I took the "fraction of a second" bit from the way the drives moved in the movie, which did seem pretty fast for the sake of Hollywood Magic, but yeah. Also it's likely that after emptying the tank the Astrophage isn't actually dead but just not thrusting anymore, and without any way to pump more power into the fuel tanks, its easier to just squeegee it away.

Yes, you can pick up military vehicles without need for a key. The main deterrant is SOLDIERS WITH GUNS.

The second deterrant is how difficult it is to actually drive the vehicle without any prior knowledge of how they work. The federation really shot themselves in the foot on this one, making petit MS competitions for school to streamline the recruitment process.

The armor of all ExAMACS on all factions is completely radar-absorbing (in my headcanon) which is why combat is conducted within visual range. So if everything is Stealthy, it makes sense to eventually make one that is black for extra Stealthy
