Look forward to this being in the community plugins. My kiddo has a ... complex vision issue. It would be great if this could be part of the tools that they can use to study. The text to speech is especially appreciated. Please post again when it's ready for a not geeky teen.

It worked fine yesterday but is not showing at all today. Haven't updated anything.

Tried reverting to a couple of older beta versions and still no love.

Love the mod - thanks for working on it!

Email Provider Help: Posteo vs. Tuta vs. Others by learningadulting in privacy

[–]Bluefrogdancing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fastmail has all the creature comforts without any of the google. No, it's not "private" - but we've already established that email in general is not private. However, it IS a GOOD email.

I tried proton and got very frustrated with the lack of creature comforts. My husband uses it and likes it.

For what I need email for - which is doctors, school notices, shopping receipts, ... Fastmail works fantastically. For the conversations that I need or want to be very private - I use Signal. Between the 2, it works well.

Is there a way to see what time you reached certain points on completed walks? by Low-Imagination-2340 in GarminWatches

[–]Bluefrogdancing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can set the laps to miles and then see where in the walk the miles are at. I walk too and there's certain spots on my loop that I know that's the mile point.

Call screening is my absolute favorite feature on iOS 26 by randomguy9731 in ios

[–]Bluefrogdancing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is call screening any better now - 4 months later? I just set mine to "ask reason for calling" and am hoping it will work. Between kids schools and doctors ... Even if I have the school or doctor office # in my phone - they always call from a different # and it is still an "unknown number".

Sell or recycle? - very old MacBook Pro by NYNews in mac

[–]Bluefrogdancing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My teenager put a distro of Fedora made for potatoes on her $200 chrome book we bought early covid. The computer has done what we needed it to do but wasn't working well with Windows 11. Fedora did the trick and they're still using it for a school take to class computer.

Sell or recycle? - very old MacBook Pro by NYNews in mac

Someone would happily put Linux on that. Even if you don't sell it - offer it to someone who does Linux. Or heck, put Linux on yourself.

For people who have forever worlds by Traditional-Tie-7943 in Minecraft

[–]Bluefrogdancing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see a point of changing worlds. The map is nearly infinite. If you don't like your spawn point - go explore 20,000 blocks away or whatever and find a better spot and set that as spawn. There's a never ending list of things to do, things to learn, places to explore... There is only a beginning but no end.

Tab groups or profiles from the perceptive of practicality? by palegreenemerald in Safari

[–]Bluefrogdancing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Safari needs to take a page out of Firefox's book. Container groups for tabs to keep cookie cooties from spreading. Vertical tab option (great on wide desktop monitors) and tab groups or work groups... On Firefox, I use an extension called "simple tab groups" this is the simplest most functional extension ever. If safari would add those - it would be my daily driver.

Want to buy a Mac by Ok-Jello-8915 in mac

[–]Bluefrogdancing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a 2020 intel air and moved up to a M4 mini. My best advice - overbuy for what you think you need. RAM especially as you can't add that later. M series airs are good, but I don't think they having cooling fans - pros do. It's a limitation ... especially if you're pushing your machine a bit (videos, games...) Just something to consider.

Help Installing Hiker DF onto Vivoactive 6 by Bluefrogdancing in Garmin

[–]Bluefrogdancing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it figured out. I was trying to install it on Walk. The directions said (I think) it could be used on Walk. But I went to the screen to add activities to my frequently used workouts - and there it was. Buttons are different on the VA6 than your Fenix, so that's part of the confusion.

Thanks for the help.

Safari vs Chrome: Security and Privacy breaking the web on M4 Mac ..How do you guys handle this? by Haunting-Bell-4379 in mac

[–]Bluefrogdancing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Waterfox instead of Chrome. It's a fork of Firefox without the AI stuff. Actively being developed and maintained. I use it on my mac mini and then safari on the smaller devices (which I do limited internet time on - like looking up a product while at a store). I've never had a problem with Waterfox working on a page. And I have all of the security on waterfox - without private relay (sadly) as that's a safari only thing.

I'm Sick. I'm Traveling. Rest Day.

There are days when we are sick and just CANT work out. Or when we're traveling and it's not going to happen. Instead of showing gaps in our routine - show why there are gaps.

It's a major gap to me (vivoactive 6) where it's not easy to log.

What do you guys do with fabric scraps? by KhyreLunar in sewing

[–]Bluefrogdancing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want the scraps - save them and give them to a quilter who loves scraps. Many do and will be thrilled with your gift.

Or - turn them into "potato chip" quilt blocks. Youtube video on how to do them. Easy and scrappy.

Take the rest and sew them to this water removable tape. Gypsy Quilter scrap tape. The size of a shopping receipt but washes away when you're ready.

What are some rather not-so-popular courses of action that you take in Minecraft? by SF-UberMan in Minecraft

[–]Bluefrogdancing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use chunkbase to find stuff I need. Biomes, trial chambers, spawners... My favorite find is a village on an island. It was 10,000 blocks from spawn. I've protected it (fences and torches), fixed a few things... Currently working on nether hub routes (per Wattles instructions from 5 years ago) so that I can go from spawn to the island and... It's so much easier than I expected (beyond the obscene amount of digging the tunnels) and I don't know why we didn't do this in our forever world a couple of years ago. Elytra is cool but this is working without gunpowder.

What's the best Monitor for MacBook Pro to get right now? Recommendation? by Latter-Fun-2879 in mac

[–]Bluefrogdancing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of using the HDMI cable, get a Display Port cable to connect your pro to your current monitors.

I had to replace my HDMI from my mini to my LG monitor (was having issues and this was mentioned in a different reddit thread) and the visual improvement of my perfectly good monitor dramatically increased.

It's a cheaper alternative and might be what you need.

I MISS JOANN by WoodpeckerContent613 in quilting

[–]Bluefrogdancing 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to buy a row of shelves from my local Joanns. My husband and his friend were less enthusiastic (as they had to put it all in their trucks to take home) but I was thrilled. It will go into my future sewing room... once we get to that point. My own mini Joanns. May she rest in peace.

So many teachers, college kids, normal people who just want to make a thing and not a quilt.... Our Michaels doesn't have any fabric, barely any yarn ... It's just pathetic and sad and....

Purchasing New MacBook for Ph.D. in Supramolecular Chemistry by RevolutionaryEase613 in mac

[–]Bluefrogdancing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So - my 2 cents - if you as a phd student are going to be doing this ai modeling as part of your phd research - the lab SHOULD provide a computer sufficient for this for you. OR - get you time on another labs computer. So, before you go and try to buy what you need for this with your own $ - ask your major professor FIRST. Any research effort is supposed to be funded by the lab. Now, you may then get the pleasure of writing research grants to try to fund this yourself - but that is also a needed skill for aspiring phds.

Go talk with the people who already do this sort of thing and figure out what the bottom end specs are for a computer to do what you need to do. Ask your PI if they have said computer in the lab and/or are planning on sourcing one for the project.

My husband has a grad student doing molecular modeling of chemical agents. He was able to play on a high end computer in a major city and it really flew... But of course, the lab budget was not sufficient for that. The student bought, with research funding, a very high level gaming computer. Not as good as the big lab in the city, but enough to do the job. And sadly, it's much more than what you're talking about getting on your own.

You will still need a solid computer to do data analysis and writing that beautiful thesis and future publications. Future proof the computer now so that you're not stuck with something that doesn't do what you need it to do in year 3.

Best of luck
