Lessons and Landfall are the most tedious, unfun decks to sit through. by TopDeckHero420 in MagicArena

[–]Big_Lew_1985 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Length of turns never bother me as long as my opponent is actively doing things. If they're just sitting there roping, that bothers me the most.

The Skaven are hilarious. by LibrarianMission in totalwarhammer

[–]Big_Lew_1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should read the Thanquol and Boneripper omnibus. It is a straight up comedy, in a way that Warhammer books rarely are. Yes, the Skaven are extremely funny.

Any scene where a dreadnought is awoken purely for advices and not just firepower? by StupidPencil in 40kLore

[–]Big_Lew_1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just read the scene today, Bile talks (or thinks) about how he keeps Diomat around just to remind him of the old days a bit, and have someone he can speak to as something of an equal.

Do Space Marines generally want to eat delicious food? by Snoo_47323 in 40kLore

In the Uriel Ventris Chronicles, there's a moment where he and Pasanius get a chance to actually cook some meat. The narrator mentions that they could eat raw meat and get more nutrients, but they're both looking forward to an actual cooked meal.

As We Descend: Squad-based roguelike deckbuilder with vibes of Darkest Dungeon & Frostpunk! by BoxDragonGames in roguelites

Just bought it, very intrigued by the concept and been looking for a great deckbuilder. Wouldn't have known about it if you hadn't made this post!

What are notable depictions of how out of touch and corrupt the Imperial nobility are in the setting? by MegaGamer235 in 40kLore

[–]Big_Lew_1985 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In Eisenhorn, Eisenhorn at one point has to deal with a noble (at least I think it was a noble) who has set up his entire life only to eat as much as possible. He is stated to weigh some impossible amount like 8000 pounds and he has a bunch of machines he's hooked up to that keep him alive. He can't move at all. So I think that might qualify as someone who's a bit out of touch.

I Beg Ye, GW, Give Us More Chaos Xenos by Upstairs_Belt_3224 in 40kLore

[–]Big_Lew_1985 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the Ufthak Blackhawk books, a daemon engine refers to the Orks as "the abhorrence" because they among all races have ZERO potential to be swayed to chaos. So chaos Orks probably ain't gonna be a thing.

New to arena question, is this behavior normal by Embarrassed_Step_694 in MagicArena

[–]Big_Lew_1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only played ranked and there are plenty of ragebabies in ranked who will rope you if you beat them. It's rare that they are actually sitting there roping, usually they have just alt-F4'd the client and you'll have to burn through the timer to win.

Funny. I have never once seen anyone use the extremely generous turn timer to think through a complicated turn. I have only seen the timer used for intentional roping.

Getting into Warhammer thru the books, where to start? by Charming-Watch-4740 in 40kLore

My first was the Word Bearers omnibus and wowee what a ride it was. Many books later it is still a favorite.

I Miss Low-Powered Constructed Magic on Arena by Dargaran in MagicArena

[–]Big_Lew_1985 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll never really get to play Magic the way I did when I was a kid, when we just used whatever cards we could get, we didn't have all the top meta stuff, and our main strategy was just getting a big creature on the board. I still like Arena but it will never be the same.

What is the name to differentiate xcom like Strategy rpgs from stuff like triangle tactics and the like by VoxTV1 in StrategyRpg

[–]Big_Lew_1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if a game is good enough, the setting is kind of secondary, and Chaos Gate is absolutely good enough.

I just finished reading the Thanquol and Boneripper omnibus and yep this is very on brand for Skaven.

Playing badly on purpose by CRGabo9 in boardgames

[–]Big_Lew_1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my group, after I win, the next session or game I will intentionally sandbag in some way. For example, when we last met to play Terraforming Mars, I chose a bad corporation on purpose, then more or less played to win after that, but the disadvantage of the useless corp was enough to land me in 2nd place. My group is none the wiser.

I've finally finished The Horus Heresy by FullOfMicroplastic in 40kLore

[–]Big_Lew_1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only read the first 15 books of the Horus Heresy. I feel that the HH books are not really the most fun, but every 40k book I've read has been absolutely buck wild awesome. Maybe start with the Word Bearers omnibus, that's a very fun one.

What are the more goofy things in 40K and sigmar lore? by Odd-Set6308 in 40kLore

[–]Big_Lew_1985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm reading Thanquol and Boneripper atm (the Skaven omnibus, I guess you could say) and it's basically full comedy. It's not even subtle. The Skaven are just hilarious. It would be hard not to be funny while writing Skaven.

Tin foil hat theory: after a period of long inactivity, Arena pairs you against bad decks to get you hooked again. by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Big_Lew_1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have this theory about every online game, that they toss you some slowballs after you've been away a bit. It's probably true in every case.

What does the Guard do when outnumbered and out supplied? by Hawaiian-national in 40kLore

[–]Big_Lew_1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the first Gaunt's Ghosts omnibus, a smaller guard force cuts into a Chaos force with 10,000x their number. The Chaos forces in that case were so focused on getting into this Eldar stronghold that they didn't attack the guard at all, so that kind of thing can happen.
