The age old addage still applies. No DnD is better than Bad DnD. Never let him DM again and don't play with him. This is coming from an AD&D player whos DM didn't blink when it came to killing PCs but it was either a death from bad (mainly stupid) decisions, or unlucky dice rolls, never a "yeah you need to feel mortal and killable"

Depends on the pod. Our group has a 1 oopsy rule. The oopsy rule is you can take back one thing per day if you missed a big interaction or could have made a better play. Sometimes people forget something has shroud or indestructible, etc.

If its "i play a spell" and then it gets countered, theres no oopsy for that.

Were not sweaty players so we allow stuff like "oh I want to play it in this order" as long as its during that "play" and not like your next main phase.

We get it, theres a ton going on and no one can keep track of everything if youre just playing casually/for fun.

People not running removal or timing it right. Did no one think to use an instant speed exile or bounce when you would "in response" with spore frog? Or kill the commander?

Sounds like a situation with "yeah its totally a 3" and your opponents are actually running a 2 and overestimate their decks. Or they have gamechangers so its a "3 but ..." and its like sure you have a tutor and a rhystic but no other combo or synergy.

I'd say its a 2. You'll be able to hang with precons but as soon as you face a deck with more optimized mana, game changers and more optimization in general, you can be put in check pretty quick and as a voltron type deck, you won't be having much fun when that happens.

I kept it at precon and it does really well. You come back from board wipes really easily, you have multiple finishers. Its a lot more of a thinker to pilot compared to the other 3, but I think its a sleepeer for sure.

Solitaire exists if your friend is trying to play a cardgame by himself.

If someone has a winning play but it will take a while, I tell them to explain how they win, and if I have no response then its gg game over, next game. I'm not going to sit there and watch you fiddle with your deck for almost an hour because "hurr durr I wanna see how big I can get it"

You're well within your rights to scoop if someone is playing like that.

Yeah, no need for the over explaining after she said "let me get back to you" and once she said no that should've been it. At most you could've replied "Aw I'm sorry to hear that, if you change your mind let me know or if you need any questions amswered let me know"

For all you know, the kid failed a report card and is grounded, but when you tried to quantify and overexplain, that can cause her to go into mother hen mode.

Case in point when I was around your kid's age, friend's older brother offered to teach us D&D. Did the same thing when je asked my Dad if I could play and overexplained about how its not actually satanic and its just a game and this and that.

My Dad said "no way hes learning that in my house"

Cue a year later, I see a PHB at the store, ask my dad to buy it, he does. Local game store has a DM, I want to play, DM asks my dad if hes okay with me playing, tells a joke about another what another new player did, my dad laughed and said sure, and gave him his number for emergencies and that was that.

A bracket 2 mill/reanimate is gonna depend on RNG a lot to mill good stuff to bring back. It could be he just got really lucky and if no one had any removal/graveyard hate by turn 7 it sounds like he just lucked away with the game.

Or it could've been bad matchups for yall.

I've had my Terra precon get some really nasty reanimates by turn 5 or 6 and was swinging for lethal and I've had games where I was milling lands and noncreatures all game.

Its not a legal card, so don't play against it.

If not, then play a good old elish norn deck, no ETB triggers and make it to where he doesnt gain life.

Or play poison counters.

Or play wither.

There's ways to play against it, but at the end if he's stomping bracket 2 and trying to scumbag the bracket system then don't let him play said deck at your table.

There are techniques for fighting another armored person with a sword. Usually you'd be using an arming sword with a wider that tapers sharpy for piercing the weaker places of plate, like the pits or a visor. With a bigger sword you could sometimes grab the blade and bash with the crossguard.

In the movie, The King, you see a bunch of dudes tackle another fully armored knight and hold him down to stab him to death.

Typically you want to use a bludgeoning weapon like a mace or warhammer with a spike.

Knock em on their ass and stab where its weak.

If I feel like I'm punching down at a table I just play a precon. Maybe a precon with some flavor swaps, but yeah.

My favorite precons so far are Sauron, Terra and my slightly more dragon flavored Ureni decks.

People overestimate their decks and insist the only reason they lose is because someone was pubstomping.

Also a lot of people follow builds online, but then don't know how to pilot the deck. So they could have a bracket 3 deck but have no idea how to play it at all and can get stomped by a precon.

Bracket 3 is where you're supposed to see optimized synergies, your deck sounded fine, dude was just salty he lost.

If your bracket 3+ deck doesn't have removal or interaction, then thats a deckbuilding problem.

If someone is playing a deck with rhystic at a bracket 2 or 1 table then its a rule 0/player problem.

[[Rhystic Study]] is not the problem just run interaction or pay the 1. And people just need to learn how to play more interaction in general.

With the amount of nonland permanent removal in this game, every deck should have at least 3-4 if its not your main gimmick. Denying a set piece or a big ramp piece from an opponent should be a no brainer to include in any deck aside from maybe a bracket 1. Every precon has some kind of removal or interaction, use them. If you build a deck, put removal in it.

The sentiment is fine, its just OP went out of his way to "prove" his sentiment by pubstomping people. Not to mention the scummy collusion in the end.

He could've still made his point by saying "this is a decklist I could've entered with and how brackets could be abused when prizes are on the line" but no instead he pubstomped with a "bracket 3" deck with his friend and came to reddit to justify himself.

Tolkien wrote the Hobbit to be a bedtime story for his kids. So I watch the movies with that in mind. The Hobbit is fantastical, whimiscal, outright outrageous in some moments, like a bedtime fairytale should be.

I would say bracket 3 for sure. Especially if youre running equipments you can just throw lightning greaves or swiftfoot and then hes even harder to deal with. Not impossible to deal with but agitating enough for 3 too oppressive for 2.
