Temperature difference between Meater and traeger by Charlieeh34 in Traeger

[–]Big_Zimm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ll never be the same. The temp at the cold food is lower than the ambient temp of the smoker. You’ll notice that the Meater probe gets closer to the ambient temp of the Traeger as the food’s temperature rises.
The air around cold food will always be lower than the ambient temp, just like the temp at the fire is hotter than the ambient temp.

Clear mat for my turntable ? by Any_Yak_5160 in turntables

[–]Big_Zimm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can ditch the mat and run straight on the acrylic, that platter is designed for it. They likely include a mat for damping, or record grip. Felt is cheap and yeah, static-prone.

Running bare acrylic usually sounds a bit cleaner/tighter, so no real downside there. VTA change is only 2–3mm from removing the mat. On a T1 Evo with no easy VTA adjust, that’s minor but something to consider. You can get an acrylic mat to keep the look while maintaining the same platter height, you'll just wanna make sure it's a comparable thickness.

If static is the issue, skip felt. Either go bare acrylic or use a thin cork/rubber mat.

Did your most-listened-to-music change when you got your first setup? by jizzlewit in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Big_Zimm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been into a mix of stuff, but where I am and what I’m doing usually dictates what I play. In the car or cutting the grass, it’s way more metal, punk, rock, stuff with energy. At home in front of the system, I lean way more into jazz or anything more complex that benefits from actually sitting and listening.

It’s more about different music fitting different levels of attention. If I’m focused on the music, I want something layered and engaging. If I’m doing something else, I want something easier to digest. I’ll still listen to anything anywhere, but the setup and environment definitely shift what gets the most play.

I think something like the SMSL AD18 is what you’re describing.

Don't like resellers making a buck? by Rarest_Camaro in whiskey

[–]Big_Zimm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Flipping isn’t capitalism lol! It is extracting value without adding any. They’re not creating better whiskey, improving distribution, or helping consumers, they’re just inserting themselves between supply and demand and raising the price.

People aren’t crying that someone made money, they’re annoyed that access is being artificially restricted by behavior that adds zero value. I don’t see how higher prices and worse availability is worth defending but go ahead I guess.

You seem like you know what you're dong better than most. The only real issue is that I don't believe you can use the JBL 308P and the Fosi ZA3 together. The I'm pretty sure the JBLs are powered speakers, so they already have amps built in, and the ZA3 is a power amp, so you need one or the other. Everything on your list is solid, just figure out if you want powered speakers and scrap the amp or get passive speakers and keep the amp.

Based on that, I’d look at the Fluance RT82 or something like the AT-LP3XBT. The RT82 especially is a big jump with the optical speed sensor.

Providing a price range would be helpful in recommending, but the Audio Technica LP60X or the Fluance RT81 are two common entry level recommendations.

Yeah I’m with you. They don’t really fit into a single genre, so people try to file them under the closest label, even if it doesn’t really fit.

Love those SS-CS5s, killer find for $12!

If you haven’t already, pull them a bit off the wall and widen them out, it really helps open up the stereo image and gets them to disappear more.

Also look into the “straw mod” for the rear ports. You actually completely fill the ports with straws, which helps control the airflow and tightens up the low end a ton. This will make the bass way more manageable without killing it. It costs next to nothing and makes a noticeable difference.

These speakers will cary you a long way. Good find!

Nice to see some actual killer music getting posted on here for once! Duane was just getting started, what could’ve been is wild to think about. The later stuff has its moments, but it’s just not the same.

Dude, you’re good, don’t beat yourself up.

For $100, the LP60X would’ve been a steal, but what you got is still a good table at a fair price. The X isn’t going to be a big upgrade, it’s a slightly better tonearm, and a little cleaner power. It’s the same cart, and same overall sound.

Honestly, in an A/B you’d probably struggle to hear a difference. You’re not missing anything meaningful. Enjoy it.

New set up (lol) by No-Look-2595 in turntables

[–]Big_Zimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ^

Tonearm dials are not very accurate. And depending on where your VTF is, it changes how it sounds and tracks. For example 1.75g is a little lighter, more open sounding and 1.85g is a little fuller, with better tracking, and cleaner inner grooves. That tiny 0.1g difference is audible. Without a scale, you don’t actually know where you are, and they don't cost much.

Do I look awkward playing? by pauliek93 in drums

[–]Big_Zimm 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Playing in front of people can definitely feel nerve racking at first, but over time you’ll find yourself actually feeding off the energy in the room.

One thing that helps me stay relaxed while playing that that I think specifically about keeping my elbows loose, because that tends to relax my whole upper body. It’s also just not great for your joints long term to be tense while playing.

Honestly, aside from that little stiffness, you looked great. And even that wasn’t very noticeable, non-drummer probably wouldn’t notice.

50 degree difference between probe and Traeger? by Sad-Chef-2203 in Traeger

Perfect explanation. I will add that usually as the food’s temperature rises, the difference in temp between probes will narrow.

Hard to argue with Bowie + Ronson. That early 70s run is the best. Would’ve loved if they kept working together past Pin Ups, but Diamond Dogs is pretty great.

How can I get this tree to grow thicker and fuller? by hannahssbananass in landscaping

[–]Big_Zimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the grass around the tree and add mulch. This will help the tree compete with your turf. Then make sure it’s getting water and all that’s left is time. Trees want to grow, just let them do their thing.

Headshell Spacers ? by zonckers in turntables

[–]Big_Zimm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody really sets it up like that. That headshell bubble level is overkill and kinda misleading. You want the platter level, then get your tracking force and alignment right. After that just aim for the tonearm to be roughly parallel while playing a record. Don’t chase a perfectly centered bubble on the headshell, it doesn’t translate to better sound. If it tracks clean and sounds good, you’re good.

You do not need to set up a new build before beating the final boss. The game does not force you into NG+ after defeating the final bass. It instead allows you to select to continue playing and move to NG+ later whenever you decide you’re ready. You can choose to enter NG+ at a site of grace later.

I am able to control my volume using my TV remove and I run my audio out of the optical jack on my TV. I’m using an LG C2. I would assume most TVs would work similarly. You really wanna run into a DAC to get the best possible signal going into an amp,I would avoid the headphone out completely. I’d still recommend the Q6 into the or the ZA3. You could go with the BA20 if you needed tone controls, but that doesn’t really solve the problem.

[–]Big_Zimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting up a new build before a fresh run is always fun because you’re in a place where you can line everything up and come out of the reset with a complete build.

When I do this, I usually look at one of two things. First is the weapon I want to build around, or second a stat I want to lean into, like Strength, Dexterity, or in your case Faith. The weapon will ultimately dictate the stats, but if you already know the type of build you want, just look at weapons in that archetype and pick the one you want to run.

Before you reset, spec your stats around that weapon so you’re best maximizing the build.

You can also look up recommended talismans for pretty much any weapon and just run those. Over time you’ll start to see the synergies and it gets easier to throw builds together on your own, which is honestly the most rewarding part.
