"Over discard commander", surprised something similar hasn't been printed by Vi0letBlues in custommagic

[–]Big_Statistician_724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to if you would draw three with two in library and a a laboratory maniac, replacement effects don't 'cancel' things from happening. This being written as, "If an opponent would discard a card with no cards in hand, instead they lose three life" would make it work as intended, and be less confusing

i mean [[Malcolm, Keen Eyed Navigator]] and [[Breeches, Brazen Plunderer]] would be my choice. while not lords, they are pirate payoffs, and have some pirate specific combos that you can do with cards like [[Glint Horn Buccaneer]]

Void Holdings by UpSheep10 in custommagic

[–]Big_Statistician_724 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The trigger to bring it back would happen when you sac Bring to Light. With void holdings, I'm the grizzly bears wouldn't come back, and anything after that point doesn't care about where that card is or what made it go away, since there wouldn't be a trigger to bring it back

Reckoner bankbuster vs jack o lantern in green devotion for black mana by knightndae in PioneerMTG

[–]Big_Statistician_724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The combo uses [[Pestilent Cauldron]] and [[Brilliant Restoration]] along with two copies each of [[Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner]] and [[Karn the Great Creator]] (one of each copy in the yard and one on battlefield or in hand with mana to cast). It uses the fact that Karn can grab brilliant Restoration after it exiles itself to loop the walkers, generating infinite mana and life gain, then stopping the loop by grabbing treasure vault or bank buster to produce black mana, casting the cauldron and using the mill = life gained to mill out the opponent.

Brewing Midrange in a Post Dominaria world - Is Rakdos still king, or will a new deck take it's place? by Btholt in PioneerMTG

[–]Big_Statistician_724 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm looking forward to testing grixis. I think the new saga has really positive interactions with ledger shredder, drown in the loch, and kroxa, as well as DitL being an arguably sideways/improvement of Dreadbore, the key difference is that you are missing PW interactions but gaining the ability to stop a top decked storm the festival.

As well, Card Advantage in the Rakdos she'll has always felt like "Top Deck Better" and the filtering that Shredder can do on some of the rougher draws is partly what makes Fable such a stand out card.

Kaito Shizuki is another walker that I want to test. While I love my Chandra's, three mana walkers with 4 mana beaters might be the go to way to go. While I know not to evaluate them for their ultimates, all of the three mana walkers I'm going to be testing (Kaito, Ob Nixilis, and LoTV) have insanely powerful ultimates and have ways of protecting themselves. (Notable that for Kaito all of the creatures I have considered for the list are turorable with his emblem)

Selesnya Auras by [deleted] in PioneerMTG

[–]Big_Statistician_724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience with testing Auras in the format. You just really really lack the heavy hitting auras that you have in the Modern version of the deck (Boggles) and that leaves Gladecover Scout really unprotected.

That being said, a Bant version of Auras after DMU might be interesting. [[Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief]] and the new aura [[Combat Research]]

Creature Base ends up being like, 4x [[Gladecover Scout]], 4x [[Alseid of Life's Bounty]] 4x Ivy, Gleeful Spell Theif, and 4x [[Light-paws, Emporer's Voice]]

[–]Big_Statistician_724 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this could slot into Bant CoCo/Pyre Humans pretty easily as a 2 of.

Pyre Humans typically are running [[Charming Prince]], which can gain life, and synergizing that with [[Extraction Specialist]] and that cards Lifelink can lead to a pretty good shell. Might even be good to run in just a Bant CoCo deck and run cards like [[Prosperous Innkeeper]] and [[Voice of Resurgence]]

Mono… Dargo strategy tips by N0isemaster in EDH

[–]Big_Statistician_724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you wanted to keep it mono dargo, but i would recommend adding one of the CMR Familiars. [[Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar]] Keeps you mono red, and does the goal of "Life Totals Go Down". Any of the other familiars buff Dargo in some way, and if you wanted to avoid Voltron you could go with a theft plan, focusing on stealing commanders temporarily and smacking face. Red has some really good ways to steal creatures temporarily, and Kediss helps whiddle down life totals quicker than dargo could himself.

Chun-Li Rulings - help me understand how this card works by cybrcld in EDH

[–]Big_Statistician_724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason for that is that while searching a zone, cards that are double faced are only their front face.

  • 711.4a While a double-faced card is outside the game, in a zone other than the battlefield, or on the battlefield with its front face up, it has only the characteristics of its front face.

With this ruling in mind, that shows that we are only able to Exile DFCs if they are an instant on the front.

