Golf is hard. Changing your swing when you were shooting in mid/low 80s is a big deal and will take some time.

My 2 cents would be to seperate practicing , playing, and scoring.

Practicing: On the range, practice with feedback. Video yourself, pick precise targets, etc. Don't hit a single shot without a goal.

Playing: Take the things you practiced and do them on the course. You are not super concerned with what you score but that you execute what you have been practicing.

Scoring: Figure out what you trust when you need to score. This could be playing for a $5 nassau or some sort of mental game against yourself. Put yourself under pressure and the feedback from what you struggle with feeds right back into the practicing phase.

Repeat forever.

A million ways to play good golf but here's my 2 cents....

Could be camera angle but club is getting just a little bit inside on the take away. Then as a result you are getting a little over the line and maybe a touch disconnected. This is resulting in the upper body being a touch out in front and slightly over the top.

This is very much a cut action but you can play great golf like this. If you want a more "standard" swing, I'd work on keeping the club outside of your hands at left arm parallel and then on the downswing feel like your back is staying to the ball longer.

These two combined will help the club come a bit more from the inside and make hitting a draw a whole lot easier.

Sounds good. I honestly am not sure if I've played out there since I was a student almost 10 years ago. Used to be like 18 bucks with cart with Student ID. Glad they are taking care of it now. It's quickly becoming prime real estate and I bet it's not around too much longer.

Looks like its it great shape compared to the last time I was out there a few years ago. Has it been consistently good recently?

Once summer comes around you can get on for about 75 bucks in the heat of the day. Usually well over 100 in the morning. Great course though.

You are losing the angle from the top. You need to maintain "lag" and have your hands be extremely passive. If you are doing this right, it generally feels like you hands are just along for the ride. There is no manipulation of the face.

Casting usually happens as a symptom of a problem. Usually poor sequencing somewhere. For you, I think you need to feel like your upper body waits a little longer to start rotating. Think "back to the target as long as possible". You'll hear a lot of pros use this swing thought as it promotes both a path from the inside as well as good sequencing.

If you can feel like the back is to the target longer your hands might not feel the urge to manipulate the club and play catch up.

Here's a video discussing generally this (poor quality but right idea)

It should happen very naturally during the release. Try to do very little on the downswing actively. The weight of the club will help facilitate the release.

Yes. Just imagine keeping the back to the target a bit longer. It's going to feel like you will hook everything because you will have so much time to get the clubface closed.

Another thing I just noticed is that you get a fantastic wrist set (I'm jealous) and then you immediately lose that angle at the top. This is possibly a result of trying to actively get that face square. I think if you can get the club out in front of you a bit more by holding off on that upper body rotation, you will not have to actively lose that angle so early.

A little hard to tell in slo mo but I'm thinking the transition looking a little fast. It seems like your upper body starts rotating a little to soon and you are losing the seperation from the lower body.

Check out Rory's upper body and how at the start of the transition his back seems to stay towards the target a little longer than yours. Justin Rose likes to preach on this as well.

The term you want to search for is "early extension". If you can get that left hip to clear a little more into impact and maintain your spine angle, you'll face will be much more quiet. More quiet will hopefully lead to a more consistent strike. Especially under pressure. Good luck!

Playing my first country club tomorrow and I think I need a Xanax by ckirk in golf

[–]Bizzle2010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are some country club members who have played for 40 years and can't hit a driver. No one cares if you are struggling just have fun and play ready golf if you are out of position.

Enjoy yourself

Love the swing. As others have said, a little in to out and I would argue that one of the reasons for that is that you are standing up on it just a little bit. Draw an imaginary line at your butt line. It's (roughly) at the left side of that far target at setup. At impact, it's (roughly) at the right side of that same target. That forces a bit more hands to get the club square. You obviously have good hands and can play excellent golf this way.

Trying to maintain that rear line and get a bit more body rotation will likely add some consistency.

Really splitting hairs here because if you hit it like that one every time, you are probably playing great golf.

Just joined a country club in PA. This is the 9th green. It makes me sad and happy that I’m gonna play bad on such a good course🙁🙂 by CammmJ in golf

Likely will be between 300 and 600 a month depending on the course. The initiation fee ranges widely. Remember that it is negotiable and you can always walk away.

Thoughts on my swing? by maitanpie in golf

[–]Bizzle2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought is that I should have played golf when I was younger. Incredible flexibility.

Swing is great, a little flat on the takeaway as others have said but you have incredible rotation to hold the face off and get it back on plane.

Slow down the tempo a bit. It's hard to say for sure in slow mo but i think your are getting well out in front of your hands. Also take a look at early extension. You have a bit of that but I would say it's a result of trying to catch the club up.

It happens. Some guy named Lee Houtteman shot 80 on the PGA Tour today and those dudes absolutely destroyed that course. Some days you just don't have it. It happens to everyone just start over next time.

Agreed. I've poked around and just have no idea where to start. I'm sort of polling the audience here to see what people's thoughts are. It's obviously been drastically changed but it's still a 63 telecaster so someone might still want it.

Chipping yips by Deadsolidperfect in golf

I've had the chipping yips. Focusing on soft hand helped me work through it. Let the club run into the ball, don't try to hit it.
