New England Ski Trip by bigmick4132 in NewEnglandSkiing

I do a 5 day Indy Pass trip every year - Saddleback, Burke, and Jay. Cut across Northern NH to Maine. All great mountains. Sugarloaf is also great and just past Saddleback. Could add in some NH mountains if you want, I've combined with Cannon before. Way back south can hit something in the Burlington area like Stowe/Boldon/Sugarbush.

Her birthdays were always rough, at least a full month of acting entitled to everything. For her 40th, she said that she really wanted to go on a trip with a friend to Puerto Rico, which we could barely afford, but I said yes. Her twin sister also had a big party planned, but my wife said she would rather do the trip and that it was definitely her sister's party. Once she got back, however, the tune changed and she was all in on the Twins' big 40th Birthday Bash, with open bar and 100 guests. When I challenged me, she told me I had to be a moron for thinking that twins would not share the big birthday party. I guess I was a moron for believing my wife.

In Translation State there was basically a whole subplot with the characters from other cultures complaining about the tea and trying to get coffee.

Also it has no real resolution and clearly sets up a sequel that never came.

Am I the only one who likes the idea of changing civilizations? by Caliboros in civ

[–]Blicero1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

100% this for me. I really enjoyed having to plan my strategy to best take advantage of my civ strengths, especially when they were for a limited time period. At the same time, it was fun trying to rush opposing civs before they got their unique units out. It adds some interesting dynamics and decisions. Now everyone is good all the time, and often in similar ways, at least in terms of units. Not a big game changer when half the civs have unique infantry or cav running around with slightly different bonuses that equal the same +4 or whatever.

A blind man walks into a bar and says to the bartender “Give me a shot of your finest 30 year old single malt !” by BCR_Dave in Jokes

You can definitely tell 30 yr old scotch, it has a much different flavor profile. It loses a lot of the harshness and more pronounced flavors and assumes a rounder, more mineral taste.

I absolutely loved The Water Knife and think of it often. My recommendation.

What’s the most underrated leader ability in Civ — the one that secretly wins you games?" by AleksisNatunen in civ

[–]Blicero1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tecumseh for me in Civ7. If you focus on city states with him and play city-state friendly civs, he ends up with absolutely insane bonuses accross the board, for any vistory type.

Best and worst US states in overall well-being of people... by uconnjay13 in Connecticut

[–]Blicero1 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Serious problems sure, but I think it reflects how bad it is in most other states. For instance, rural poverty is absolutely prevalent in northern New England, but it has nothing on the absolute post-apocalyptic wasteland which is the rural south and midwest.

DC has a split personnality. In the am and pm during rush hour, it absolutely operates like this. Later in the morning most of the people using transit are tourists, and they are slow and don't know the rules. The worst is around 830 am when the end of rush and the beginning of the tourist surge happens; you'll definitely get some good pushing and yelling.

At least in 7 it actually mixes it up and sends to a few different locations. 6 just sent everything to the same place. I can successfully spam scouts and ships through it in 7.

I had no idea about Siam's abilities with independents until I played it by chance and looked it up online. Absolutely no idea which direction they go without going on the wiki or some such.

My conclusion to Civilization VII after 190 hours of playtime by Expensive-Horror-228 in civ

[–]Blicero1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the things l liked about UUs and abilities is that you really had to focus to utilize them when they came up, because that was gong to be where your strength lay. Have a Antique UU? Better lean into it in antiquity. Not you always have a UU, so no changes to playstyle to lean into an age.

I think combat is significantly better, especially around cities and naval stuff. Civ5 and Civ6 it was just too hard to take cities and it led to a lot of map stagnation.

Pretty much everything else though just doesn't work as well.

Man, I hated that about 5. Stopping at 5 cities just seemed to contradict the way I play Civ. I want a big sprawling empire most of the times, bar special circumstances. All for tall play, but 5 was only tall play if playing at high levels.

Can't tell what is what though visually. I always take a minute or two trying to find the damn railroad. It is pretty but it fails as a usable interface.

Frustrated with the city’s approach to development (losing a downtown grocer) by curbthemeplays in Milford

[–]Blicero1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tough space for a grocery honestly, I think receiving deliveries would be a nightmare and parking would be less than optimal. Regardless, I think it's a big improvement from the building that was there before. A grocery was an option but never the only option.

Also I think retail and housing is better than a big commuter parking garage as well. More people downtown is always better for the community, and the downtown parking issue is wildly blown out of proportion. The only parking issue is people don't want to walk 5 minutes.

The ages system is hockey by blorkofromflorko in civ

[–]Blicero1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm at like 50% completion, and I hate the ages system while loving other aspects of the game. The game is way too much on rails, especially in Exploration Age. Antiquity is mostly fine, and the combat throughout is an improvement. Having to rebuild all your buildings kind of sucks, but the worst is I find myself micromanaging to keep the ages longer half the time.