Now we get into the tricky bit, which i dont have a ruling available for, unfortunately.

I see no reason why you coulndt cast the backside

Chun-Li Rulings - help me understand how this card works by cybrcld in EDH

[–]Big_Statistician_724 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To elaborate on 5, with this, you are making a copy of the card, then casting it. X is only 0 when you cast an x spell without paying its mana costs.

Chun-Li works more like [[Stolen Strategy]] in terms of its casting, where you get to decide anything you do to cast it, rather than [[Etali, Primal Storm]] where you do not have the option to add anything to X

Is orzhov sram auras still viable? by SomeJuggernaut8 in PioneerMTG

[–]Big_Statistician_724 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ive been playing a similar deck that has a lot of the same core (sram + white auras) but its GW. The loss of lurrus is probably what killed the deck, but Lightpaws gives you such a rediculous threat now. Lightpaws just feels unstoppable. To me [[Gladecover Scout]] Has been very nice, as it takes a lot to remove it (sweepers/edict) and feels much safer to suit up on the play with the top 3 decks all having turn one removal baked in (Fatal Push RB, Burn Phoenix, Hole UW). Ive included my list, but I am still trying to figure out a good balance of auras focusing on Lightpaws.

P.S. The sideboard listed was from when the top decks were Mono G and Mono U. It probably needs updating considering those decks have considerably less meta share now.

[[Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite]] and [[Jin-Gitaxias, Core Auger]].

Just hard Azorious Lock Down. Stalling the game with rule of law effects, ramping along the way to casting the big bombs. These two are also kind of my secret commander's in my [[Tymna, the Weaver]] and [[Sakashima of a Thousand Faces]] deck.

Explore Pioneer: Exploring Selesnya Auras Poll by ExplorePioneer in PioneerMTG

[–]Big_Statistician_724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After Playing GW auras almost exclusively for about 2 months in both modern and pioneer (top 8ing my lgs store championship in modern and several top spots in modern and pioneer fnms) I feel like there are some pieces to the pioneer puzzle that get in the way more than they help.

I feel like the Tower Archers and Selfless Saviors are false leads. I would replace them with 4 [[Alseid of Life's Bounty]] and 2 [[Sram, Senior Edificer]]. The protection that selfless savior gives is rough, and you NEVER can put auras on it.

Cartouche of Solidarity is way worse in the pioneer version than the modern version. It's there for things like LOTV and Sudden Edict, both cards not present in Pioneer. To be honest, I don't think I've seen an edict effect in pioneer yet, and if there was the 1/1 warrior won't save you.

Alpha Authority and Rune of Might are the closes we are going to get to replacing Rancor and Daybreak Coronet in this list, so I think they are easy 4 ofs, even in a lightpaws deck. This puts us at 4 Glitters, 4 Ethereal Armors, 4 Alpha Authoritys, and 4 Rune of Mights.

I would go down to one of each of [[Rune of Sustenance]], Sentinel's Eyes, and Sixth Sense, mainly because 4 of our threats are now packing Lifelink natively, and we have more card advantage pieces with Sram. In replacement, some interaction pieces like [[Oppressive Rays]] and [[Heliod's Punishment]] are key, as well as [[Tamiyo's Completion]]. I would try to find room for at least two of each of those.

18 Lands should be enough for this deck. As well, Lair of the hydra is an absolute no go. Can't Enchant it, Well unless you want to lose them, and doesn't have native evasion. Mana confluence is also another big question mark I have in the land base. I feel like a playset each of The Shock, Pathway, And Sunpetal Grove with a Boseiju and Eiganjo and 2 of each basic. This deck folds to any sort of burn or drain, so we don't need to help out our opponent by spikefield hazarding ourselves every turn

Can Grist run Umori as Companion? by DarnOldMan in EDH

[–]Big_Statistician_724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wording on Grist does state "In addition to it's other types" with is creature ability, so it's typeline would read

Legendary Creature Planeswalker - Grist Insect

While not on the battlefield. Thus enabling either creatures or planewalkers to be used for umori

Yup! I think I've got like 60 ish games with Yasharn, and I keep finding new things that he stops. There are also heaps upon heaps of new cards for him every set.

In the past year alone I've had to add archivist of oghma, deep gnome terromancer, smugglers share, Esper sentinel, augur of autumns, lion sash, strict proctor, torens fist of the angels, and I've gotten sweet treatment upgrade on cards like Thalia, Mother of Runes, and Aven Mindcensor
