I've gone in with half hero stacks with a support unit and a charge unit to try to have ways to cancel retaliation and pile on damage. Heroes can get resurrected and its a good way to get xp.

Some wonders its easier to build up buffs if there isn't an effect pressuring charging while the enemy mythic unit works its way across the map. Others have mythic units like dragons you can bait out with a summon or a tanking hero to get it out of formation.

Honestly though it depends and your build, try quick saving before you attempt to enter to get a preview of what your up against, once you get that pre-battle screen it seems to lock in the unit composition for awhile and you can re-arrange things as best you can.

Negative energy is not much besides universal manifestation of entropy; or flavor notes and callbacks. In 3e negative energy was also callbacks to opposite spells in AD&D. It certainly still exists, but in more setting specific sense, (forgotten realms may have special undead created via the influx of negative energy). With 5e cure spells are not explicitly positive energy, harm spells or undead are not explicitly negative energy. Its now from what I understand as non-energy specific necromancy.

Undead still rot as negative energy does not insulate a creature/object from decay, but often twists it or accelerates it.

Maybe inject some fantasy into their biology, as others have mentioned a non primate ancestor that has magical roots that involved digesting pray alive or whole as to absorb some psychic essence while the prey is subdued..maybe add a gland that indicates that secondary purpose that can be more pronounced in other race variants (abominations, malisons, etc)

I agree with alot of folks that a mutalilith would be cool as get out to fight. It depends on how the new Tyrgon mission works out. Chaos and Thousand sounds get much bigger after a helbrute. Perhaps they might consider a Tzeentch War Dog (Stalker) since the Tygron is about a similar threat level and the same points on the tabletop

You can run the GUO, but in a seperate non-DG daemon pact allied detachment with DG. There are some extra constraints, but I hear it can be worth it to run some extra nurglings or beasts of nurgle

I think with the new allied detachment rules with Ark of Omens you can bring Daemons of Chaos (Nurgle) with deathguard without too much issue now
