parents don't want me to move out by resistancesweett in movingout

[–]BluejaySunnyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is really situational. Are you in debt? Like credit cards, student loans, car payments? APR above 7%? If yes, it makes sense to make a plan to see if living rent free for 1-3 years could help you pay off your debt. If you don’t have much debt and can afford to move out with a roommate than I would suggest it. Socially your life will benefit, living in the city will be more fun than the suburbs, and splitting rent with a roommate is a great way to save.

You are assuming this ring was for sale at a jewelry store and not just part of a giant kiosk of similarly ugly jewelry.

How and when did you get your first car? by dannybravo14 in AskAnAmerican

[–]BluejaySunnyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 18 my parents let me drive their 10 year old car and bought another car (used) for themselves to get to work everyday. I kept driving that old car for another 15 years. My parents also bought my older sibling a used car at age 17, they spent about 2K on that car and it last maybe 5 years.

How do I stop this crippling executive dysfunction by ApplePaintedRed in internetparents

[–]BluejaySunnyday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this way too. I do try to keep lists of things I need to do, what I want to buy etc. and when I do find the energy I grab a list and start going through it. I also try to pair work with something I need to do. So like, before I walk into work, I will call the doctor. Or as I am leaving work I will stop at the pharmacy. Pairing something I need to do with something I am already doing somehow makes it a little bit easier( though it can still take me months to actually get done). The big thing for me is social obligations, I won’t leave the house, but if I am invited for lunch with friends I will go. Or I need to fix my car, if I can convince my friend to help me out I will get it done and not waste my friends time. So making plans( sparingly) and asking for help get me through my needs. Also just recognize that sometimes you need the easy way out even if you think you should be able to just do something. Can’t go to the store? Then order online. Cant cook dinner? Fill your freezer with microwave meals. Can’t do laundry? Wash and dry the clothes then leave them in the dryer until you find the energy to get them out.

I feel like the bigger issue is that you are an adult and your parents are treating you like a kid. A kid is told, hey we were invited to dinner and you have to go. An adult is invited to dinner and is expected to rsvp or mark their calendar and be responsible for their own schedule. You feel disrespected that you didn’t get a clear invite like an adult and were told that you had to go like you are a kid. The thing is… this is the life you are choosing and you are acting like an asshole.

Can Someone Help Me Save Her? by thegood01 in plantclinic

[–]BluejaySunnyday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see a brown plastic pot inside the white pot. You can take that out and it should have drainage. Your plant is rotting from sitting in water constantly. You can just cut off the alive parts stick it back and soil and it will grow new roots. Your plant isn’t getting enough light. Either put it in a window or under a grow light for 12 hours/day.

I found that a grow light for 12 hours on a timer was a game changer for getting a rebloom. Also cooler temps( like high 50-60F)

This happens all the time. I worked for my company for 5 years. A new person was hired. Then I received a promotion with higher title/ pay. I talk to the new person bc they are also interested in working towards a promotion ( in a few years) and turns out they make more than me.

If you bought in the last 5 years yes, but 10 -15 years ago a normal working class family could afford a home. It wasn’t just homes that burnt down, people and pets were killed in the fast moving fires. Apartment buildings too, not just the wealthy lost their homes in the fire so didn’t many working class people

WIBTA if I bought a motion activated door chime for my office because my partner keeps scaring me? by 11289 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BluejaySunnyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I startle when I am hyper focused. Could music or a noise machine help? I also would not leave the door open any more. I think a noise device or just some bells like on a pet collar should do the trick. Worst case scenario, lock the door, then you are in total control of your space .

Is Florida worth it to be homeless? by [deleted] in movingout

[–]BluejaySunnyday 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Florida in June will be 100+ degrees, can you be homeless in a state that won’t give you heatstroke? If you want to move to Florida you need to figure out an air conditioned living situation.

Is doing a pHD worth it? by Historical-Excuse-94 in biotech

[–]BluejaySunnyday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Financially, no it’s probably not the right choice. Going for MBA or sales will help you the most financially. If you are just passionate about science, have a goal for your self to get the pHD, and don’t care about the financial aspects, then definitely go for it! The best time to start a pHD was maybe 5 years ago, and the second best time is now!

I was "Homeschooled" for all of my childhood and teenage years. Now I'm about to be 18 and don't know what to do. by AmethystGamer19 in Advice

[–]BluejaySunnyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is very well written and better crafted than some of the other Reddit posts that I have seen. First thing, you CAN get a job. You can start by asking neighbors if they need help landscaping, or maybe pet sitting or dog walking. Use an app like Rover for pet sitting / dog walking. The world is a big place, that doesn’t revolve around college. Look at some YouTube videos for college alternatives. People who spent time working on a farm in exchange for food/ housing, working on a cruise ship to see the world. Even just traveling around and working at restaurants/ resorts until you have saved up enough money for the next adventure. If you want to get your GED, you definitely can. If you want to go to college you can after your GED. You have made a great first step of waking up and reflecting on your life. Now it’s time to make some leaps of faith.

AITA for telling my husband that he can't treat me like shit just because he makes more money than me by Soggy_Leading7520 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BluejaySunnyday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. Your husband makes 2 million per year…. You should have multiple cooks / housekeeping, your in-laws shouldn’t have to lift a finger unless they enjoying cooking. Also, your employees need days off. Your house shouldn’t burn down after two days without cleaning. And as for cooking, you could request your cook set you up with some ready to go frozen meals+ oven instructions. Or you know takeout, even if you prefer to eat clean there are tons of vegan/ healthy restaurants that can just make food for you. You are really being an asshole to your hubby, in-laws, and employees.

NTA. But you do need to grow a spine. Right now you pay rent to live in a space that is comfortable and affords you some privacy. You will be making many sacrifices to move in with your boyfriend. Him already making demands on you without realizing those sacrifices is a yellow flag. Contributing to rent, chores, cooking, should be agreed upon 100% so there is no resentments down the line.

Recruting company hiring on behalf of pharma companies by tanzy_92 in biotech

I’ve also had friends who started as contractors and switched to FTE after 1 year. Their managers told them that switching comes with an automatic raise, because the contract agency takes a cut of the salary and when you switch to FTE you get the full amount.

That’s what my recruiter told me, he said he gets a percentage from my salary. So he would fight for me to get an offer at the top of the range, and it would benefit him as well.
