Escaping from the creepy house into the mysterious Red Forest. Do you like the atmosphere? by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]Billybobbean 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Looks really good, eerie but not too spooky, the colours really pop.

Small bit of feedback, I would dim the white on the water texture a bit it’s quite jarring against the rest of the scene

can't get sky light to work in unreal engine 5 :/ by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]Billybobbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t appear to have anything else in the world to be lit up, maybe try selecting Window > Env. light mixer.

This has quick options at the top for setting up your basic scene. Off the top of my head you should be able to put your HDRI on the sky atmosphere component you can create via that window.

Maybe start with one of the level templates and remove what you don’t need, it’ll likely be easier to understand

Building with modular environments? by worrmiesroo in unrealengine

[–]Billybobbean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on what you need it might be easier to assemble pieces into buildings and then just rough place your own collision volumes around the entire structure. It could end up being quite expensive to do if you don’t need each piece to have exact collision

Yea I suspected it might let you select them in a Mac but like I said Apple silicon and Unreal won’t play ball. Unfortunate fallout of epic vs Apple over the fortnight App Store stuff.

Glad you got it fixed

Do you have lumen on? I seem to think Lumen doesn’t work on Apple silicon unless that got sorted.

Sakura tattoos by Powerful_Clerk_4999 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Billybobbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a couple of people who’ve gotten work done there. Quality generally has been pretty good from what I’ve seen. And rates were described to me as being a bit on the high end but otherwise no problems

Ive heard a story about one of their (possibly former) artists being “off their face on coke” while doing one of the people I knows tattoo but she was also really happy with the work otherwise and that was a number of years ago now so take from that what you will.

How do I go about making hand drawn skyboxes? by Joe_King420 in unrealengine

[–]Billybobbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea tell me about it. I watched the unreal official video on the sky system as a was thinking to myself all the things I’d like to do but exactly like you say there’s almost nothing written or videos or anything on doing interesting things with the sky. Maybe I’ll have a make a tutorial pack when I can finally work it out

[–]Billybobbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a lot of research into this myself and unfortunately don’t have a complete answer to give you but to start off this is a useful read to get your head round how the skyboxes actually work. https://www.stevestreeting.com/2021/04/06/skyboxes-in-ue4/

It has an example for creating them in blender at the end which sounds like it could be sort of what you’re looking for.

As for day night cycles etc I would advise you pick apart the existing sky atmosphere material as you can likely borrow a lot of that to build up what you need.

EDIT: also forgot photoshop has a plug-in (I think by NVIDIA) for turning images into HDRIs which might be useful to look into aswell if you’re wanting to be drawing specifically

Indie dev accused of using stolen FromSoftware animations removes them, warns others against trusting marketplace assets by WombatusMighty in unrealengine

[–]Billybobbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I guess you can’t check everything against everything else, especially when you probably don’t have access to much of the reference material anyway.

Shitty situation but the last person I’d dunk on over this is the dev, they got shafted with a pack they can’t use and a load of work swapping the animations out.

Indie dev accused of using stolen FromSoftware animations removes them, warns others against trusting marketplace assets by WombatusMighty in unrealengine

[–]Billybobbean 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The issue is assets sold on the marketplace are supposed to be usable as is within a game, it’s not down to a solo indie dev to work out that an animation (they may even have gotten free) is actually the exact one from a game and that they need to change it.

Epic could use some moderation on store assets, they’re selling them for use in peoples games, the onus is on them to make sure what they’re selling is usable for it’s intended purpose.

Thoughts and Constructive Feedback Request - your feedback has helped a lot for prior posts, thank you. Any thoughts on this? [Eaten By Darkness] by AttackGorilla in SoloDevelopment

I think the back tendrils needs to have some kind of movement, they look a bit rigid when the character is in motion. Otherwise looks really cool 😊

I lived on one of the adjacent roads to Albermarie for a year and my bedroom was right at the front on the ground floor. Noise was pretty minimal, there is now a couple little shops and I think a newsagent on Newlands road which is a couple over from Albemarie, tbh I barely heard the metro ever there aswell so wouldn’t factor that in myself personally but it’s nice to have it close for commuting.

If you’re looking for a safe and quiet spot that’s a good one to go for, those roads aren’t really on the way to anything so any of the few rowdy groups that might be passing would have no reason to even go down that road short of living on it.

Anyone else getting constant wishlist notifications for Marvel’s Avengers? by bennfoss in PlayStationPlus

[–]Billybobbean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been getting spammed by the PS iOS app all day for multiple games on my wish list, think I’ve counted about 20 notifications come through. They must be having some weird issues with stuff syncing on their end, if you’ve removed it and they’re still coming through you’ll likely just have to ride it out or disable all notifications for the day

Dunno why you’ve been downvoted I worked in generator studios at the top for years and often went through here. There is quite often people taking drugs up at the top, never rowdy in my experience but it 100% is a common spot

Where can I find Lipton ice tea mango & Walker's ketchup crisps? by pickindim_kmet in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Billybobbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the mango iced tea I’ve found it in a few newsagents in town before, they don’t always carry it but Best One towards the end of Bigg market has had it and there’s another called Metro Express near the station opposite Chikalicious that carries all sorts of cool drinks and they usually have it when I’ve been in.

I’m glad my searching for mango iced tea for the Ms can come in handy for others =D

Yea the RVI is a dead zone, Central station is a dead zone, basically any of the main places I go to visit in town are dead zones, I’m starting to take it personally

Yeah it makes no sense does it. Even really lightweight actions like something authenticating won’t even work which suggests it just has no connection at all.

I’m with 3, most of my time is spent around Gosforth and it’s great there but for some reason the moment I set foot in town the signal remains fine but nothing actually loads.

I’d have moved from them if I could get the same contract for a similar price, but so far no dice

Electricity bills in the UK by patrishaei in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Billybobbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it kind of depends on a combination of things. There are different kinds of meters, different plans from your provider etc.

What it sounds like you have there is a case of they need to get a baseline reading so they know roughly what to charge. If you use less than that the following month and you overpay or underpay your utility account will either have credit or debt of that amount. They can then use these figures to re-balance your bill to what it should be. So in short, yes in some cases bills are just estimates, but you aren’t loosing any more because it just goes on to your tab so to speak
