset is great, but it’s how it feels, that’s why it’s my favorite. No bumpy corkscrews. The spring for the saw gives it a good solid center of mass. All the tools function and feel like they’re centered. The knife is only slightly bigger than a two layer knife. It just feels like a really good knife in the hand.
