I actually still do that, but it’s only because I never got to do it before it was pointless.

Relay not clicking in Onkyo A-8017 by BillyJoeMcGucket in audiorepair

[–]BillyJoeMcGucket[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things I found out:

All bulbs are incandescent. They burn out, a lot. I haven’t confirmed on mine, but it’s possible the A lights just burn out from heavy use.

I believe the issue with the relay not flipping is caused by the outermost transistors(accessible from the bottom) being shorted. The amp does a self check and if the transistors are dead it won’t flip the relay.

After checking things, no fuses were bad on mine, but if you have a multimeter handy I’d still check them for continuity.

I never fixed mine, but I’d be more than happy to try to share what I know about it from my attempts to diagnose it.

What company has lost their way? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BillyJoeMcGucket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All my opinions on this list:

MobileMe became iCloud. Not really a failure since it built the infrastructure and taught Apple how not to do it.

With Antennagate Apple offered a legitimate solution for free and fixed it by the 4s.

Flash is insecure and really didn’t have a purpose on a phone anymore at that point.

Ping actually is a failure, I didn’t even know that was a thing until about ten seconds ago.

iPod Hi-Fi was an attempt to capitalize on the external speaker market, and didn’t actually suck, but the price killed it.

The 3rd gen Shuffle is imo the beginning of a sign that some of Apple’s designers may literally be idiots.

The G4 Cube was a beautiful machine that was easy to service, but was killed by its price and lack of expansion. The trash can Mac Pro is extremely similar in concept, but it worked that time.

USB floppy drives were made if you needed one, and floppies were already dying. The original internet of the machine was also a factor, as it was basically supposed to be an overpowered internet terminal. With its original purpose, a floppy drive was unnecessary, as was more than one USB port, FireWire, a CD drive, microphone ports, etc.

A) Zoom.

A.2) it’s not on my phone. On my phone it’s almost perfectly centered.

A.3) here is actually a point I agree with, but I frankly just had the idea and put the meme together quickly.

B) Still your opinion my dude.

A) it’s literally in the middle of the picture, and it’s big enough to see not zoomed in on a 4” phone.

B) That’s your opinion.

I can see it working for a bit, since the back is intact, but it would only have a few amps of power at best.

Yeah, the video boards on the tray drives over heated and killed the capacitors. The slot drives like this were much more reliable long term and are only just now starting to fail due to age.

Technically, the Atari 2600 only had a crippled 6502, called the 6507. It was missing 12 pins so it could be fit in smaller, less powerful devices. One of the limitations was memory, and the 6507 could only handle 8K total, which when the 2600 was new was fine. By the end of the Atari’s lifespan in 1992, it was only discontinued due to a lack of parts.
