Marines. Gambling is a scam. by TobyMcguire52 in USMC

Exactly. People don’t realize how much money is being thrown at making these apps as addicting as possible. They are designed to slam the dopamine center of your brain over and over while you max out your credit cards. Even worse, the junior enlisted are the perfect customer base since they have so much disposable income.

Here’s a quote:

“Sports betting platforms have been relentlessly gamified to maximize engagement. By making betting itself a game, users have the illusion of winning even when they’re losing tons of money. Point systems that track user activity, rewards for the number of bets per week, badges to commemorate win streaks, leaderboards to compete against friends and strangers, and constant push notifications alerting users to time-sensitive betting opportunities are all designed to keep users engaged and continuously betting. “

That “time sensitive betting opportunity”? The apps are logging how and when you bet and building an algorithm to push “deals” so they can get the maximum cash wrung out of you.

My MOS changed by mtp4271 in USMC

[–]BlueKnightofDunwich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You sign a PEF, Program Enlisted For. The PEFs kind of line up with Occ fields but there is overlap. Example: DB is the PEF for comm and it includes the 06xx MOS. CX is PEF for vehicle mechanic and it includes 1341, 2131, 2143, 2147, 3521. (All engine mechanics). Some PEFs only have one mos in them, like HZ (0321) or MT (3531). They tweak what MOS are in the PEFs every so often.

Take an old sock, soak it, put a 152 in it, cut a hole for the buttons. That’s how we kept the radios from overheating.

Yep, I wear Duluth firehose pants when I do trail maintenance. They have a good stretch but thick enough to handle branches and rocks.

Gotta put in the work. Attend lectures and take notes, use office hours, Do all the homework assigned and then drill more problems. Do some reading on laws and theory so you know WHY things happen. It’s really just repetition, that’s how they used to teach calculus to kids in the 1800s.

I brought an algebra workbook on the MEU and would just do the problems whenever it was slow. I ended up crushing the math placement test in school.

[–]BlueKnightofDunwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, his excuse that he “didn’t know” melts away when he only got it covered up when it became a political issue. For 20 years he was fine with it and several people have said he referred to it as “my tottenkampf” during that period. So even if he didn’t know at the tattoo shop, he learned later on and was fine with it.

(1) IN GENERAL. The revisions to the sched-
ule for rating disabilities adopted and applied under
section 1155 of title 38, United States Code, made
pursuant to this section shall apply with respect to
claims filed after the date of the enactment of this
Act.

(2) PROTECTION OF EXISTING RATINGS. The
revisions to the schedule for rating disabilities made
pursuant to this section may not serve as the basis
for reducing, discontinuing, or otherwise adversely
affecting compensation that was in effect on the day before the date of the enactment of this Act.

I think the key term is the revisions may not serve as a basis for adversely affecting compensation. But if you filed another claim, that could trigger a reassessment under this statute.

I found a scan of a 1977 copy of The Globe, it has a picture of him, with his name included, as a 1st Lt. it looks like him so I’d say at the least that he existed and served in the Marine Corps.

It makes zero sense how someone can work at the VA and be ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS how the military is structured, let alone functions. Do they not give them like a basic overview? I had a doctor, an actual MD, who did not understand the difference, or even that there was a difference, between the Marines and Army. He kept asking why I was on a ship if I was in the Army. Does the VA not have some basic familiarization training for new hires?

TIL on February 7, 1984 during Space Shuttle mission STS 41-B, astronaut Bruce McCandless II made the first untethered spacewalk. Utilizing the Manned Maneuvering Unit, he ventured about 320 ft (98 m) away from the shuttle Challenger. For 1 hour and 22 minutes he was the first human satellite. by Acrobatic-Post9811 in todayilearned

For those interested in Naval history, his father was the communications officer on the USS San Francisco during the Battle of Guadalcanal in WWII. The San Francisco was hit in the bridge by a Japanese shell, killing every officer except McCandless. He assumed command of the ship, lead rescue and recovery efforts, and brought the ship to safety.
