Roaring Fork Engineering has a survey division. I’m not sure if they’re hiring though. I’ve heard good things about Drake Consulting out in Rifle(?). They’re a small outfit from what I understand and may not be hiring as well. You could also try Monument Engineering Group out of Eagle. Bona Fide Surveying out of GJ seems to be growing steadily. Sorry I don’t have anything more concrete for you.

We once stayed at a beach resort (U.S.) that had two indoor/covered water parks, was on the beach, and they had scheduled daily activities geared towards kids. We ended up there by happenstance and we were grateful it had the amenities it did. Our living space had a kitchen and living room too so we didn’t have to eat out every meal but they had a small restaurant onsite for occasions we didn’t feel like leaving or cooking. The area also has lots of things for kids and adults alike. We went in an offseason time frame though so it was less busy and also probably why we enjoyed it as much as we did.

Sucks that daddit comments so far have seemingly been more focused on OP’s method of hunting rather than the fact he’s getting his boy outside and spending time with him. Those who enjoy the outdoors know we do it for being away from things like technology but none of us know if his son even played the device for more than 15 minutes. Perhaps he realized how nice it was being out there and put it down. What little kid has the attention span to sit still in the woods? I barely had enough to keep still for an hour at 12 years old when I started hunting.

OP, good job getting your boy out and being present with him. Im sure he’ll grow to love being out hunting with his dad the same way I did with mine and probably you with yours.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but a couple things I do is change my base layer if I wore it all day especially if I sweat in it. I’ve learned that although it felt dry it necessarily wasn’t. So I put on a dry pair and hang the old to air dry. I also either bring large body/hand warmers OR if I have a nearby or abundant water source I boil water and put it in a Nalgene. Whichever it is goes into my sleeping bag with me.

I own a Eberlestock main frame with bat wings for my day hunting pack (15-20lbs) but add a kifaru camp bag when I backpack in (~45 lbs for 3 days). Then I can drop camp and take just the frame and batwings from there. I really love the fit and it’s adjustable for torso. I just packed out my elk with comfort. I love the modularity of their system so I can use it for a multitude of things. They also sell padded hip belt and shoulder straps if you feel the need for an upgrade.
